Hey Apple - I'll give you this statement free of charge. Please make use of it in your next keynote and post it to your website before you release the 7s or the 8 or whatever you call it.

"Pre-orders start at midnight on Thursday. U.S. Customers - You will need to be an existing or new customer of T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T, or Verizon to purchase a phone from the Apple Store. Please be prepared with your existing account details and phone number if you have a plan on one of those carriers. Otherwise, we will be happy to set you up with a new account on T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T or Sprint when you order your device."

Was that so hard?

I ordered on WiFi using the Apple Store app on my iPhone 6 Plus and it could not have gone smoother.

Same here. Was in at 12:04 on the app, done and out and confirmed - all on WIFI - by 12:07.

Doesn't everyone already know that? That's why you set everything up in your favorites the day before. 12:01 events are for veterans anyways.

I was more referring to the fact that you had to have an account with one of the big 4 carriers in order to buy the phone last night. If you were looking to just buy the phone without a carrier affiliation, you were out of luck. I wish Apple was more clear about that. If you live in the US and don't have an account with Sprint, ATT, Verizon, or TMobile, you can't have a phone on launch day. I wish they would be very clear on that.

Now that phones are no longer subsidized, there is no real reason to pay the high prices of the big 4 carriers, so many of us prefer to buy our phone and take it to any budget carrier we want. Apple is saying that they don't want us to be able to have a launch day phone unless we are with the "big 4". It's their right to do that, I just wish they said it clearly so I know that I can't have a 7 on a budget carrier until later on.

Got in at 3:03 and ordered 128gb black iPhone 7 reservation for upgrade program. iPhone Apple Store app is the best way. Went super smooth.

I was trying it on the app and it still wasn't available! It wasn't until 2:14 (an eternity in the middle of the night) till I got my order in! Anyway, pumped about my black 128 7
Did you get a 9/16 delivery date? I have an in-store reservation for the jet black 128 iPhone 7 for 9/16 (I'm on the Apple Upgrade Program).

I paid full price last year and didn't have to enter any carrier details for t-mobile or att.

Reactions: Just sayin...
I just enrolled in the Apple Upgrade Plan today, but for future releases and to give the program another perk nobody else has, Apple should email their Upgrade Plan customers the day of the iPhone announcement and allow them to give advanced notice that they want to upgrade as long as they do so within 24 hours or something. Would take a lot of pressure off the servers on the pre-order date and get them a lot more customers using their plan. Just a (wishful) thought.

I AGREE! They should at least set aside phones for those who are on the plan. I was trying to logon at 12:01 and couldn't get on until 12:15. The only thing they had available was RoseGold in the 4 stores around me.

Yeah they are forcing verification through a carrier, so if you want to just buy a phone outright and then use it on another account or carriers you are basically S. H. I. T out of luck. Seems Apple has bowed to the carriers to do this. Last year I was able to select a carrier for pickup and it didn't require any kind of verification. OH Well, I was on the fence about upgrading anyway, so this just mades it easier. I'll stick with my current phone for now. I really wish I would have went my ass to bed now.

I think it's more to avoid all the ebay people selling them for triple the money. Though that started happening at midnight last night anyway. Everyone selling their reserved phones.

between 3:09 and 3:12 AM (EST)...I wasn't able to get in until 3:09 AM, when I was done ordering mine, the shipping times already slipped to 1-2 weeks
I ordered around 12:10 when it came up. Could not complete orders because of ATT security passcode problem. Got reservation numbers, answered the question but apple website checkout link fails, page not found. Now on the phone for almost an hour to get this fixed and still waiting. Frustrating. Last time I am doing this.
Edit. I was able to go back to my orders and finish them with the Apple Upgrade program. My wife's iPhone 7 plus rose gold is already preparing for shipment with delivery on Sep 16. My iPhone 7 plus jet black is slated for two to three weeks shipping

Flat black 7+ 256GB Verizon, just ordered around 1:00pmEST with a ship date of 9/23. Hoping it will get moved up, but no worries I have patients. I am upgrading from a 5s 16GB, which honestly runs great on iOS 10. I can't believe I was given $400 trade-in value.

Anyone with VZ direct got a earlier date than 9/26.
Ordered 1 at 3:06-3:08 (when the site on both apple/vz came live).
Matte Black 256 Plus - deliver date by 9/26

Ordered another one at 7:45 ish this morning .
Same specs.
SAME deliver date (I was expecting something like early Oct) on this early morning order

I was really excited about the upgrade program coming to the UK, but having read through all the problems people are having in the US trying to actually do an upgrade it sounds like more trouble than it's worth. I just took the hit and ordered a 7 Plus Black 128GB off the website (only about £150 more expensive in the long run), but unfortunately didn't make this decision until about 8:40am so am looking at 4-10 October, but hopefully that will come forward a bit.

Fair play to you. I must admit I'm not feeling the love for getting involved in the upgrade plan after seeing all the hassle in the US. I was tempted to this year as I fancied an upgrade to the 7, but really want the 8 if it's to be as amazing as the speculation and hype is believing it may be.

I felt the upgrade path was going to give me a "cheap" iPhone for a year, e.g. £49 up front plus 11 x £44 by and selling my 6 Plus (a recycler company has given a price locked quote of £300) I would effectively be paying £233 for a new iPhone for a year with some added nice features (such as the telephoto lens) and then upgrade it for the new 8. I was hoping the upgrade program would effectively secure you an upgrade on release day, but it seems not.

I think I might just go back to paying full price and selling my old one. I made even skip this year now, but I'm not sure that I actually will :)

209 central and still closed!
Same problem for me. It was 12:09 or so before it let me load the store. Using Safari on Mac and Apple Store App on iPhone. By the time I was able to get my order through, it was saying a ship date in October. Unfortunately I had to cancel at that point as the window was too wide since I travel for work for most of October and I don't want a phone sitting on my porch or returned.

I got in early but wasn't able to secure a black one. I got got instead. Thinking I can camp out the store and exchange it later in the day. Thoughts?

Hope you made sure you got the right kind of phone for the budget carrier you want because the 7 isn't both GSM and CDMA like the 6. You have to choose the right one for the provider.

I called the MOA Apple store to find out if they had a way for me to look at the 7 to try to decide on black or Jet black and he said they won't get the display phones until the start of shipping. He said I had a couple weeks to decide if I liked the color or wanted to exchange the phone for a different one. Wish they would at least have color chips to look at!

P.S. I delayed calling the Apple store just to find this out because I thought they would be really busy with pre-orders but he was really chill, friendly and chatted with me for quite a while about what I was excited about the new iPhone and such. So nice to get a rep that isn't trying to rush me off the phone or doesn't know what they are talking about. Service!!

I scheduled a call with an agent from Verizon. To call me at 12:01 AM to place the order. The order was placed around 12:13 AM. However on the Verizon site it's showing a delivery date of 9/23! Anyone else have anything coming in sooner that placed the order through Verizon? So STUPID! To have to wait an extra week when placing the order within 15 min of the pre-order start time.

Don't mean to interrupt a flow in this thread, please feel free to direct me to another one. I just enrolled in the upgrade program tonight. Will I receive further information on making payments early or am I left to figure that out for myself?

Edit: Just wanted to know if I could make some early payments via Citizens One and how that was managed.
You need to go to the Citizens One website directly and deal with them. Not Apple.
