Same thing with my 2015 BMW 435 convertible. Never happened on previous iPhones.

This is yet another epic fail by Apple. "It just works....for less than a minute."

Yeah...because it's BMW's fault that iOS 10 likely messed it up where Apple said that it will be fixed with the next update.

And I think you're confusing ECU update and iDrive update. You could update iDrive (which is what would be affected) free of charge at least since 2011 if not earlier through BMW's update website with the use of a USB key.

In Canada, idrive updates are charged for. Not to mention the maps. For my 2013 they quoted me :S, which I bought brand new from Calgary. 10 Trips to service for defective parts including a failed mechatronic. I accept I might have had a lemon, but boy was it a bad lemon.

Anyways, would love a Tesla. :)

My nissan leaf has been acting weird with this upgrade too. If I hit random, the playlist on screen is shuffled, but the next track is never the next track on the list. It highlights the next track, but now playing shows what is actually playing. It's not a showstopper, but it is weird.

When mine connects everything seems to be working fine, but that's like a couple times in & out of the car until the dreaded 'connection failed' message pops up! And I NEVER had any bluetooth issues with any of my other iPhones in this car for the past 5 years (6s, 6, 5s, 5, 4)
Same - the past couple of days - I pair - it holds for TWO rides then - can not connect - WTH ? - I'm also getting some audio fade downs for a second ... I love the ip7+ but this is a PITA - no one seems to own this problem - I may call apple .

I don't have this issue, i just tried it and ran it over a weekend road trip - used both the ipad and iphone 6s.

So when i get the ip7+ this week, i will try it.

Thanks for the suggestion but it didn't work on my Mini Cooper. Although it's not exactly the same car, I was hoping that it would work, assuming it's a similar system, and I have most of the commands you listed below.

Anyway I think I'll try again. Maybe I didn't some of the steps wrong. Can u clarify, between steps 3 &4, are you playing music from the radio? Or should I stay on the Media mode? What about the rest of the process? Should I switch to another mode?

I am the owner of a 2015 BMW M235i. I recently purchased an iPhone 7 Plus and experienced these same problems. I paired my new iPhone to my BMW and got about 1 minute into playing when the playing stopped. Repeated attempts to unpaid and repair failed.

Today I tried something different. Hope it helps others (see attached image)

1. Erase the BMW bluetooth connection from the iPhone.
2. Erase the iPhone bluetooth connection from the BMW.
3. Resync both. You'll likely find that you're having the same issues.
4. At the screen that presents USB/Bluetooth/AUX connection options (Set Wireless Device Via), select "Connections".
5. You'll see your phone listed in under "Connected:"
6. Press the physical iDrive options button.
7. Deselect "Audio" and leave "Telephone" selected. Select OK.
8. The iPhone will unpair and the source will change.
9. Renter the previous screen and select "Audio". Select "OK".
10. Bluetooth audio returns to works again, business as usual.

Not sure if this has been mentioned already, but so far I've had good luck changing to "Radio" before turning the car off. When starting up again, let the radio play for a few seconds, then switch back to "Media". Last few times I've tried, Podcasts will play normally over Bluetooth (haven't tried music yet, I'm assuming it's the same?). iPhone 7+/M235i.

2015 BMW 228i here. No joy...
It seems almost any restart, removal, ranting and raving will get it to work for awhile. Soon after it goes back to losing the connection, skipping, stopping and losing the audio connection. Only Apple can fix this one.

This worked great, thank you.

Nice excuse. Instead of fixing the problem, point finger at somebody else!
Not pointing the finger. Just mentioning a car make that hasn't been mentioned yet. The point of this thread is to try to figure out consistencies and resolve the problem...Or discover together if the issue is indeed iOS 10 or iPhone 7.

Then I'm sure you will be trading in your iPhone 7. Because they are now exploding now. BUT ALL YOU FAN BOYS CAN REST ASSURED CAUSE WORD IS EVEN THE IPHONE EXPLOSIONS ARE BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSES.
I am no fanboi. I am working on sliding right out of the crApp$e ecosystem. They have completely lost their way. I can run Pro Tools with no problem on a Windows based PC at this point. I really don't want to leave but they are giving no choice with the way they are tightening the screws on their users. I keep coming here hoping to see them come to their senses. It's not going to happen I guess.

I am using an iPhone 7 with a 2012 Hyundai Tucson without navigation and I put on iOS 10.1 Beta 2 on Wednesday. I paired my phone again and I have had the car on and off at least 10 times since then without experiencing the "pairing failed" error (which was causing me to have to delete and pair again).

It was pretty frustrating before because I was experiencing this failure after 1 or 2 times of turning the car on and off, which required a manual delete and pair again for it to work temporarily.

Crossing my fingers that it is fixed for good..

TEMPORARY SOLUTION:

I have a 2015 428i and what seems to fix the issue for me (for the most part, from time to time there's a dropout) is forgetting the bluetooth device on the phone. Delete the bluetooth profile from the car. Then on the iPhone go to settings, general, about and change the name of your phone. Pair the bluetooth again and waaalaaaa!

I don't think this is an iPhone 7 issue nor a BMW ONLY issue. I think it's an iOS 10.x.x issue.

I'm on 10.1 PB, and I have the same problem when my iPhone 6 is paired to my Sena 20S (motorcycle bluetooth headset).

I believe this is an iPhone 7 issue and not an iOS 10.

I have this issue only with iPhone 7 Plus (running iOS 10) and BMW, and when I tried using my older iPhone 6 Plus (running iOS 10 as well) no issue at all with audio Bluetooth.

Hope this helps.

Has anyone else tried 10.1 Public Beta 2 or 3? It has resolved my issues entirely on my 2012 Hyundai Tucson. I'm curious if others have had any success.

I have seen a couple reports in the BMW forums that beta 2 fixed the issue for a couple BMW owners, so it might do the trick for you also.

Little off topic but I recently picked up GoPro Hero 5 Black. Set it up with my old iPhone 6 no problem. I used GoPro Capture app (wifi & bluetooth).

When I received my iPhone 7 a few days ago, I tried doing the same with GoPro and it would not connect.

Hopefully a revised iOS or firmware will fix it.

I have a Honda, and I'm hoping that the next release helps me (not using any betas on my phone).

PB3 appears to have mostly resolved BT issues with my 2015 m3 that stared as soon as I got the iPhone 7

Updated to the latest beta to see if these issues had been fixed, but it only seemed to make mine worse! It used to stay connected after a couple times in & out of the car, now it will connect once & that's it.. I get the pairing failed message, the next time it tries to re-connect.

So I may have spoken too soon - things were good for a couple days but then yesterday it messed up again and I had a nice long silent drive. Really annoying. Installing PB4 now, hopefully Apple can get its **** together. ****ing lazy ass devs.

Have you tried changing the name of your iPhone? Remove your iPhone from the Bluetooth devices in your car, then on your iPhone Bluetooth choose your car and select 'Forget this device'. Rename your iPhone and pair again.
