How is T-Mobile able to justify taking the hit on giving away free iPhones? iPhone 6 16 GB would fetch at most $250. T-Mobile is taking a max $400 hit on each iPhone ordered through this offer in lieu of guaranteed 24-month customer retention/gain. The more I think about this, it seems win-win for both parties.

#1 - The iPhone 7+ looks like a really solid upgrade to me. If it weren't for the fact that my iPhone 6+ is still going strong and next year's iPhone is set to be an even better upgrade from the 7+ than from the 6S+ to 7+, I'd think about it. I don't know why people keep talking about the 7+ like it isn't amazing.

#2 - I think this reflects T-Mobile being a growing carrier more than the 7/7+ selling a lot better than past phones. The phone market is pretty saturated at this point and I don't think the general public cares that much about upgrading, no matter how great the upgrade is. I think this reflects T-Mobile stealing market share from Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon.

Well said ..... I can be happier more after moving from the crook AT&T
I don't have a worry of using excess data and most of my streaming is paid for by TMobile...

They are genuinely a customer company and we as a consumer should support a company like that

Once TMobile announce a free iPhone 7 upgrade to iPhone 6 user..NOW every company followed them... bloody crooks....
Yes I have issue with low signal in some area

DonI care ....NO .... way to go TMobile .....
Binge on ....

Amazing. But probably the product of T-Mobile having more customers and more high end customers now than it had two years ago.

I bought a T-Mobile model since my business plan with AT&T blocked me... I am sure many others did too.
I bought a Verizon phone because I couldn't get any T-Mobile phones so I'll make up for your theft and bring T-Mobile back to 400% so there!!!!

They can't possibly have 400% more customers than last year

Something about this story is fishy. The new iPhone is lame. No headphone jack. Same ugly design. Ugly antenna lines. Thick bezels. No quick charging. No stylus. Lame battery life.

There is more to this story. T-Mobile probably had a small supply. Remember, they are a smaller carrier so the numbers are probably unimpressive. Probably something like 10,000, thus a "record breaker."

I agree that the no headphone jack sucks, but the rest of what you said isn't true.

- The design is quite attractive, I think. (but I admit that's subjective)
- Antenna lines have been tweaked and look far better now.
- Bezels are awesome. You can actually hold your phone without covering the screen. I consider this a feature.
- iPhone 7/7+ will quick charge if you use an iPad charger. Yeah, they should have thrown one in the box but at least it's possible.
- Why would you want a stylus? This isn't 2006.
- We don't know what the battery life is like yet! No one has reviewed this. It's likely to be good, though, given the new low power cores and the fact that they actually upped the mAH capacity on both phone sizes.

Apple stock is up today, while the market is mostly down. In fact, it's currently priced higher than it was for Tim Cook's recent stock sales. If he was unloading based on his knowledge that the iPhone sales would tank the stock, he miscalculated. He left some money on the table.

More likely, those stock sales were scheduled without advance knowledge of how the stock would perform, and those who accused him of opportunistic insider selling are the ones who miscalculated.

The camera bump alone makes this phone really ugly. Regardless, I'm sure this is just some marketing spin. T-Mobile is a small carrier so any record is probably really a small number.

For me, the ugly part of antenna was where they ran across the top and bottom edge. The ones that run across the back are fine. So, from my perspective, Apple removed the okay antenna lines and retained the ugly ones.

Unless they were ordered from Apple they aren't.
Well at 3:12 am the Tmobile variant had already slipped to Sept 27-29 so I'm sure the fact that it's the only variant that can be purchased without a plan has something to do with the sales numbers.

Have any lines queued up as yet at any of the retail stores? As that would also be a determining factor as to the success of this year's model. So let's wait to see what happens on Friday.

I ordered my unlocked phone using the T-Mobile option b/c the others required an account number. It's being used on a pre-paid plan. Not all sales for T-Mobile are linked to their accounts...

The Original iPhone launch was nothing but a success. But thanks for the history lesson.
Ha HA so right! I remember when I first got the phone in 2007..I was in a bar and people were texting on their sad little phones
and I brought out the iPhone ...I was just answering a call but people rushed over to check it out!
I'm sure that scene was played out all over the world!
Then came the imitators...Still nothing like the iPhone!
What do they say, imitation being the greatest form of flattery? :)
To the people who are waiting til next year..the Iphone is the best cell phone right now..why wait?
I can upgrade my 6 to the 256 gig 7 for $200 even if you got the 6S why wait? :)

A lot of those tmobile phones were ordered for other networks since it was the easiest way to buy an unlocked phone....
The ones preordered from T-Mobile using financing are all locked to T-Mobile. I think it's safe to say the people who paid full retail and ordered from Apple are a very small minority.

Yeah I think they're just taking the hit in order to have a guaranteed postpaid customer (revenue source) for 24 months.

Sprint is reporting the same. So that excuse goes out the window.

The lines started yesterday.

I wonder if the Samsung debacle is partially responsible for this? Doesn't seem like iP7 offers a lot to get current iOS users to update unless they're coming from a 5s or below. Maybe some Samsung users have decided to give iOS a try this year?

Wow we have an insider here. So by these numbers the entire T-Mobile company had 2,500 iPhone 6 at launch?

Sprint is reporting the same record success so nice try. Back to your exploding iPhoney you go!

T-Mobile and AT&T phones can work on Verizon using VoLTE and probably Sprint so the article lied!

I got a 32 GB 7 Plus for my girlfriend and a 128 GB 7 Plus for myself for $250 upfront and $12/month. Pretty crazy deal. I'd been wanting to get rid of AT&T forever anyway. Download speeds on T-Mobile have been crazy fast too. (AT&T unlocked my 6s Plus for me)

We switched to T-Mobile last year after being with AT&T since 1998. At that time we had three iPhones sharing 3GB of data. I was constantly sending data warnings to our daughter, who used all the data. For about the same price we got a plan with 10GB each; overkill for my wife and I as we're almost always on WiFi but necessary for my 25-year-old son. And T-Mobile is so much easier to deal with than AT&T was. The coverage is great where we live, better than AT&T's.

We upgraded 2 6s's to a 7 and 7+, Jet Black. I'm having second thoughts and might see what the local store has on launch day (assuming we don't receive our phones that day, which is unlikely).

Indeed

Has T-Mobile ever had a free upgrade program before like they did for the 7?

Exactly. This isn't a surprise given you can essentially get the 7 for free on pretty much all carriers in the USA with trading in your 6 or 6s series phone.

Makes Apple look fantastic, but this will certainly hurt someone's bottom line.

Just don't waste your precious time to feed this troll! Now matter how wonderful iPhone is, he still hates Apple and defends Samedung. Just ignore him, the ultimate loser!!!

Just ignore him! He is pathetic, really don't understand why he trolls here instead of spending time on some meaningful things?
