Keep it simple and beautiful.

"I was thinking about getting a new phone. What do you have?"
"iPhone"
"Cool. Which model?"
"iPhone"
"But which iPhone? What year?"
"Uh, iPhone?"
"Why's this so complicated?"

"Hello, how can I help you?"
"What's your price on the iPads?"
"Which iPad are you referring to?"
"The medium one I think."
"Ok, the medium one that came out this spring or the medium one that came out last spring or the one that came out the winter before?"
"Do those all have model names so I can check your prices?"
"iPad."
"Seems confusing."

"I'm looking to get a new iPad. Want to buy my old one for $200?"
"Maybe - which model is it?"
"iPad"
"Duh. Never mind."

This would be the same "simple" mess with Macs, except for the tacit release-date naming scheme that gets around the awkward lack of hardware version identifiers. But the iOS market is far different, for many reasons, and I really doubt Apple's ever going to try ditching model version numbers again with the iOS devices after trying that with the inexplicable and misguided naming of "the New iPad" (aka iPad 3).

Using model version numbers is simple.

Anyways...

... because all we need is a thinner phone. Ive should stay in the UK permanently and be out ot the loop ;)

"DID I HEAR SOMEONE SAY THINNER??!!!!"

About time Apple got rid of the headphone jack. Personally I haven't used it a single time since I got my iPhone 6 Plus.

I use the 1/8" jack several times a week for audio output into many types of devices. It's an industry standard and I'm really not interesting in packing around some special adapter just so I can have an even thinner phone – or whatever reason Apple has for deleting it.

Last September, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo issued a report that the iPhone 7 would approach a thinness similar to that of the 6.1mm iPod touch. Mac Otakara's report roughly agrees with that, noting that the iPhone 7 could be 1mm thinner than the 7.1mm iPhone 6s.

And I was about to ask, "Not thinnerrr??"

I'd say less than 5% care about a flush camera or no antenna lines on the back. Most people use cases anyways so if these are the new features they will be touting on the 7 I should probably start selling my stock now because no ones going to give a ****.

They're working on it. The plan is to eventually make it so thin and light that, once dropped, it merely flutters to the ground like a feather. :D

It will slice through the ground if they make it any thinner

Love the way they need an analyst to predict things about the iPhone 7, I wonder how much I could get payed to predict the next iPhone will be thinner!

Dont forget the other favourites..
Upgraded camera, faster processor . Rinse and repeat every couple months

That's a good reason, because you don't use it.

I use the headphone jack and am willing to let it go in order for the iPhone to become smaller. I've noticed that over the years I am using it less and less. There isn't a headphone jack on my dock any more, I don't connect to my home speakers with a cable, I don't connect to the car with a cable - the only remaining purpose is for headphones, but as Bluetooth becomes more of a viable option then it's only a matter of time before I won't use it completely anyway. For those who like wired then Apple will very likely supply a pair of lightning headphones with the iPhone itself.

People are acting like it's the end of the world, but it's really not. It's an evolution, and you have to adapt to survive if you frequent the world of technology.

I'm gonna stop my watch for the first person here to say:

"What? People are still using the 3.5mm headphone-jack in 2016?"

Shouldn't take long...

They should make two models, one with a headphone jack, one without. Let's see which one will sell better...

I don't mind if they change the headphone jack, but I won't buy another iphone if the lightning port serves that function.

It will result in either cable fraying, or damage to the lightning port/cable connection from being pushed back and forward when you walk with the phone in your pocket.

Unplug the cable by pulling the hard plastic bit, not the cable itself because that is rather weak.

I don't use the headphone jack like I use to but so many people do. Using an adapter for regular headphones or an adapter to charge and listen at the same time would set people off.
But we will see. I love BT headphones but not all BT headphones sound good.

USB-C connector or riot.

I thought of this a year ago but to many issues scared me regarding the quality of cables used. I would like to see more devices use this standard before passing final judgment.

The clean Antenna lines and flush camera look WAY better than the crap design of 6 and 6S. Surprising Apple has so quickly fallen to such low design standards...its not just the iPhone, look at the ugly iPhone case, charging port of Magic Mouse 2 and Apple Pencil (.....and the Trashcan:p)

Sigh, Such a bad design that it's won so many awards. Camera was a technical hurdle. You even seen the video about the tech in the iPhone 6 Camera.

I'd agree with the case. I am sure they could have 'spread' the battery thinner across the back. Although it actually makes it very nice to hold.

Magic mouse 2 port... 2 mins charge lasts a day so it's a completely mute point. Or 2 hours for 3 months.

Cylinder mac. Depends on your point of view. I've made Hundreds of Thousands of Pounds from mine. Partly from being able to put it in a backpack and taking it with me.

What the hell are you doing to to them? Swinging them round your head? Feeding them to your Cats? We've got about 10 in the household. None have gone like that. even with kids using them.

So Otakara is basically saying NONE of the previous design rumors are true and that the iphone 7 will basically look exactly the same as the iPhone 6...except that the antenna bands across the back will disappear. Um....I think Otakara is wrong. The odd number update denotes a radical redesign. I expect some if not most of the recent rumors are true.

Glad to see Apple leading the way with innovations like stereo sound.

WHY is it that stereo speakers are such a big thing ON A PHONE? I can understand when working on an iPad, particularly a Pro, that to have a decent speaker system running in the background whilst doing other things can be a great thing to have. You're looking at the screen and experiencing stereo sound, pushed out over a wide area. Unless the iPhone's speakers can throw out discernable stereo sound in an area wide enough to be able to appreciate it, why does it need them? And do people really listen to an un-amplified iPhone to any great extent? If I listen to mine, I'm either using the earbuds or have it connected to a dock or speaker. More battery would be far more beneficial to me. Just sayin'...
