A deal breaker *for you*, and for some reasons you failed to elaborate.

For semi-professional use, or hi-end headphones, there are fantastic DAC lightning interfaces that sound an order of magnitude better than the Cirrus Logic found on the 6S.

For casual listeners, Apple will provide good enough lightning earbuds or, as I suspect, BT5 AirPods.

Finally, for those already on premium BT wireless headphones, nothing will change, but a better, stereo sound out of the onboard speakers.

No deal will be broken in the process.

And a non-deal breaker *for you*. Classic displacement, think as I do or you don't have an argument.

We can agree at least that each other's anecdotal experience may not be the candidate for the absolute truth.

*Personally*, removing the 3.5" from an otherwise unchanging phone is a deal breaker. Next to that, between the casual listeners and the deep-pocketed audiophiles, you seem to have eliminated all the in-betweeners who may be happy with eg. a pair of wired Sennheiser Momentum cans and can't or won't deal with another dongle or DAC, for the sake of price, practicality or whatnot.

Will this be a real haptic feedback system, or will in be another giant vibrator in the middle of the phone?

This is the device (gold standard) they have yet to beat:

Is this actually a selling point, though? I mean, it's nice to have, but it doesn't really change or impact the functionality of the phone itself. At least with the trackpad, you now have uniform pressure throughout. Here, I just don't see any noticeable difference from a physical button.

As much as I prefer Apple to others, I continue to be disappointed at the rate of change and enhancements. Yes 3D touch was nice last year but this years new features leave me yawning. Two years and we have a removal of the hideous white antenna band, a change in the home button, a second speaker and enhanced dual lens in a new iPhone "Pro" model.
Personally, they are paying a lot of designers and engineers a great deal of money for small incremental changes.
I'll pass this year and will be hopeful that next year there will something that compels me to upgrade.

Oh yeah, still waiting for something to happen in the snail's paced enhancement to the iMac or MBP.

More and more it seems that Apple talks about "being excited" about future products and innovation but is slow to deliver.

Apple has a LONG way to catch up to Samsung's design. Example look at the just announced Note 7 vs the 6S Plus. Not only does the Note 7 have a .2" larger screen but it down right destroys the 6S Plus in overall design and bezels http://www.androidcentral.com/sites...7-iphone-6s-plus-comparison.jpg?itok=hDvBSNOZ. It's really impressive by Samsung to be honest.
Not impressed at all. First of all people just like to bash iPhone 6/6S, but it's actually very well designed phone. Bezel is a feature. Razor thin or no bezel just looks ridiculous to me.

Elaborate? It's been repeated 100,000 times on other similar threads. Why do the koolaid drinkers insist in be repeated every time?

What more interesting to add, there's a rumor floating around that Apple is implementing a custom implementation of bt that allows low power audio. I'm looking forward to bt headphones that last for weeks.

according to whom though? just because it is an anniversary? and why bother with yet another home button implementation if they are going to get rid of it all together next year anyway. seems to be wasted research and money. apple of all companies certainly isnt here for that

You can forget the tick-tock cycle, that's out of the window now. Adding a redesigned Home button wouldn't of cost a lot of money. It's not new. The MacBook and Watch already have it.

Zoom on smart phones is pointless unless it is mounted to something to keep it stable. If the iPhone came with an ejectable tripod, that might be fun. But obviously will not ever happen.
it will not be a 600mm focal lengh, you now.

u could make phones with smaller footprint.
not a fan of curved screen but bezel less phone or a very thin one will be cool to have! i have no idea what the design team is doing exactly. still obsessing about that silly watch crown...? :(

So, together with DJ Cerla we have TWO people who won't miss the 3.5" jack. My, what a sweeping demographic.

Macrumours is hardly a reflection of the demographic.

I agree that they could make left and right side bezels thinner, but top and bottom are simetrical. They can't make bottom thinner because it has home button (they would need to get rid of it if they wanted) and making top thinner will make it look stupid like almost every android phone out there.

I respect Apple for this.

Let's make a 'feature'.
We'll call it something really technical so we can market it.
We'll then drop it in two years and repeat this process.

Done.

Count me in as the third person who won't miss it. They'll have a solution for it, and it'll work just fine. Yes, annoying that my Sennheiser, Beats, and other pairs of headphones won't work without an adapter, but I'll get used to it fast. No reason to pout if/when it happens.

I am looking forward to the keynote for the iPhone 7 just to see how they will try to sell it. Usually people are disappointed in the next iPhone leaked specs until the keynote. A week or two after the keynote on day #1, you have long lines for the new iPhone. It is interesting how Apple can do that over and over again.

Marketing will probably say "A10 chip will provide a 64-bit desktop level experience on your phone." or "Improvements to Bluetooth will give you headphone port quality sound but if you use the Lighting port headphone, you will get 3x better sound quality." Then the standard "Take DSLR quality photos on the new iPhone Pro. Look at the quality compared to last year's iPhone. The lighting on the face is incredible. Check out the shadows on that pic." Then you will get people posting the "Take my money" Fry photo after the keynote.

Who even came up with that? There wasnt an anniversary iPod or MacBook, was there?

I mean iOS 10 had its anniversary this year and its nothing revolutionary either
I agree, it seems people just want to believe there will be something special.
Like the rapture or second coming.

Well, it's Apple itself who has accustomed us to a biennial radical iPhone refresh, so it's fair to expect them to deliver. Like it or not, an unchanged form factor makes this phone look like yesterday's news.

Oh, and Apple does operate that way. Hardware holdups, refocusing to services, Wall Street pleasing and MARGINS all the way. Do you have evidence of the contrary?

And this is what competitors are hoping, you will choose them over Apple if your displeasure is so significant.

i wonder if this button will have different actions for a softer and harder touch.
