iPhone 7 Plus Said to Have 256GB Option and Larger 3,100 mAh Battery

Que?

For reference, here's storage configurations as they originally launched:

Code:
Year Min Storage Max Storage RAM
iPhone 2007 4 8 128 MB
iPhone 3G 2008 8 16 128 MB
iPhone 3GS 2009 16 32 256 MB
iPhone 4 2010 16 32 512 MB
iPhone 4S 2011 16 64 512 MB
iPhone 5 2012 16 64 1 GB
iPhone 5S 2013 16 64 1 GB
iPhone 6 2014 16 128 1 GB
iPhone 6S 2015 16 128 2 GB

So, RAM doubles every 2-3 years (not 4-5), an increase of the minimum storage is overdue, and an increase of the maximum storage is at least plausible.

If Apple had kept doubling the base storage as they did for the first three years, the base for the iPhone 7 would be 2TB. 2TB, 4TB, 8TB sounds about right to me.

I look forward to it.

You don't understand. Everyone needs more storage even if they don't use more.

Am I arguing it right?

Why do you think 'everyone needs' more storage ?
Correctly im having 8GB free out of 16GB... no matter what will be the base storage model in the future, i will get it coz i dont need more. i just hope they wont push up the prices in the process.

Minimum storage space higher as 16Gb is only usable for people that use the camera, have an app or two installed and a have a couple mp3's. But what about the people that use their iPhone just to show other people they have an iPhone? What are they going to do with all that useless storage?

LOL

But since you mention upsell... 16GB --> 64GB is quite a good deal.

It's $100... or a few dollars more per month on a payment plan.

Many carriers now offer device payment plans instead of subsidized contracts. Here is Verizon's for instance:

$27.08/mo - iPhone 6s 16GB
$31.24/mo - iPhone 6s 64GB
$35.41/mo - iPhone 6s 128GB

Are you really gonna cry over an additional $4.16 per month for the next model up?

It cost's apple about $15 to go from 16GB to 64GB, how is $100 a good deal? I got some packed oranges you can buy, 16 for 10$ / 64 for 110$. You can pay monthly using a plan, it is a good deal.

While I understand your point I must say that I do not agree. As other people have stated, just because you may find that 16gb is not enough in an iPhone it does not mean the people think the same way. Thee are many people who want 16gb and for who that is more than enough. If you want more than 16gb then purchase more storage. As for Apple offering, say 64gb as a minimum storage option for the same price as the 16gb version they would not do that yet because they seem to make quite a bit of Money from the upsell. Yes it may seem mean of them though they are a business not a charity. What concerns me more is the every clattering shouts of higher storage capacities. I find that 128gb is far more than I need and I am a Computer and Tech geek as well as using my Phone loads for Photographs etc. Still I find it hard to believe that Apple would increase the storage but I guess it is possible and probably would help them sell more iPhone 7 plus's.

I'm confused, can you elaborate on why you are concerned with the talk of increased storage? I might be missing something.

Surely if you can see the need for 16gb based on 'people are different' you can't then say it is not necessary to increase storage based on your usage regardless of industry/field.

Apple will at some point be forced drop 16gb on the phones just as Bill gates had to, with us: heading into 4k territory (as a standard), live photo's, this rumoured new high quality audio format along with software updates etc 16gb won't cut it.

The question is what will the trigger be: Will they upgrade to 32gb etc when that storage format is the space equivalent of 16gb today, Manufacturers ending 16gb or when they can bulk buy 32gb etc at the price or less than they pay for 16gb now.

Not a great analogy since the customer will just buy more packs of 16 oranges. Try buying more memory for your iPhone... There's no way round it.

Nobody "wants" the 16GB iPhone but they buy it because it's the cheapest one. Then they start to run into problems due to storage limitations but they deal with it because they're too uneducated to realize what's really going on. The 16GB iPhone is for people who don't really understand smartphones or by all means who couldn't care less about keeping things on their phones. The base iPhone could be 32GB or 4GB and people wouldn't know the difference as long as the phone functioned. They'll deal with it because they have the newest iPhone to show their friends.

Will we see a 16GB, 128GB, and 256GB lineup for iPhone 7? That's just laughable......

2016: Bring on the iPhone 7 rumours!

But I have to call BS on the 256GB. The iPad Pro doesn't even have it yet. Look how 128GB spread across iOS devices:
Full-sized iPad: February 2013
iPad Mini: November 2013
iPhone: September 2014
iPod Touch: July 2015
It goes to the bigger devices first, then spreads to the smaller ones.
Plus, I don't see why storage is such a necessity in a phone.

I'd have to agree, I think we would likely see 256GB in the iPad Pro first.

Good point, if not the Ipad than maybe the Ipad pro initially.

To increase profits and margins apple will be focusing on adding more features to the 7+ over the regular 7.
Perhaps they will even remove the physical homebutton on the 7+ and use a sort of 3d touch virtual homebutton for the 7+. And they will reduce bezels on the 7+. This way they will trim the physical dimensions of the 7+ vs the regular 7.
Perhaps they will even add multitasking/split screen to the + plus models.

Apple will be betting big on the plus models to keep the average selling prices of the iphones higher and to maintain margins.

The 7+ will be their key driver to increase revenue, not the regular 7.
A 7+ with roughly the same physical dimensions(but a little wider) as a iphone 6(s) will be the main reason for owners of a iphone 6(s) to upgrade to a 7 plus.
If apple will just release an upgraded iphone 7 and 7 plus with slightly reduced physical dimensions(shrink bezels, etc) that is slightly thinner, lighter and with some upgraded specs, a lot of customers won' t see the need to upgrade to the 7 over the 6(s).

Mark my words: Apple will be betting big on the 7+ (Or 7 pro) to outsell the regular iphone 7( or 7 air). It is the only way to increase iphone revenue and to create another upgrade cycle.

I would have bought a 6s+ over the 6s, but the physical size of the plus made me buy a 6s.

16gb = never purchase another apple product again. I've already transitioned off all their software and iCloud features to make the switch as easy as possible if it comes up. Tim Cook loves to brag about quarterly results yet still puts in 16gb as if its a cost saving measure for people when its really about apple getting their high margins as much as possible. so no more supporting a greedy company for me. Android OS is near par with features and even surpassed in some cases, so its not as much a worry these days.

I'm most excited about the hidden antenna bands. Two years of eyesore has been enough.

Free at last, free at last...

We all know why Apple keeps 16GB it's to make more money.

Cookies.......

Say I sell cookies.
I want you to buy a packet of cookies, 20 in a pack for 5 dollars.
I want to also be able to advertise that I have cookies for sale from 2 dollars (cheap huh!)

but for those 2 dollars you only get 5 cookies.

So you go to the store. See 5 cookies for 2 dollars, but for 5 dollars you get 20 of them.
You think about it and decide on, we will spend another 3 dollars to get the pack of 20 as the pack of 5 probably may not be enough.

So thanks to my clever marketing I have got 5 dollars from you instead of 2 dollars.

The cookies cost me very little to make in reality so it's win win for me.

What kind of cookies we talking about?

It does not even sound like something to question. If someone wants or needs 64GB-128GB-256GB it is as simple as they likely have a lot of data, future proofing, just in case etc.... Some people hang on to their phones for awhile. Even in 2009 I went with 32GB just in case (good idea as well)

I remember back in the day I'd go into best buy looking for the largest phone or tablet and the weasel sales guy would be like "we're out of the higher capacity, why would you need it. most people are never even use up the 16 or 32 gb model..." People in these forums used to question the need all the time.

640k is the legend. Though actually there's no proof that he ever really said it.

and nevermind the fact that it was true at the time. the problem is the more storage that becomes mainstream, applications directly correlate to whatever capacity is "standard" at the time. It's like paying rent always seems to be directly correlated to how much you earn. At the time floppys were around, Office only took up a few mb of data, now that mega gigabites are standard, Office takes up 20 GB of space. When multi-terribytes are standard, I'm sure Office will go up to 100s of GB.... I'm using office just as an example.
