So what's my best option in that case? Leave a note that says to leave it in the office where someone will sign for it?
In my UPS profile I have a permanent release that says leave at the front door.. IDK how much this is taken into account. I also plan to do the Apple release when it is available to me. They left a macbook air on my door step all day a few months ago, so here's hoping I don't have to be there lol. My neighborhood is very quiet.

Okay so i'm an anxious newbie, and first off let me say these forums have been VERY helpful. So forgive me if I don't know what i'm doing/where i'm supposed to be posting.
I was able to preorder my At&t iPhone 7Plus Jet Black 128GB at 2:50am EST on 9/9/16 successfully and my CC was charged shortly after. I was given a "Estimated Shipping Date" of 10/13-10/20. On the MyAtt website I see it says preparing for shipment.
When I track on UPS by order number (and all the tricks) it doesn't find a shipment, and the same goes for FedEx. -_-
I've had one successful attempt trying to search by reference and it says a package was scanned out in the US on 9/13, and went to NC, and now in Louisville, KY. Delivery is expected today by the end of the day on 9/15 (Which gives me reason to believe it's not my phone).
Can someone shed any light on whats going on? I can't seem to track it, except that one in UPS by reference.

If you have an ESD of 10/13-10/20 then you most likely won't find anything now. Maybe in the next 2 or 3 weeks.
I mean preparing for shipment sounds like it is exactly that, but i don't know AT&T well. Louisville is where most of the UPS phones are now, but it's also a UPS hub. Check the weight on the package if you can.
Do keep in mind that if your iphone is gone, you will have to chase down your credit card for a refund. Apple and UPS wont cover your lost since you signed the release form.
Another thing is you are trusting the UPS driver. Meaning that he or she could have just kept your iPhone and said he left it in your front door. I would just pay the $5 (if you not a UPS member) and pick it up at a local UPS store or the distribution center.
Also, even if Apple do cover your lost, you wont be getting your replacement till mid October or early November due to back order.

So lame. What's the point in doing the release if the carrier will have the OPTION to the leave package...?

Apple has made special arrangements with carriers to allow you to pre-sign a form and leave it at your door. The carrier will then have the option to leave the package at your designated location without someone being there to sign for it."
Just got my Apple Store notification about phone being shipped. I officially have a tracking number now, but phone is still in Kentucky
There is really no point of a pre-sign form. It is up to the driver 100%. The reason for that is every house/apartment or business is different. If the driver thinks it is unsafe to leave the package, he will come back and re-deliver again at a later time. Or the drive may take the package back to distribution. Again, you can simply handwrite a note and tape the thing in your front door, it would work the same.
To the other poster that did signed the release form, this is what you are signing. If someone took your iPhone, its not the carrier or Apple's responsibility. Call your police department and credit card. Hope you use Amex. Most Amex has 60 days against theft. Just need a police report and they will refund you 100%. And no, I don't work for Amex. Just a very happy customer.

Well as I had predicted, mine has been sitting there in Kentucky since late Monday night and just got the customs check. So it did indeed stick around for 3 days. This is what happened last year as well. One year my phone stayed tin Kentucky until the Friday of release day and still got back to me on the left coast i time. The time difference helped of course, but somehow they get the job done!
Ok, no action on my order. Was just wondering if it was due to me selecting the free shipping option.
Nice! i pre ordered also. i finished around 15min after and the date by then was mid october. I heard all jet black phones went to pre orders and none will be available on launch day
I heard the same thing that's really stupid on apples part because I bet everyone waiting in line wants the new jet black
