Probably skip this one, 6S Plus is still serving me fine. Only reason I upgraded to that was 2gb ram. Unless iOS10 utterly destroys it in a software update I'll hang on for a year.

Also, I agree with those above about exasperation at people who buy based on looks. Made all the more amusing by the majority who then slap it in a hideous case. Performance and features are everything to me, largely why I usually upgrade every couple of years, sometimes longer. Only reason I went 6 Plus to 6S Plus was because the former performed like garbage for me. It has swayed my thinking that the S years are the better purchase, although that cycle appears to be changing this time clearly.

They're saving their big guns for next year.

Think about it...
  • Huge anniversary.
  • Brand new Apple headquarters for a huge brand new launch.
  • Completely new design of the iPhone (8).

I dont think there was anything special on the iPod anniversary. What if we just get a 7S in that same dated look lol

I still, to this day, believe Apple leak out information at launch day approaches to kill any unrealistic expectations about a product.
I've seen it happen many times now over the years, and it's just all too much to be a coincidence.

Honestly I also do fully understand why it would make good business sense to officially leak things.

Think about it for a moment. If you are going to get up on stage, in front of the worlds press, and show off your latest and greatest product. The very last thing you are a company, or person on stage would ever want is for everyone in the room to be disappointed, as one or two unrealistic expectations become so strong that, almost everyone there was expecting "A" and you could only deliver "B"

Sure, silly things, like colours not showing up, or perhaps RAM not being increased would not be a worry, but anything major that's all in the media about it's coming NOW, you would not wish to disappoint on.

So, the most obvious thing is, and this is what happens almost every year.
There ARE some great expectations about a product, and they grow and change over the year, a few BIG ones stick, and stay there till we start getting close to launch day.

Then just a few weeks away, some rumour sites/posts start to kill things off, and we end up pretty much expecting what ends up being shown.

As I say, it makes sense. If anything you want to show MORE than is being expected.
It will interesting to watch over the next few weeks if any of the current expectations mysteriously get killed off prior to launch day.

What do we have so far?

Colours Blue/Black (not that important to worry about killing rumours)
RAM starting at 32GB ? 32/64/128 ?
Dual Camera's (been talked about for almost the whole years now)
Headphone Jack vanishing, everyone is expecting it.
A speaker on the top for stereo in landscape?
Antenna Bands?
RAM starting at 32GB? Damn, that's a lot of RAM. The Mac Pros need to catch up!

I'm thinking there won't be much need for a 4"/SE version to go along with the iPhone 8. If the rumors are true, the bezels will shrink so much that the 4.7" screen won't be in a much larger phone than the current SE.
I willing to bet next year we will see a redesigned 4" phone to go with the two other ones. I think that's why we're not getting any new designs this year. They all get redesigned next year

Yeah maybe they will launch some another accessories or watch 2 and i haven't even seen the watch 1 till date (buying is far away for me) not every one who buy iPhone buy watch or other accessories, for then this is going to be booring

Ah fair enough. :)

Releases stop gap phone, charges hefty price. #Apple2016

It's odd because if Apple didn't release an iPhone, but kept the 6S on for twice as long or until next summer or something, there would be people here saying 'as a shareholder I feel Apple should have released something! Even if it was just a spec bump on the 6S...'

Is this a "leak" or a "prediction."

Your essay assignment for today is to explain the difference in 50 words or less.

Dude it's MR, they will take anything they can get. Even if someone farted, and it sounded like a release date, it'll be written.

I know most are dissapointed with this iPhone, but if the camera is good, I mean really, really good, right at the top of the Smartphone market, then I'd view this as the most significant upgrade in generations.

When I upgraded from a 4S to a 6 plus I was rather surprised at how little improvement there was in image quality. Remember, at one point the iPhone was the leader in smartphone image quality aside from a few bulky niche smartphones built around cameras. If they can retake the lead then this could be worth an upgrade.

Conversely, if the camera once again is middling in image quality, I'll be using my 6 Plus for at least another few years.

Of course I realize for most people the bigger issue will be the loss of a headphone jack. I can't listen to music due to an iatrogenic hearing problem, but back when I could, a lack of an audio jack would have been a dealbreaker. So even if the camera leads the field in image quality, I expect this iPhone to sell relatively poorly. Unfortunately if there is a management change at Apple, it will likely be the wrong changes. At companies the size and profitability of Apple, the executives who are responsible are almost never held accountable short of a cataclysmic catastrophe. Ive, who I'd bet is responsible for the loss of the audio jack, isn't going anywhere until he retires or dies.

That makes sense. Apple should have a consistent line of three different sized phones with the same form factor and somewhat comparable specs (though the smallest phone can be a little slower and have slightly worse camera). But maybe they keep the SE around and just continually push down its price point. The powerful CPU in the SE means that it will be able to handle iOS upgrades for years and years. So Apple can still sell that phone in 2018 and be able to support it for a few years.

sigh, September 2017 is so far away. Maybe I will check out the next Galaxy Note 7 in the meantime. I need a new toy and the next iPhone certainly aint it :D
I am with you, although I am happy to just not get a new phone this year. Will be nice using an iphone for two years for the first time ever.

Really? We were just looking at photos of my son from when he was born taken on a 4s and a 5 and the image quality is much worse, particauly viewed on a large HD+ screen. IMO the difference between 6 and 6s is nominal, but I can certainly see the difference between a 4s and a 6.

That said, a phenomenal camera would tempt me, but likely only tempt, unless this camera is somehow the new standard in smartphone photography. My only real current gripe is low light photos.

I disagree on lower specs on the smaller one. If I'm going to carry a camera on my pocket, I want the best one. I don't want to have to lug a honking phone to take great pictures. It would have to have all the specs of the bigger ones. The best camera is the one on you, and if I'm hiking or sight seeing I'm going to carry the smallest one and I don't want any sacrifices.

Just sayin....

NO HEADPHONE JACK?!? Are you kidding me? This is the death of Apple. I will now switch to Samsung. Blah blah blah...

Please. The difference from a 4S to a 6 Plus is substantial. I checked my old pictures of my kids taken on a 4S and compared them to last year on my 6 Plus and the 6 Plus is obviously better. I'm quite confused how you could say there was "little improvement". And the video is waaaay better.

iPhone 7 and 7 Plus Launch Predicted to Be Weak on September 12th

Only thing that will be weak on Sept 12th will be all the negative comments of people so desperately trying to find something to complain about, stating this is the end of Apple or how they're going to switch to Android because Apple no longer innovates.

The nerds will be raging on Sept 12 and there will be much gnashing of teeth.

Understood. But was it necessary to make your post 28 bolded font?
[doublepost=1469296656][/doublepost]
Yeah but there will be the Apple Watch 2 at the same event, so it won't be too bad.

Their is no confirmation on the Apple Watch 2 for the September Key Note. As a matter of opinion, the leaks/rumors have been minimal and with Watch OS3, the Apple Watch is considered to be a whole new Watch per say. I would like to see a Watch release as well, but I don't believe it's likely.

I agree that would be nice. But I'm pretty sure the best camera is not going to be available on the smallest phone as long as the small phone serves as a budget or cheaper entry to iOS. Now I would support Apple making a true flagship small phone and just sell it at a high price. But I think the SE where the phone's specs are good but not the best is what we will get. It is kind of like the iMac where you can't get a great GPU in the 21" version (I think you now can't get any dedicated GPU in the smaller version). You have to buy the 27" version and then max it out.

I'm going to say it again. I still can not believe the number of people that buy the iPhone for the way it looks. I buy it for what it does. I suggest to those that are into the looks of a phone switch to Android. The OS sucks, but you will have lots of different phones to choose from to make your life better.
I’m going to say it again. I still can not believe the number of people that don’t get it. We buy what suits us and a number of criteria are important. We are humans and apart from listening to the radio do almost everything by sight in conjunction with one or more of the other senses. That make sense now?
