Those are not in any way the same as removing the headphone port. Floppy disk and CD/DVD drives were taken out because people had moved to USB sticks and internet based file sharing and because both of those things took up HUGE amounts of space in laptops.

The same cannot be said for the headphone port.
.

Have you heard of wireless BT headphones? Some people been using them for years. I personally rarely use the wired one, but I do admit though that lot of people still use the wired ones. Wired headphones are going to be obsolete, not a matter of if but a matter of when.

Lots of people on this forum are ecstatic about the idea of removing the headphone jack, which baffles me. "Please take away features! We want less features!" I also read confessions of people who "don't want to carry ports around" in Macbooks.

I don't get it either. I understand when there's something inherently better or it's become physically impossible but that's not usually the case. I don't think it's really the case with the headphone jack either. It's such a simple little port that is used on literally everything, if there was something way better I'd get it. But as it is right now Bluetooth isn't really as convenient The only time I really felt ready for the exclusion of something was the disc drive on the laptops. I hadn't used mine in so long before it that it didn't even phase me when I got an Air and it didn't have one. I may have been outside of the norm on that one though. The people who don't want to carry ports around don't make any sense to me at all. But to each his/her own I suppose.

Just back from a London City Break. Noted that most Tube travellers sat there on their iPhones which definitely made up the highest percentage. I couldn't tell which vintage due to the IPhone's tired old design and lack of change as we know but what amazed me was how people will buy stuff by name and brand alone and give little thought as to why. Encouraging news for Apple then who are cleverly keeping things static and relying on familiarity than practicality and innovation. It's been working so far. Do what you want, Apple. They'll ask for another anyway when their contracts run out. Ports. Camera. Features. Who really cares. Some people might say my life is in a rut. But I'm quite happy with what I've got. People might say that I should strive for more.
But I'm so happy I can't see the point. I'm Going Underground (on the Tube) and using me old style SE forevermore. But I want nothing this society's got. I'm going (on the) Underground (going underground)
Well, let the brass bands play and feet start to pound ... Wait a minute. That sounds like a good idea for a song yes ...

We? You got a mouse in your pocket or what?

All these "it's ugly" comments crack me up..... please someone show me a new design that a lot of people didn't chime in with the same comment.
Don't like it don't buy it.... VERY easy solution to all of the whiners non problem.

Ill be upgrading to this phone same as every year a new device is produced. I just hope the larger phone comes with a TON of stuff the smaller version doesn't so I can come bask in the tears of all the people that will cry about that!
Me and my ego of course.

Also try reading my post more carefully next time: I didn't say anything about the iPhone 7 being ugly or not. Purely the release doesn't seem all that interesting so far compared with Apple's current offerings. Those are two very different things.

Be careful not to drown in those tears.

I think the iPhone 7 will be like all the other iPhone number models, a redesign with a few new features. I'm looking forward to the iPhone 7 Plus, I currently have the 6 Plus and I love it but I'm looking forward to an upgrade.

Mac Otakara's report focuses on the potential inclusion of two new sensors at the top of the device, the purpose of which remains unclear.

That's for sensing that further advances besides spec upgrades is all we can expect.
And, by now the last pygmy has a smartphone, so that market is done!

Well, I just had an interesting thought. What if they use the smart connector as an interface with a battery case? Now, they can create a very thin case with a battery inside of it WITHOUT the long protrusion at the bottom.

There has to be other idea for the Smart Connector than a Smart Keyboard.

Maybe they are designing a cool and functional case. But its not going to have a keyboard.

I would have to assume it would be for connecting to a battery case. That way, the case doesn't have to extend way down to plug into the lightening port.

I'm due for an upgrade around the time this will be out and I'm really thinking of jumping over to a Samsung S7 or see what Nexus is up to, apple does'nt seem to be putting any effort in upgrading the OS and IOS is getting stale, plus after owning a Galaxy Tab S2, and seeing how Android has evolved and the things you can do with access to the filesystem, I think its time to explore other options

Go for it. And report your results to us.

What were you expecting? For people to beg you to not leave iPhone? For every iPhone users who switches to Android there are 5 switching from Android to iPhone.

This thread is so predictable:

1. Bunch of dudes saying Apple is losing its edge.
2. Bunch of dudes saying they will switch to the latest and greatest Android.
3. Apple breaks iPhone records.
4. Repeat

Butthurt response.

This has been going on for years, Apple announce the new iPhone, people say it wasn't good enough then it launches people buy it and love it, Samsung ends up copying the tech and then the whole thing starts again.

2 years ago when the iPhone 6 was being leaked, everyone liked the overall design but hated the antennae bands. Folks whined and wanted them removed. Fast forward to now with Apple giving in to the folks 2 years ago and we get comments like yours. Apple can't win.

True story.
Those lines should never have been there like that in the first place. Now that we know they do have a better option, even if these leaks are fake, they should have thought it through and done this two years ago. You can't make this kind of incremental improvement in style and consider it an upgrade. That should have been envisioned and implemented from the beginning. Especially when they've actually had since iPhone 5 to figure out how to get rid of the horizontal line cutting across the back of the device and making a bit of a choppy look to the back.

Just an observation I like the iphone but it seems that most updates to things that make a difference are happening there

Butthurt response.

No. Truthful response.

I've seen this same cycle the last 5 years.

Every year we see leaks of the new iPhone and we hear the whole peanut gallery saying how it would be a total flop.
Then 6 months later Apple reports record breaking sales. Rinse, Repeat. Same thing. Every year.

And we will see the same thing with iPhone7. another record breaking result.

So...are going to dump the blah screen on the smaller model and go full 1080P?

Design isn't bad but it's certainly innocuous at best.

I just recently consolidated again around Apple after a few years with android so I'm not looking to jump ship, but overall I think the iPhone 6 design is boring and stale and the 7 is more of the same.

I would not be surprised if we see keyboard attachments.

The future is clear.
Smartphones will replace laptops.
In 3 years the CPU power in phones will be enough to run 90% of the applications run on laptops.
The big problem is input.

Throw in a physical keyboard and that problem is solved.

Screens are too small to type on, the galaxy Note series is positioned to be a more productive smart phone and that comes with a stylus/pen.

I'm talking about a physical keyboard attached to an iPhone using the smart connector.

The galaxy Note pen is piss poor compared to the Apple pencil.

But the screen is still too small to do any real work. And the Galaxy stylus is equal in functionality to the Apple Pencil, though I think the Pencil has more pressure levels.

I'm down with the 256GB storage though. That's what I'm hoping for.

Man, I love part leaks. Although out of all the new designs, this one seems to be the one I'm most enthusiastic about. Wonder what they have up their sleeve.
