So if it launches on the 23rd, does that mean pre-orders will be on the 9th? 2 weeks seems a long time to hold pre-orders, unless they are expecting a lot of people to upgrade and or supply constraints maybe due to the dual camera? i'm really hoping Apple hold the event on the 6th or 7th of September as I've got that week off work!

My iphone 5 is on its last legs so looking forward to this....but the question is...will apple tempt me with a 7 or should I get a cheaper 6S?

The 6 has plenty of performance for most users. Unless you're a hardcore phone gamer or some other taxing apps but most people don't need better performance. If you're only upgrading to get water proofing you might as well wait till your 6+ hits the drink first. And lets be honest how many people ever kill their phone with water. In almost 20 years I never have once.

Save your money. OLED screen would be a better reason, maybe even some crazy feature from the dual camera, maybe. Even then I'd wait another year for the big predicted changes next year.

The performance issues weren't just about gaming (actually, I had no issues gaming). It was the aesthetics and functionality. Scrolling through safari or Notification Center was always jittery on my 6+. Also, multitasking was a bit of a pain because I could never keep more than a few tabs open at once.

People don't kill their phones with water damage because most people are generally more careful with their phones around water. Waterproofing = one less thing to worry about, especially if you have kids or spend a lot of time outdoors and don't want a bulky case (or any case). Fewer missed shots of kids in the pool or at the beach is a big deal to me.

As I said, I'm an annual upgrader. Next year's iphone doesn't really factor into my decision because buying now won't stop me from getting a new one in 2017. I'm anticipating some feature that hasn't been leaked yet will likely push me towards buying, but who knows. I'm enjoying my 6s+ so we'll see what's what in 3 weeks.

Yup as were many people. The last one was a spec bump that was not sufficient to part me from my cash.

Well they weren't going to release another one two months later. Every MacBook is a spec bump, its a laptop, what do you expect? You'll probably be the first to complain when the new comes out with radical changes of all USB-C ports that all you really wanted was a spec bump

This is the first time I'm completely tuned out of a iPhone release. Apple needs to be humbled because they are starting to smell themselves a little bit. They feel like they can just launch anything and it will be gold. I got news for you apple everyone is stepping up there fans but you guys now . Even huewaii or however you spell the guys that made the nexus 6p are producing quality phones with amazing performance and the best you can do for the iPhone 7 is pretty much a 6+ with different antennas and removing the 3.5 jack that no one is asking for ? It's starting to feel like Apple is in a bubble not aware how things around them are catching up or even beating them.

Seriously, what's wrong with this forum? Topic is about release date of the next iPhone, and yet the comments is full of people whining, posting about Samsung, Android etc. This place (the comment sections of most topics) is truly depressing. What's the point of complaining all the time about everything?

Go buy a bloody Samsung etc. for all I care, but why constantly b*tch about anything Apple?

You are right and I apologise. I took the bait and posted my positive points about the S7 Edge in response to an anti-Samsung post. Not really relevant to the topic I agree.

It does annoy me though that people dismiss the S7 when they probably haven't used it.

It also annoyed me that I had to switch from an iPhone after years because I don't think Apple are/were producing phones which kept up with or beat the opposition.

Is this FUD?

It depends. Where is that photo from?

Have you ever owned an OLED phone?

What will apple release next year if they just pack every thing they know right now? Its called 'business'

You remind me of those guys who go to brothels and become best friends with the workers there. They don't care about you, they want your money. Same deal with apple. They can release what they want and still make money. They're not sitting here crying over MR comments trying to please 0.000023% of the population.

We'll know soon. ;)
FWIW, if you're in the "sell old to buy new" camp, if I recall correctly, Gazelle will let you get a "we'll buy it for X" price quote somewhat in advance of the "special event" which they will then honor for 30 days, possibly locking in a higher pre-event price while keeping your phone until you receive (whichever) new one.

Ummm, how would September 16 be 2 weeks (14 days) after September 7 introduction date? September 23 is 16 days, slightly more than 2 weeks.

" While Apple typically releases the iPhone about two weeks after introducing it, suggesting a September 16 launch date, new scheduling information from AT&T shared by 9to5Mac indicates that the iPhone 7 might not launch until later in the month, on September 23."

Eager to get this out of the way, so we can talk about iPhone 8. Perhaps Apple will make it worthwhile. Fresh and new, not the same old recycled series 6.

That is very handy indeed! Only problem, its a US based company and im in the UK :-(

I have had a look around the UK ones and i cant find any that have such a generous grace time.

Apple is a Fortune 500 company. They almost always release new products at the beginning of a financial quarter (Q1: Jan-Feb-Mar; Q2: Apr-May-Jun; Q3: Jul-Aug-Sep; Q4: Oct-Nov-Dec). Therefore, they will announce new product(s) in mid-September 2016, and availability will be in early October 2016 which will allow for sales of new product(s) to be reflected in Q4.

PS I know that Apple's financial year is not the same as the calendar year, ... that's too much information for most, and pity details for sake of argument (no time to deal with trolls).

Bottom Line: Announce at end of Quarter, release at beginning of new Quarter. Simple as that!
