It will be useful. This isn't behavior that requires a shift in consumer habits.

The bionic processor and improved graphics processing is something Apple can silently do in software. It will be heavily utilised as iOS marches forward. People on older hardware will feel the pain of being without it.

People with older hardware will buy new hardware in the future.

It's just silly to buy an A11 iPhone 8 today in anticipation of iOS 13 having improved Siri. Consumers don't want to spend $699 on an old form factor. They want to see a difference today.

And today, in terms of performance, there's hardly any real-world difference between iPhone 7 and 8.

I’m pretty sure the 7 outselling 8 is purely the X. Most people don’t see this as the same design for 4 years because it isn’t. Similar yes. But the X has such an appeal.

Agreed. I think it's the X. And the 8 does look exactly like a 6 from 4 years ago from the front, or if you use a case, which most people do, so it's just kind of boring.

It isn’t outselling the 8. The headline was clickbait. 9 days of sales, even at launch, are not comparable to 91, particularly when the 8 wasn’t the “showcase” phone this year.

Every iPhone has looked similar form the front since creation. Minus the X...

8 has a more fragile back than 7 which is metal. I am considering returning my X for several reasons - one being the fragile nature of the glass back. I do like that my iPhone 7+ is not as fragile and I remember all those shattered iPhone 4/4S back panels.

I guess I'm baffled by your post. Because all phones are considered fragile, it just depends on the nature of the drop. If you drop the iPhone 7 or X, there's no guarantee what will happen to the display or anything else for both phones.

For example: I could drop an iPhone X and iPhone 7 from the same distance and on the same surface, and the iPhone 7 breaks, but my iPhone X does not. Does the make the iPhone 7 any less durable? There are too many variables based on what happens to a phone during an accident. For the Majority, they use cases anyways to protect their devices.

Simple, the price is much cheaper, and the iPhone 8 does not have many new features over the 7.

If you want wireless charging, sure get the 8, but other then that and a slightly improved camera or CPU, the 7 is a better buy.

The CPu isn’t slightly better, It’s about 70% faster as well as the GPU being about 30% faster. I feel those are pretty high advancements. It’s tough trying to gain performance like that regularly.

But for the average user won’t fee those differences, and most people have more concern about other parts of the phone, so just like you said, nothing else really stands out.

32gb wasn't working for me, so I purchased a 256gb ip7 at Best Buy for $200 less than a 256gb ip8.

Had Apple actually done something worthy of spending the extra money (like a 1080p display and 3gb of RAM) I would have had no problem spending the extra money.

My 6+ was getting really sluggish due to lack of RAM. Wasn’t too keen on the X, so the choice came down to the 7+ vs. the 8+. I decided to give the 8+ a shot first just to try it. I figured I could always return it and get the 7+ instead if the extra features failed to impress me. I’m glad I picked the 8+. I love the true tone feature. Makes it a lot easier on my eyes, so less eye fatigue when reading on the phone. I’m also loving the wireless charging. I tend to put my phone in one specific spot when at home. I placed a small cheap Samsung pad there. It’s only a 5w charging pad, but that’s fine and there’s always the 12w iPad charger if I’m in a hurry. I used to forget plugging in my phone and hated having to unplug or plug it back in if I needed it for something. Now I no longer have to worry about it. Those two features alone was worth the extra $$$ but I sure don’t mind the better CPU/GPU and camera. 256GB is totally overkill though. I’m never going to be able to use it all. Wish they had kept a cheaper 128GB option.

I ended up getting a 128GB 7, upgrading from a silver 128GB 6+.
I got a 256GB 8 for my son, but figured I’ll get next year’s X when the kinks have been worked out.
Went with Jet Black and an Apple black leather case on the 7. Late to the party but I think it looks great. Performance is much improved over the 6+, and basically 1/2 the price of the X.

Boring features...my wife got one through a new job but had upgraded her 6 to 8 a week prior. I told her to put it in a drawer because it's not even worth it to reinstall all my apps and stuff. Too much work for basically the same phone; I don't find any joy in iphone gaming so I could give 2 #($#s about a faster cpu.

The 8 was a giant big MEH

This is why I chose the 7 over the 8 when upgrading from my 6 a few weeks ago.

Is there screen difference between the both?

The iPhone 8 is not much more expensive but is much more capable with the bionic processor technology, graphics performance, huge camera improvements, better display, more battery life, refined design, etc.

So cheap out if you want. But don't moan when your iPhone 7 slows down next year as Apple targets iOS 12 towards taking advantage of all this awesome new hardware in the latest and greatest iPhones. You really want to get on board the bionic processor train ASAP.
You need to go to the Apple site and do a comparison side by side of the 8 and the 7. There is not much difference. Better display? It's the same but with true tone on the 8. Same battery life. Refined design? A glass back, more weight and muted non appealing colors. Camera isn't a huge improvement and you can buy a 128gb on the 7 for less than the 64gb 8. If you want to wait it out for next years offerings, then I'm sure the 7's A10 processor and the same GB of Ram as the 8 can handle it. Cheap out? No, I would call that a smart choice.

A jump from the 6 to the 8 is pretty big. Much faster processor, wireless charging, better camera, bigger and faster storage. Who cares if it looks the same? Get the gold if you want it to look different.

The iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 LCD displays are virtually indistinguishable and share the same
Characteristics with the exception Of True-Tone display.
