Is this the $9 DAC by Apple? Or do you mean there is an internal DAC that the lighting uses?

Screen_Shot_2016-09-07_at_4.09.15_PM.0.png

That's the one. For $9 you get a Lightning to 3.5mm adaptor that also houses its own DAC and an amplifier circuit to drive your headphones.

Apple knows this is going to be a shock to some people, so by including one free adaptor with your iPhone and selling them for the bargain basement price of $9 they are going to minimize the impact this will have on people moving forward.

I mean, when has Apple ever sold an adaptor for under $30 or so?

Wow, Apple wasn't kidding when they said demand would outstrip supply. I have to drive 40 miles and out of state to pick up my jet black iPhone even though there are like 3 flagship stores by me in NYC.

When hasn't demand outstripped supply?

Verizon, iPhone 7, all colors still available by the 16th other than Jet Black.

Same for most of the AT&T colors.

Finally (I think) managed to get an order through T-Mobile, and I've gotta say, while I love their plans, features, and promotions ($400 trade-in value for an iPhone 5 and free 24-month financing? sign me up!), man is their ordering system hosed.

The website all last night (at least for trying to order an upgrade) was flat-out broken, as in you literally couldn't place an upgrade pre-order for an existing line/phone.

Calling in resulted in an >hour wait (at least they have a callback system), only to have the (remarkably cheerful) phone rep tell me that their system for processing the generous trade-in offer was down so he'd have to note what I wanted and call me back at 8am.

No call back by noon, so I eventually called in again to be told they had no idea why I didn't get called back, or for that matter whether waiting up until 1:30am had done me any good at reserving a slot instead of just going to bed and calling in the next day (hours earlier, in fact, since I wouldn't have been assuming I'd get a callback). But at least I got to place the order and sign up for the trade-in.

At which point I got a confirmation email telling me my trade-in 5s is worth $58, and the online system still doesn't show the pre-order. I assume that I will in fact get the full discount I was promised when I eventually send the old phone in, and that I do in fact have a 7 reserved now, but their system certainly isn't telling me that.

Oh, and the kicker is now their trade-in page (which wasn't functioning at all last night) is claiming that I could have just pre-ordered one and then asked for the trade-in offer after the fact.

In the long run it was only a couple of wasted hours and it doesn't really matter, but it's not like the rush should have come as a surprise to them, and it's pretty bad when your online system buckles that badly under pressure. It's always been kinda janky (it kept claiming I had a completely different model phone no matter how many times I corrected it and despite the fact that I bought it from them), but if I was in charge of the department I'd quit in shame.

Everybody chill. You will not have to wait until November for your phone. At latest, you will get it late September/early October. They pulled this same crap when I ordered my iPhone 6 Plus a couple years ago, and it shipped long before their estimated shipping date. Apple doesn't want to over-promise and under-deliver, so they are taking the opposite extreme.

After reading some of the horror stories with IUP, Im glad I got stuck with ATT next. I was going to do the IUP, but after logging in my card info, it says you can't use a debit/credit card......WTH? So I can't use a card that I know will be paid every month? So , basically, you have to charge an interest free loan, and make sure you make the full payment every month, seems like an unnecessary extra step. Anyway, I chose the ATT next, was able to put a down payment on it, and be ready to upgrade in time for the iPhone 8

That's odd, I just ordered a silver 7 128gb via t-mobile's website, scheduled for delivery 9/16. And I wasn't even planning to upgrade this cycle.

**** that was one of the places I wanted to go when stores near me disappeared.

I mean **** the store was down for me for the first 6 mins or so and in that time everything else in CT sold out.

Yeah, grand central station, which is not far from me, was available for about 2 seconds before it went away. After that CT was my only option. If you wanted jet black 128, sorry!

Ha, very true. But I feel like this year they sold out a lot faster than the past couple of years.

Pretty much it's just the 7 plus jet black version that is selling really well. All others not so much. Many can still be had 9/16-9/20

Maybe less initial inventory?

This is so stupid - i don't understand what the logic is of buying a one-time FULL PAYMENT PHONE requires eligibility process.

WTF APPLE!!!???

SERIOUSLY!!! WHAT THE GOD D*** F****!!!!!
Soon they will be checking macrumors posts history, and if you wrote something bad - better luck next year :)

Meanwhile, at AT&T...

Yes, I was in disbelief. I was ready to throw my iPad across the room. They are doing updates now??

That would be great.

That's actually one of the nice things about the loan. You can set up autopayment on a credit card and forget about it.

My alarm didn't wake me up in time so I tried around 5:45 CT. Only one store in my area had them in stock, and for the 256gb 7+ that I wanted, they only had Rose Gold on Verizon. I'm an AT&T customer, so I'm hoping this won't be a problem. Reserved for pickup through the AUP anyway, we'll see what happens. I wanted matte black, but I can live with the rose gold.
The Verizon version is unlocked, it should work fine.

No it's an iPhone 7; that's what Apple called it and rightfully so. The memory options alone kill the ol' se nonsense.
They have the new memory options on older models too

Does the iPhone 7 have a unique feature like 3D Touch

Up well before 3 am on the East Coast. So much fun watching the activity, like ants finding a sugar source. I'll wait until the Iphone 8 next year.

Cool story, bro.
[doublepost=1473517589][/doublepost]
Why is the 32GB option not available on the jet black version??

Because Apple knew it'd be the most popular model. So why offer it in 32GB, when you can force people to buy a more expensive storage size?

Oh, were you expecting psychic abilities? Quit whining.
[doublepost=1473441870][/doublepost]The AOS didn't go live until 12:11am PST, and I was able to get my matte black 128gb iPhone 7 by 12:15am. Delivering the 16th. I had a feeling about the jet black being a risky choice.

ERM. Are you saying its ok for a link on the UK site to direct you to the US site? No so just shush it should not have been like that it should have worked right away.

Yes, dual cameras, 4 cores, no head phone jack, redesigned antenna bands, 3 gig, new memory options. All new features.
Dual Cameras.Useless for me as I plan on buying the regular size version.I dont want a dinner plate for a phone .Sorry
4 cores? The usual performance boost like the tri core A8X upgrade from the iPad Air to the Air 2
3 gigs-I dont want a dinner plate phone
New memory options-Irrelevant as I always get the 128 gig model.Who buys those low storage options anyway? And is STORAGE space a upgradeworthy feature?

Antenna bands-Ok so this is the only NEW feature.
Headphone jack-Care to explain how it helped my experience of the phone in any way?

Now 3D Touch in comparison was a game changer. It existed on the norml size phone
