New Lightning port? What the hell? No!

There is no way Apple would change the lightning port this soon. I would be VERY surprised if they did so.

Edit: Misread the article. It states: "However, the site claims that the Lightning connector may be thinner than normal, though the Lightning port itself isn't changing."

Another port change? Apple sure know how to piss off their loyal customers!

more adapters.

Canning the 3.5mm jack AND reworking the Lightning port means apple will have to seriously wow me to get me to upgrade this year.

Not only will that require adapters or new headphones for 1-3 devices, it will require me to purchase anywhere from 2-6 additional charging cables.

Again, the next phone would have to bring something to the table that I don't think I can even imagine yet.

I have a feeling that many of you are so anxious to moan and groan and complain that you only see what you want to see and don't even bother to think or read before posting. Makes for a very entertaining but completely useless and unintelligent forum. I guess that's what you guys want.

And this is why I applauded Samsung for not going thinner with the S7, and putting a bigger battery in (and for leaving the headphone port).

This. If the iPhone 7 ends up like described in this article, I'd rather get the S7 myself. I need more battery and a preferably waterproof phone, not something that's thinner than the current models (which are almost too thin already).

ATTENTION MR READERS: the Lightning Port is not changing. The cutout is getting smaller. It will not effect your current cables or accessories, and you will still be able to use all of them.

Reading comprehension on the internet isn't so good these days. :)

Have you used a Galaxy device? The battery is atrocious. Had one, got rid of it.

So Apple is gonna have a iPhone SE, iPhone 7, iPhone 7+ and a iPhone 7 Pro... All with different specs... Wow, its gonna be their downfall.

Apple, We want same feature on all the phones

Yeah, because all the "speculation" and "rumors" are 100% true. :p

im on the fence. Id like the 5S (SE) form factor, but if iOS 10 makes better use of 3D touch, I would probably miss the feature. What to do?

WHY is it that stereo speakers are such a big thing ON A PHONE? I can understand when working on an iPad, particularly a Pro, that to have a decent speaker system running in the background whilst doing other things can be a great thing to have. You're looking at the screen and experiencing stereo sound, pushed out over a wide area. Unless the iPhone's speakers can throw out discernable stereo sound in an area wide enough to be able to appreciate it, why does it need them? And do people really listen to an un-amplified iPhone to any great extent? If I listen to mine, I'm either using the earbuds or have it connected to a dock or speaker. More battery would be far more beneficial to me. Just sayin'...
I listen to podcasts unamplified but not music. I've
Looks like its time to jump ship....
the new Galaxy S7actually looks interesting to me. No crap about the headphone jack and they brought back the SD slot. Leaving the IOS fold would be HARD though.

I don't mind if they change the headphone jack, but I won't buy another iphone if the lightning port serves that function.

It will result in either cable fraying, or damage to the lightning port/cable connection from being pushed back and forward when you walk with the phone in your pocket.

I still have my lightning cable from my iPhone 5. It doesn't look anything like that and I use it daily. WTF are you doing? Stop pulling it by the cable. Stop twisting/bending/chewing it while you use it. Some people really just DGF when it comes to things I guess.

I thought this as well when all my friends would complain to me about their lightning cables breaking (I was a late comer to the world of lighting in 2014), then I got my own and they just die. I've NEVER had a micro usb cable die... I've still got the one that came with my family's first digital camera back in 2005.

Funny. I use mine every day. It's like with millions of users Apple has to cater to multiple needs? Crazy right?

Very crazy :p and its not just like people can't choose to use bluetooth headphones at the moment or anything ;) obviously that will be impossible till the 3.5mm port is removed.

I am also an everyday user. I move between my phone, laptop and iPad using that same universal connection, and then any other device that I use that has a audio port.

yeah cuz the first thing that comes to mind when i look at the iPhone 6S is "OMG ITS SO FAT"

gimme water resistent with a screen that works with fingers under water

I haven't used Galaxy S7 yet. But it features bigger battery (3000mAh roughly). It should provide better battery life than S6.

It is worth to note that even with larger battery, thinner camera hump, SD card expansion and 3.5mm jack, Samsung managed only increased 1mm in thickness. I don't mind iPhone 7 gets 1mm thicker with bigger bettery and 3.5mm jack. But Apple continuing to choose thinner than improving battery life.

Why would that surprise you?

So if thats the new stuff for the iphone 7.IF we get a new lighting port and no audio in/out (I doubt they will change both of that in the same update). But if all that is true, Im gonna skip updating this year. That and the rumored event this march with absolutely nothing interesting to present, this doesnt sound like another amazing apple year.

This is why Trump is leading in the polls. Nobody bothers to pay attention to details, or takes the time to comprehend anything they read.

Or perhaps it's just that people wake up in the morning looking for an excuse to get angry at Apple.

The site claims that the Lightning port enclosure may be thinner than it currently is, but that it will still be fully compatible with current Lightning cables.

But do you know that it does have a better battery life? I think the OP's point was that Samsung and other Android manufacturers have been known in the past for throwing hardware specs at the fact that they don't do a very good job of optimizing their devices from a firmware/software/efficiency standpoint, and that no matter the power of the hardware they don't perform any better (and usually not as good as) the iPhone.

One could argue that Apple customers are not Samsung customers, and vice versa. Android users want what Apple can't and won't give them, which is why they favour Android phones over iPhones and iOS. Apple knows precisely what appeals to the majority of their user base and their focus is on keeping their customers happy and satisfied, not to engage in a spec-war with the competition.

There is no point in Samsung going the iPhone route and doing what Apple has done (removing sd-card slot, removable batteries etc) because the target user they are chasing has already chosen the iPhone (which never had these features to begin with). So it makes more sense to offer what the iPhone does not so you can at least still appeal to users who value those features like wireless charging which are not yet available on the iPhone.

Unfortunately for my use Bluetooth isn't an easy option. I plug my phone into a soundboard that my drums mix through so I can jam to music or record using garage band. Would it be the end of the world if the next iPhone couldn't do this? No, but it would be less convienant for me as I would have to use another device that I don't always have with me.

I have a bunch of lightning cables (about 6-7). I don't pull on any of them. Only two of my cables are fraying. One of them is the one I have plugged in on my desk at work. The other is plugged into my car charger. What's the one thing those two cables have in common that the other cables don't? I sometimes pick up my phone to look at the screen when it's plugged into them.

I don't even know what "Stop twisting/bending/chewing it while you use it." is supposed to mean, other than the same inane drivel that the Genius bar jackass said right before I publicly and loudly chewed him out the last time I made Apple give me a new free cable.

I should not have to plug in my phone into a charger, lay it down like it has nitro-glycerin in it and never touch it again until it's fully charged. Just because my phone needs to be charged during the day does not mean I shouldn't have access to it for the couple of hours it sits on my desk, because Apple can't design a cable that will put up with normal wear and tear.

Plugged into my charger right next to my lightning cable on my desk at work is a 30 pin connector that I have for an old iPhone 4 that I use for testing. I handle it just as much during the day when its charging as I do my iPhone 6S, and that old 30 pin cable still looks like new.

Apple is a great company, and makes great products. But when you become an apologist for them in the face of a real design and quality issue you look like a sheep.

I was being sarcastic in my post - I meant that people go on about the 3.5mm port like it stops them from using bluetooth, where as in reality having both gives the best of both worlds. I hate bluetooth audio, and tam also int he boat of finding a 3.5mm port convenient.

I can't wait to see them get rid of the 3.5mm port.

I hope the disaster is big enough that the board fires Timmy.

Funny how the more Samsung adds new and innovative features, the more core functionality Apple takes away.
