How efficient is it though? Is 30%+ power still lost due to the inductive process? I can imagine Apple citing this as a reason not to implement it. Which may, or may not, be an excuse dependent on one's opinion of Apple...
I'm not sure what you mean. Do customers care about power lost due to inductive process? Don't they just want their phones to charge faster and without wires?

True. Then again, the iPhone would still have Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and other means of connectivity. Not to mention using the Lightning port itself for headphones.

So, you mean like the floppy disk?
The wireless connection kills the battery. Main reason to despise it, in addition to need to buy a new headphone set or an annoying dongle/adapter.
Media like floppy or optical discs were replaced by media of higher speed and capacity, nothing there like this to Improvement for listening to music and audio.
Will they offer any improved audio format to bundle it into the improvement?

Actually it does. It's just you can't come up with a good reason, but that's on you.

Removable storage has a negatieve impact on design and software.
How does it affect design? I can see that it may affect software.

They'll be happy there are no wires, and then complain they can't use it while charging. Because you can't use it while it's charging, unless it is wired. And that makes wireless a non starter for some people.

You have to design around the removable storage if you want it to be in there.

Why do you hate it when Apple gives you choices? Just pick the higher storage space option. If the complaint is about price, then complain about that, not 16B.
So if Apple comes out with the iPhone 7 with a 4 GB, 8 GB and the other usual sizes...you would see this as a good move by Apple. Since they give you more choices right?

Why would they complain that they can't use it while charging? They would still have the option to charge through the lightning cable. So what you said doesn't make much sense.

Design wise the iPhone could look the same. Place it where the sim card goes like the one x. I understand internally things will have to move around, but it would not affect the exterior design.

I know Apple would never add micro SD and it is not a big deal to me since I don't use much storage anyway. (32gb is all I need).

Except 16gb is usable. Let's not pretend otherwise.
32gb is also useable, so why not just make that the minimum? Wouldn't that be better?

I can safely assume that if you interview every single 16gb iPhone owner, 75% or more would say they would prefer 32gb

I hope 256GB is true. But I have my doubts, at least for this yer. It would eat into iCloud usage.

If Apple continues the blatant money grab that is the 16GB base model I will abandon iPhone and go to the Nexus line out of principle alone.

Way to stick up for your principles! It's wonderful that you have such strong ethical principles, and are focused on one of the truly greatest challenges facing humanity today. We should all follow your lead, and take such a stand on the 16GB issue.

LOL

But since you mention upsell... 16GB --> 64GB is quite a good deal.

It's $100... or a few dollars more per month on a payment plan.

Many carriers now offer device payment plans instead of subsidized contracts. Here is Verizon's for instance:

$27.08/mo - iPhone 6s 16GB
$31.24/mo - iPhone 6s 64GB
$35.41/mo - iPhone 6s 128GB

Are you really gonna cry over an additional $4.16 per month for the next model up?
This is the sad part of what has become of Apple iPhone business. All current and future offerings are pushing the crop of new Apple customers towards a subscription model that is kind of semi-successful for them:
Monthly payments for a 16GB iPhone
Run out of storage.
Subscribe to Apple Music.
Run out of iCloud back up space.
subscribe to iCloud storage.
Run out of data, move to the carrier plan.
New iOS update. iPhone no longer works.
Get the new model with upgrade fee subscription pre-paid, and get a rush feel of being ahead, by paying more money.
New iPhone model and nothing else works: headphone and audio cables, charging car adapter, the case, etc...
Upgrade everything and continue overpaying.
Push beats crappy offerings to existing Apple customers.
New tv streaming services, and only works with the new hardware...
Start over.

Yes, I'd prefer 32GB at the same price. In fact, I would prefer 256GB even more, at the same price. And, I would prefer 512GB at half the price even more than that. However, I can live with 16GB at the current price; but I cannot live with a higher entry price just to get the extra GB.

32/64/128 this fall. 32/128/256 next year.

Also don't see them making larger batteries. iPhone will inevitably be thinner come fall. Apple will instead focus their attention to fast charging to combat that.

Why to some people feel the need to defend every single decision Apple makes, even the ones that don't make sense. In terms of a headphone port, what the heck will be better than a 3.5mm jack when we all listen to compressed music anyway? It's not gonna sound better? It's more about the quality of the music file and the headphones you use in this case.
No need to defend Apple. They haven't gotten rid of the port yet, and this is a rumor site, and pointing out that Apple has gotten rid of seemingly "industry standard" items is the way that we move forward. That's the point I was making, nothing more or less.

For Apple to add 32gb it would cost them $5. So you're saying if they passed this additional expense to the customer (to keep their margins the same) and added $5 to the price of 16gb for the 32gb you would not spend the extra $5?

Companies are out to make a profit and will go with the smallest usable amount. Also, obviously people will always say they want more for the same amount of money even if they'll never use it. If you offered a person one plate of food or two, they'll take two even if they'll only eat one.

The iPhone 7 could be the best phone on the market in 2016. But I still wont buy it if it doesn't include a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, regardless whether or not the lightning port can give higher quality audio.

Fully agree. There is no way I'm ditching my $100s of headphones because Apple wants a thinner phone (iPhone is plenty thin enough) and thus abandon the standard audio interface for 99.99% of devices. Dumping the 3.5mm audio jack is a very stupid idea.

I can not see how they could do this without having an established and well accepted alternative audio interface which as of today is not the case.

People don't want wireless charging? Because you're the voice for the majority?
I personally don't care for wireless charging but there are people that do. I actually was just correcting someone that said wireless charging was inefficient. I mentioned that the note 5 charged faster wirelessly than the 6s using a wire. The note 5 has a much larger battery too. I then said for whoever wants wireless charging wouldn't they just want it to charge fast and without wires? They wouldn't really care about how inefficient it is as long as it is fast.

If you offered 16gb owners to spend $5 more to get 32gb (what it would cost Apple to use 32gb), don't you think most would? Apple would still keep their margins as before.

If they do release a 256gb option, I'll laugh if it's 16, 128 and 256 as the options. That would be so absurd.

No, because I watch people using their phones while they charge.

Also, yeah, tell people it takes 30% more power than being wired and they'd ask why you can't just charge faster with a cord.

One wonders just how much extra profit they make from the Plus-sized phones at equivalent storage capacities.

They're not that much more considering the larger body, larger battery, larger screen, better camera etc.

Why then does Apple seemingly push people towards this phablet when for a long time they argued (with a reasonable degree of logic) that 4" was the perfect screen size?

Rather than letting the market decide naturally on form factor, Apple frequently decides to push people one way or the other, and for the phones it's up to the plus-sized version.

How? Well you need this version for adequate battery life, 1080p pixels and optical image stabilisation to name a few. All things that could easily have been put in regular 4.7" version, albeit thicker than the Plus phone but at least that should take care of lens protrusion and wobble-gate.

The cost of the iPhone 6s is a joke when you consider its woeful battery. if Apple doesn't get treatment for its anorexia I'm going to stick with the 5s and refuse iOS updates so they don't have a chance to cripple my device. This phone still does everything I need reasonably well.

If Apple does do away with the standard headphone jack, it'd be a bold move. But I'm sure they'll have a solution for being able to charge the iPhone while listening to headphones. Of course, there's always wireless headphones too.
