Thought the rumours of pro were shot down by the leaks guy.

I do worry how much the 256GB model will be though. Would never need that much storage anyway

Yea they have, the iPhone 7 Plus will probably be the on with the dual camera. The 256GB version makes sense for heavy users, don't forget that dual camera will probably take very impressive pictures, which will probably take up more memory, just like Live Photos. Then there is 4K video which eats up storage, so all in all a 256GB makes perfect sense

I really hope we don't have to wait until October for newly unveiled MacBook Pro's - and then released all the way in November. I'd love to see them announced alongside the iPhone 7.

True, very interested how much extra space those pics will take up

I imagine 256GB will be reaching £899 UK pounds

I'm thinking closer to £1k. The pound has done badly after brexit, and will no doubt drop more ....thinking Apple will raise prices before launch. Did the same in Aus , prices went up 15% before iPhone 6S ....ouch

Me, too. I can't wait for both products to be fully released and reviewed and compared. The Note 7 camera is the same as the one in the S7 so it's a known quantity by now, I think. But the dual camera on the IPhone 7 Plus or Pro is going to be all new and an unknown quantity. I think for me, it is the only truly exciting thing about this release.

I think Apple have probably seen what Samsung have done with their camera in the phones and have thought "how can we be better" and to be fair they probably will, until Samsung then puts a dual camera in their phones and they claim to be the best and the cycle starts all over again!

I'm sure this will be a great update for some users.

People are "hoping" that next years Apple phone will be awesome and Apple has been saving a new design for an anniversary they have never celebrated .

While Apple has actually moved to three year cycles on its iPhone launches to squeeze extra profit out .

The disappointment and realisation will not kick in till 2019 when we get the iPhone 7SS....
apples main motive is not profit or revenue, Peter drucker 101. Plus I'm not sure how this is a three year cycle...because they didn't change a popular form factor? I know YOU believe that margin is the driving force, but Apple doesn't operate that way. Necessity is the really the driving force for them. Buts it's much easier for Internet hyperbole and click bait blogs to cite margin and profit.

256GB will be out of my price range then

The only question is how to restart the phone if it freezes completely, but they will solve this!
I see two options:
– a €99 dongle with a button
– visit to Apple Store

I'm an Android boy for a few years now but still very curious what Apple come up with next. I'm not exactly platform agnostic and the moment they convince me to do so I'm jumping ship again. (Removing the headphones jack does not convince me.)

My bigger concern right now is the strong US dollar, and a potential pro model, meaning the price is going to be very high outside of the US. The top spec iPhone is getting too damn expansive.
I think that is a reasonable concern. In my opinion and to keep their market share, Apple has to keep the price stable. However, I don't know how they will achieve this.
Their pricing no has no space for a "Pro" version other than the very top:
6s 16/64/128GB $649/749/849
6s+ 16/64/128GB $749/849/949
So I would suggest that the "normal" 7+ exists only as the entry level 5,5" phone:
7 32/64/128GB $649/749/849 (if they keep the 256GB exclusive to the Pro which would make sense)
7 32/128/256GB $649/799/949
7+ 32GB $749
7Pro 128/256GB $899/999
That is a bit clumsy, but I really think the non-pro 7+ only exists as an entry level option for those who want 5,5" but don't want to spend that sum of money.

Well, it's Apple itself who has accustomed us to a biennial radical iPhone refresh, so it's fair to expect them to deliver. Like it or not, an unchanged form factor makes this phone look like yesterday's news.

Oh, and Apple does operate that way. Hardware holdups, refocusing to services, Wall Street pleasing and MARGINS all the way. Do you have evidence of the contrary?

You watch. People will blame Apple for the price increases yet it was us, the U.K. public that messed it all up.

They are redesigning the whole phone next year. It makes sense to do it then.

according to whom though? just because it is an anniversary? and why bother with yet another home button implementation if they are going to get rid of it all together next year anyway. seems to be wasted research and money. apple of all companies certainly isnt here for that

I was thinking the same thing. I find it hard to believe that stereo sound was the main goal, considering it will just seem like a single point source if its more than a few feet away (with the two speakers placed so close together). I imagine the second speaker's main intent will be compensate for a smaller set of speakers (if they are smaller), or slightly improve output quality (if they arent smaller). But I'm sure stereo will be in their marketing material if this rumour is true.
.

Now you have me wondering about you!
Just how many feet away from your phone are you when you are playing a game, or say watching a video on your phone?

A lot of people would be holding their phone approx 1 foot away when focused on such things.

It makes no sense to break their biennial redesign cycle because of a rumored anniversary release.

A great many iPhone customers have adapted to this cycle with 2-year contracts and the works. It's rather nasty to throw them such a curveball because there's "another better design down the road".

Didn't think about the 2nd speaker taking the place of the jack.

Given I've used the 3.5" port exactly zero times on my 6S+, and that I use the speaker daily, the switch is a very welcome one.

I don't know. It's not like it really made the phone any better for you. It's simply a non-issue for you. For me though, when my Note 7 gets here, it will have a headphone jack. At least in 2016 not having one is a deal breaker.

I do keep up with the times, and maybe in 2018 when I replace it, it will be a non-issue for me as well. But in 2016 not having a headphone jack is 100% a deal breaker.

Still thinking that the "second speaker" is really just the microphone, designed to have the same grill as the speaker for symmetry. Like the 5 series.

Also, are people forgetting we still have other physical buttons? Hard resetting could easily be changed from lock button + home button to lock button + volume button.

1. Implement a thin multicolored notification LED ring around the pressure sensitive button.

2. Stop putting the camera and flash at the top corner. Make the phone thicker and but a larger battery pack top and bottom and place the camera and flash smack damn in the Apple logo sitting completely flush behind glass. That way when you hold the phone you don't have to worry about finger placement. That would look sick and functional at the same time.

3. Get rid of the speakers at the bottom and make the ear piece double as a loud speaker on the front. Again, hands won't block speaker.

4. Wrap the antenna line from the left side of the Lightning port all along the sides and top to the right side of the port. The back would stay super clean.

Perhaps what they're doing this year will be incorporated into next years phone?

If it could be used as a tiny D-pad when holding the phone on is side that would have epic implications for iOS gaming.

A deal breaker *for you*, and for some reasons you failed to elaborate.

For semi-professional use, or hi-end headphones, there are fantastic DAC lightning interfaces that sound an order of magnitude better than the Cirrus Logic found on the 6S.

For casual listeners, Apple will provide good enough lightning earbuds or, as I suspect, BT5 AirPods.

Finally, for those already on premium BT wireless headphones, nothing will change, but a better, stereo sound out of the onboard speakers.

No deal will be broken in the process.
