So much for the wake up, have breakfast, and order sometime in the early afternoon that some MR forum member stated.
Actually, the were pretty well stocked except for the Jet Black 128gb which was quoting a November ship date a day off or within a week or two of others. I ordered black one a day after the presales started and should get it when they are officially put on sale.

The dual camera is definitely the success of the IPhone 7, along with other contributing upgrades.

The dual camera was the focal point on the Keynote.

A lot of those tmobile phones were ordered for other networks since it was the easiest way to buy an unlocked phone....

True, in past releases. This time however, the unlocked T-Mobile iPhone can only be used on GSM networks (T-Mo, AT&T). Unless there was a surge of ATT customers wanting the T-Mobile mode, I think it's safe to say that the majority of those T-Mo iPhones sold were for actual T-Mo customers.

The 6SS is selling well. Not bad for what is essentially last years phone, with an upgraded camera and some new colours

And new CPU and GPU and an updated design and dual speakers and better hard drives and RAM.

Seriously, what the hell does Apple need to do for you people to be happy? The only thing that makes this seem like a lesser update is the stuff we've seen rumored for the next update after it.

I bought a Verizon phone because I couldn't get any T-Mobile phones so I'll make up for your theft and bring T-Mobile back to 400% so there!!!!

They can't possibly have 400% more customers than last year

The comparison was to two years ago. But they can't have 4 times the number of customers from two years ago. So it must be that the composition of their customers must be much more affluent and likely to be early adopters now than they were two years ago. This can't be indicative of 400% more demand in the US for the iPhone 7 than the iPhone 6. But maybe it is some combination of significantly higher demand for the 7 than there was for the 6 (which would be absolutely shocking, it it turns out to be the case), the number of T-Mobile customers, and the current group of those customers being more likely to pre-order an iPhone.

your right - its the iphone 6, so two years ago. i think it has to do with people being on a two year upgrade path.

Maybe. But if your two years is up from last year then that would just be the same folks that upgraded last year around this time. That wouldn't really explain an increase like this or any increase at all really. Unless what happened is that the 6 was the last of the two year upgrade people, the 6s had massive sales from Android switchers, and now on the 7 we may be seeing the U.S. just transition to being a fully iOS country. And that would be insane considering the price of iPhones compared to very good Android phones.

Anecdotally, my entire office bought the 6. I was the only person in the office to then get the 6S. And I know no one who has ordered the 7 at this point. I know a few who will (two people who have contracts which expire in November and are using the 6 and one person who has T-Mobile upgrade plan on their 6S but that also kicks in in November).

i just re-read the announcement - and sprints numbers are from a year ago http://www.wsj.com/articles/apple-s...reviews-early-preorder-indications-1473784449

I wonder what the sales would have been if ALL THE CARRIERS weren't giving them away for free (or $650 off any configuration)? You wonder why it broke sales records? It's not because it's a breakthrough phone...

I wonder how much Apple is giving the carriers for every $650 gift?

3 words... "artificially limited supply" LOL so much for big bad Apple taking phones away from people. Actually, just like every other year, the websites couldn't handle the millions of people trying to get on them at the same time.

Artificallly limited supply doesn't affect number of preorders. They're talking about our numbers of preorders.

The 7 is basically what the 6S should have been.

How can you say that? Technology progresses, processor architecture needs to progress, of course the 5S is what the 5 should have been, but then camera tech wasn't there, or touch ID wasn't ready to go live yet. The 7S will be what the 7 should have been, but Apple sometimes hold things back so they can try to compel you to buy the next one, or the tech just isn't ready for mass production yet.

I had the same thought - Apple must be subsidizing part of $650. Or, buying back 6/6s from them at a good price. After all, Apple can recycle the chassis. Maybe, a hybrid of two options.

T-mobile also benefits from guaranteed revenue for 24 months.

You said it, mate; Apple sometimes holds things back. Most likely to maintain their substantial profit margins while waiting for tech to be more cost efficient. And most likely why we might not see a AMOLED or equivalent screen until next year's iPhone. So, we end up with the iPhone 6SS this year (or 7 if you're keeping official score at home).
