iOS 10.2 fixed all the standby battery drain issues that I had with 3 iPhone 7's and one 7 plus. It certainly is a relief.
just to clarify. You received new iphone with 10.2 preloaded? or had a phone that had the issue then updated to 10.2 and it fixed itself. thnx

I had to update to 10.2 myself. Again I had to go through 3 7's and one 7 Plus and they all had the standby drain issue. After updating to 10.2 the problem was fixed on both the 7 and 7 Plus. I can now get 12-13 hours of standby on both after charging to 100 percent and they won't even drop one percent.

Hi.

Recently I bought a iPhone 7 with 10.1 iOS version and I realized that it had a very weird battery consumption.

The first thing I did was update iOS to 10.2 and did reset all settings, but the battery behavior not changed.

Yesterday I did a long test and I would like to hear an opinion from you if you find it normal or really the consumption is weird.

How I tested:
Did a DFU restore and reinstall 10.2;
Restored it as new;
Not logged in iCloud;
Not restored old backup;
Not installed any apps (i. e. only native apps installed);
Charged up to 100%;
I turned off Raise to Wake and Auto Brightness;
Put the phone in airplane mode;
Unplugged charger;
And went to sleep;

Result:

- After 6h 39minutes (standby time)(see attach)
- 4 minutes In Use (see attach)
- Battery decrease 5%

In my humble option this is too much for a device that stayed 100% standby with all the default settings, no icloud sync and only standard application installed.

For comparison purposes I did the same test with iPhone 6s (iOS 10.2), 6 (IOS 10.2) and iPhone 5 (iOS 10.2) and all of them got 100% battery.

Damn I thought 10.2 had fixed that. You may have to just return and get a new one at this point. Seems like you dod everything possible already

Have you also gone thru a few power cycles yet?

Yep.

If I'm not wrong about 5 power cycles

Make a note of your battery percentage and turn the phone off, wait 7 hours then turn it back on. If the battery still drains almost as much while switched off don't waste any more time trying to fix it because it's a hardware fault.

Hi deano,

I'm doing this right now. 30 minutes left to finish the scheduled time.

my iPhone 7 Plus seems to have a strange issue as well ... standby and usage time is always the same. it claims i have been using it for 12 hours with 37% remaining while i was at work during that time. obviously that cant be right. just restored it and will test it again over night

That is usually an easy fix. Just restart the phone and you should be good to go. Most of us have the issue where it drains and there is under 10 min usage

Seems like my iPhone 7 also has this problem. I usually turn off my iPhone over night, and it loses 1-2%, which is normal I think. But I forgot to turn it off yesterday. Lost 14% battery over night in standby, that's ridiculous.

No worries ..Let me know how much your battery drops while switched off.
I had to exchange my launch day 7 for this problem.

Update:
OMG!!!

After 10 hours, 24 minutes completely off my iPhone lost 11% battery... again.. completely off!!! (before turn off I put it in Airplane Mode)

Why are location services always seem to be in use?

I don't know why.
As explained, I kept default settings during tests.
I just activated airplane mode and turn off device.
Have you checked location services in settings to see what's using that?

Yep, I checked. The services that most use gps were: Location-Based Alerts, Wi-Fi Networking and Compass Calibration.
But in this case the device has been turned off all time, i.e, theoretically all features/service should be turned off.
The purpose of this test is to see the battery life with all the default settings and the device turned off.

Right, I understand that part. Perhaps something's off with the battery itself?

If it's draining 1% per hour switched off there's some kind of hardware fault. I would take it to an Apple Store and explain your phone has excessive standby drain and it also drains while switched off so it's not a software or app issue. They should give you a replacement if the battery shows ok on their diagnostics due to them not knowing how to fix the issue (could be any internal part draining it if nothing shows on diagnostics).

My launch day 7 had this problem as well and they exchanged mine in store after I explained it even drains while switched off. No faults were present on diagnostics!

Did you get this sorted? I've got the same problem

Well damn. Not even a week later and it is happening again

Edit: just realized i quoted myself ... too early. Oops
If it was ok after the restore but the problem Has returned after a few days using your phone there's a good chance it's one of your installed apps that's causing the problem.

I would close all apps in the app switcher then restart the phone, if the problem persists I would try a hard restart, if the problem still persists I would reinstall the iOS again this time setting up as a new phone as the problem may have transferred over from your backup.

Coming from an iPhone 6+ with its beastly battery, I was expecting the 7+ to be at least as good when it comes to battery life. However, ever since I got it, I haven't been able to get 10 hours of usage out of it(which I got on the iPhone 6+ all the time).

While I use the phone it doesn't seem to drain the battery as much, but a lot of the times when it is on Standby, it drains almost as much battery as when I use it.

Now before someone tells me to restore as new, I already did that, turned off Background App refresh and some Location services but it didn't seem to help.

Also, I've tried to see how much the battery would drain overnight after unplugging it before going to sleep and not using it at all(the phone was also on DND, so the screen didn't turn on). Considering the fact that it usually takes me 25-30 minutes of usage to drain the first percentage(100%-99%), I think it should've stayed at 100% the whole night, at least when it was on Airplane mode.

Anyway, I have a few screenshots showing off overnight drain while having the radios on, while having Airplane mode on and another one after a whole day of usage, which is the best battery life I got out of this thing.

Am I overestimating how long my 7 Plus should last? The reason I buy the Plus version is for the battery life, yet the battery life is not even impressive. Where are the days where an iPhone wouldn't even drain battery overnight(or would drain something like 1%)?

TL;DR: I'm getting about half the usage times of my old 6 Plus with my new 7 Plus and it drains battery while in standby and not doing much.

It should and does stay on 100% over night when left on airplane mode. I think your phone needs to replaced by apple. They did change mine when I had the same problem with my 7+. Good luck.

Agreed. Sounds like it is app related.

Have you looked at the battery use after a night on airplane mode to see what app is using the battery

Reading all of these posts makes me think you definitely have a hardware problem. I have fully charged my Iphone 7 and left it unplugged in standby overnight on several occasions and in the morning 9-10 hours later I am still at 100% every time.
