That can't be true for people who got conf emails shortly after preorders opened
It may very well be true.
Problem is there is no way of knowing for certain until the dates pass. Sprint reps clearly have no real idea.
If you're right it would seem Sprint has one script that it's reading to callers. This reinforces our opinions that Sprint is increasingly getting poorer at customer communication. However the core problem may be because Apple has them backed up into a corner.
I posed the theory that Apple was directing the majority of shipments to its own stores right after launch due to a lawsuit that was filed shortly after preorders. In that lawsuit it claimed that existing IUP customer orders were being deferred to new IUP customers. Merit aside, it seemed that on launch Apple made sure to have units available to IUP customers, and as of now to walking, where carriers have had to push orders back.
I'm certain the agreements with carriers limit any exposure Apple has to action. Carriers most likely agreed to something that allowed Apple to show preference to its stores. Of course this makes sense on Apples part and who would blame them?
We are left to Apples mercy. You have a better chance of walking into an Apple Store and getting a device now than seeing your preorder arrive within the current windows.
Sprints accountability lies within being transparent and forthcoming concerning orders. We get conflicting information that could be avoided by being upfront. Sure some customers would be upset. Let's be honest though, for the most part not getting our devices on time is a first world problem.
I submit this as my opinion. It's all speculation. There could be a supply chain issue, quality issue, or something similar. That wouldn't explain why Sprint seems to be left out. After all we are seeing some more units arriving in Apple Stores and seeing AT&T orders moving today. Take it all as you will.
