It isn’t outselling the 8. The headline was clickbait. 9 days of sales, even at launch, are not comparable to 91, particularly when the 8 wasn’t the “showcase” phone this year.

Those 91 days are at the tail end of the first year life of the iPhone 7. You think sales of these phones increase linearly with time? No.

I decided to return the X and planned on buying a 128GB 7 Plus but ended up with a 64GB 8 Plus. I bought a gently used phone but if buying new IMO the 8 Plus is a no brainer for $50 more, unless you really need the extra storage.

$50 is a great deal for wireless charging, true tone, same chip and graphics as the flagship X, and almost the same camera system except for no optical image stabilization on the second lens. Aside from storage why would anyone buy the 7 Plus new?

You have to bear in mind this year usually tends to be a s year.

Usually 6 and 7 sell more than the 5s or 6s. There was no 7s this year and lot of people usually tend to be on two year contract.

Is there screen difference between the both?
Nope, there's only minor updates that are in the 8 which are not in the 7. The biggest update is wireless charging, but if that's not something which is important then the 7 may be a better buy imo

the problem is that we've not seen much updates to the phone since the iPhone 6, at least that's my opinion. We've been witnessing a stagnant phone design these past few years. I think the iPhone X is what represents the biggest improvements to the iPhone in many many years.

No they don’t, but that’s where understanding that the 8 wasn’t the marquee phone this year comes in. It didn’t get the typical launch sales, but still managed to be Apple’s best selling phone line at launch and at least through the launch of the X.

The X obviously plays a huge factor. Once you see the new design, it's tough to spend a ton on an older looking phone. But obviously the X isn't for everyone and they want to stay with iOS so there are options, which is great. You can find really good deals on an iPhone 7 that basically has all the same performance and features of the 8, just without wireless charging. Makes it a much easier price to swallow / better value. I do like how Apple has hit every price point though and gives a lot of people good options to get into the iOS ecosystem.

It’s cheaper.

I think people on Mac rumours forget that not everyone is a techie. Or cares about specs.

Average Joe goes to the Apple store looking for a new phone. Sees the 7, 8 and X.

Wow the X looks cool how much is it? Oh £1k no thanks.

What about these two? One is £700 and one is £550? They look exactly the same. Side my side they seem the same. They run the same iOS.

So what in the world is going to make average joe spend £150 more on an 8? Absolutely nothing. That’s what.

I guess I was trying to get at iPhones ordered directly Apple will not be reflected. I believe Apple did say the i8 is outselling the i7.
It probably is in Apple stores, but people who buy there do so for the experience I would say. You don’t go there for the best deals or to buy older devices because they are available on better deals elsewhere. Apple Stores probably account for less than 20% of the overall sales here as carriers and Carphone Warehouse are the major suppliers and seem to be more free offering their figures.

You don't, you buy used, especially if you're on the fence with the X and want to wait for the 2nd gen X next year.

I picked up a used 128GB iPhone 7 Plus for $575 and it comes with Apple Care. This year is a REALLY BAD year to buy a new iPhone. The X is overpriced and the 8 isn't a justifiable purchase.

If one can afford it, the X is a great buy. It just depends on the individual and how much they value the purchase. For me, it was $2 more a month to upgrade. Easy decision.

The CPu isn’t slightly better, It’s about 70% faster as well as the GPU being about 30% faster. I feel those are pretty high advancements. It’s tough trying to gain performance like that regularly.

Apple says the efficiency cores of the A11 are 70% faster than the efficiency cores of the A10. The performance cores are 25% faster.

Geekbench has the A10 at 3445/5756 and the A11 at 4212/10057. That’s a huge jump in multi core but less than 25% in single core.

The real question is real world use, though. Much like Intel’s core series of processors, apple’s A series chips have far more power than is needed for any everyday task except gaming, so how does an A11 actually make my experience better?

I stand corrected about CPU changes.

I guess I wasn’t trying to make it seem that the new phones were better because of more power the CPUs give. I even stated most people wouldn’t notice the difference.

As far as how power would make the experience better, it would vary on app usage i suppose. Just like how if you want to game at higher framerates then the intel chips would be more desired than AMDs current offerings.

Since gaming is becoming a growing market in the mobile world, perhaps there is some benefit for a more powerful SoC? So that could be some real world difference for those users.

Or if maybe who wanting to render a movie faster in iMovie on iOS, then you would feel the difference there (although it’s plenty fast enough as is, and I don’t know anyone that really uses iMovie on their phone) or any application that can take advantage of the power.

And the only other thing I could think of for the power would be either filming at 4K 60fps or 1080p 240fps. The power would be needed to handle those.

So I guess it comes down to what you do with your phone. If the three examples don’t apply then yes, there is no benefit like you mentioned.

I did it too and many more doing it the iPhone X turn out too small the 5.8" is more close to the 4.7" and I think it 's not ready yet as finished product sorry but thats the way I see it
