This is not a BMW problem. It's IOS 10 and bluetooth. Happened on my 6s plus now my 7 plus. Happens egregiously on my Ford Fusion Energi. Not useable - after 2 minutes it becomes dead. Happens on my Plantronics Backbeat pro headphones (along with people not hearing my voice on calls). Happens on my UE MegaBoom speaker. I am puzzled how Apple can put a release (with all the betas) and have it break so badly.

Bluetooth has always been problematic with the Ford. Starts playing music as soon as it connects despite the settings on the ford turned off. Random disconnects that can only be fixed by pulling over. Turning off the car, opening the door so everything shuts down, close the door, start the car back up and continue. This alone makes me never want to buy a ford again.

Precisely.

I have a new BMW M3 and use a 6S. Bluetooth audio stopped working on iOS 10 but once i restarted the phone, the audio seems to now work.
Hopefully it works each time I get in the car, and dont have to restart the phone for each trip.

My brothers 3 Series has not had any issues. Wonder if pends on the latest software firm update.

Having issues myself as well w/ a 2011 KIA Soul. If I reset everything & connect... it works fine a couple times, but then I get a 'connection failed' message & it won't work unless I reset & start the whole pairing process over again. This is a huge PITA!

Who has the desire, time, and energy to deal with this kind of buffoonery? This is why I believe the 3.5 mm jack will be back. :)

Yeah, everyone seems to be forgetting all the issues with iOS 8 and Bluetooth that was fixed after 2-3 updates

But we had the universal headphone jack to fall back on, right?

I'm having some problems with my 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser and 7+, as I posted in an earlier thread.

I don't think this is an iPhone 7 issue nor a BMW ONLY issue. I think it's an iOS 10.x.x issue.

My 6s+ running 10.0 was fine for the few days I had it before getting the 7+.

Well that's bmw quality for you! I will never by another one again.

But this problem is bigger than BMW, all car manufactures charge for updates, so you buy a 50,000 dollar car, but they want to charge you 200 for a software update. Only last year did BMW start offering free over the air updates, and it's only because of Tesla sales are rising!

When you buy your next car, we should be rewarding car manufactures who are cutting edge, or were open to Car play! While I love Toyota, it has the worst info system not to mention that Entune doesn't even work in Canada!

Over the past two weeks, an increasing number of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus users have experienced Bluetooth audio issues in vehicles. The majority of users experiencing problems appear to be BMW owners, regardless of model, but other vehicle brands such as Hyundai and Kia appear to be involved in limited cases.

The issues range from audio cutting out to connectivity issues with infotainment systems. BMW users in particular report being able to stream music for about 5-10 seconds, at which point the ConnectedDrive system freezes. Fixing the system requires restarting the iPhone, but the issue reemerges once the connection is reestablished.

MacRumors reader YachtMac posted in our discussion forums:Apple Support Communities member Chandy911 echoed the same problem:MacRumors reader PorscheRain:BMW itself has acknowledged the issues and said it is working with Apple to ensure iPhone 7 compatibility in its vehicles:Apple has seemingly told some customers the fix will be included in an upcoming software update. The issue is still present on iOS 10.1 beta. BMW owners are recommended to update to the latest version of ConnectedDrive as a preparative measure. BMWs equipped with CarPlay do not appear to be affected.

These types of issues have been seen before. In 2014, some users experienced trouble pairing their devices to their vehicles via Bluetooth after upgrading to iOS 8 or purchasing a new iPhone 6 or 6 Plus. Apple fixed the issues in iOS 8.1. Similar issues affecting some iPhone SE users were addressed in iOS 9.3.2.

I think there is an issue with iOS10. I've updated my phone and recently needed to use bluetooth in a rental vehicle, which was a Peugeot. The phone also kept disconnecting at random, which it didn't do before. Mine is an 'ancient' iPhone 6.

I highly doubt it is entirely either Apple's fault, nor BMW's fault. Bluetooth is a buggy, horrible technology. I recently bought a JBL Flip 3 bluetooth speaker, and a Panasonic mini hifi system with bluetooth, and have found the connections to both of those to be hit and miss. The Panasonic is hopeless, connecting to very few phones and laptops, and constantly drops out to what it does connect to. My iPhone 6 connects to them both, and to my car, but has dropout problems with the Panasonic in particular, and the JBL sometimes. My 2012 macbook pro won't connect to either. My son's iPad will only connect to the JBL. When I invite my guests to connect and play music, most of their phones (of all types) fail to connect to either device. I am completely over bluetooth, it's a failed technology in my view. I'll be switching to a wifi stereo next. Thankfully *my* car connects reliably, but it may be because I refuse to risk killing my phone by updating the iOS.

I'm also completely sick of the lightning connector, and it's "this cable is not certified" error, even with genuine Apple cables. It is pure greed gone wrong.

I have a 2014 BMW 650 ix, iPhone 7. Bluetooth works like a champ, far better than my old iPhone 6.

Yeah...because it's BMW's fault that iOS 10 likely messed it up where Apple said that it will be fixed with the next update.

And I think you're confusing ECU update and iDrive update. You could update iDrive (which is what would be affected) free of charge at least since 2011 if not earlier through BMW's update website with the use of a USB key.

After upgrading our iPhone 6+ to IOS 10, Whatsapp voice messages stopped coming thorough the speakers on our BMW. It was perfectly fine with IOS 9. So, the problem is with IOS 10 rather than BMW.

Apple has no time to actually test their products.....plus the fact that ANYTHING..that is wireless is always problematic....every lost a call on your mobile phone? Every had you Bluray or other device lose the wifi network?
Anything that is wireless is going to have problems...
That's why going wireless for headphones is not a smart move ...

Same car same issue ... I've only had my iphone 7+ for 2 days... but this needs to be fix pronto.

This issue impacts more than just cars, and with respect to the person who is seeing problems with a 6, the bluetooth issues I am seeing did not impact my old 5S, which saw every version of iOS 10 from developer beta 4 through to final release 10.0.1. My 7, on the other hand, drops connections, while syncing, and requires a new pairing every single time I want to initiate syncing with a Polar V800 triathlon watch. We know that Apple is a member of the Bluetooth sanctioning body, and it appears that the 7 is fully current with the latest specification changes; but, older devices, including various automotive stereo head units, the iPhone 5S, and triathlon watches, have yet to be updated.

Quality of the sound, on phone calls and Siri, are my complaints. Was working perfectly until I upgraded to iOS 10.x.

Edit: I am using an iPhone 5S

Im glad this is finally getting publicity.

Problem is in the OS. Audio stutters, has problems connecting. Glitchy with a 6S in a 2015 Jeep Cherokee and with a 7+ in a 2015 mercedes E Class. Both on iOS 10.0.2

It's not just wireless. It's computers and software in general, regardless of the hardware interface. I routinely had headphone jack problems on all of my iPhones, requiring a complete restart. Audio would just stop, controls would stop working, I couldn't switch between headphone, speaker or handset, etc. It had nothing to do with the hardware per se, but most likely software glitches depending on my source.

Wireless or wired, any complex sophisticated piece of equipment running constantly tweaked software is going to fail in numerous ways.
