It comes with the dongle. For free. Free.
LOL. There is no such thing as free. Even if you buy your Mac secondhand and dowload the lastest OS at no cost to you, the cost was built in to the hardware for the person that purchased it first.
The Dongle you have paid for.

There was room in there to fit flash support in there too.....

Look guys. Yes - they could have fit one in there but they chose not to. Why? Yes it saves a bit of space and yes it makes waterproofing a tad easier - but you're all still missing the big point.

The real reason they didn't put it in there is to strong arm the rest of the industry into focusing on wireless tech, otherwise they will just sit on their laurels as they have been doing for years because the jack is "good enough".

Thing is I don't want "good enough", I want better than that, and wireless will very soon be the better solution, and now Apple is forcing it that transition will happen even faster.

This has happened many times over the decades, as soon as Apple drops something the rest of the world rushes to fill the gap it has made, and every time without fail, given a couple of years to sort itself out, that gap has been filled with something better than was there previously.

There is an entire empty gap on the top of the phone where to keep a headphone jack.

Can anyone tell of there is an InvenSense gyroscope in there? No mention in the teardown on a gyroscope at all especially the brand.

Such courage... A plastic bumper covering the fake speaker where the headphone jack should be. ;)

Would you rather have a water run in it? Because I don't! And certainly I don't miss the ancient 3.5mm a bit.

man, this taptic engine is huge. i wonder if it'll ever fit into the iphone se even if they drop the headphone jack on it, too.

Do people not understand how business works? Apple owns their lightning port technology. Removing the headphone jack FORCES more $ in royalties, right to their coffers. New headphones, dongles, adapters, etc. will be made, and Apple will receive $$$ on each and every one of those sales. Let's not be naive here - clearly there was space for the jack. They chose not to include it for false and misleading reasons, and I for one will continue to pray that it blows up in their faces.

Now you're just being silly. If Samsung can waterproof it, surely Apple can do it too. Just because something has been used for a long time does not make it bad. My headphones are much better than those Beats Apple sells and they'll last longer too.

It's certainly an annoyance, but at least it's only that. I'll still get to use my superior headphones and you'll get to use yours.

There probably was a space for the ancient 3.5 jack, there probably wasn't. Good on Apple for removing it. And hopefully the rest of lazy industry does the same sooner rather then later and improve the wireless technology rather then using an old 100 years technology over and over. And you are right. it's gonna blow into Apples face so much that they can't even cope with demand on the iP7. Because, you know..... no one whan't to buy it, right? Because it doesn't have the 3.5mm jack?

3.5mm jack will vanish quicker then adobe flash, mark my word.

That's exactly the problem with people. And that's what many don't seem to understand. Just because something have been used for to long does not make it bad, I agree. So what then, lets get lazy and sit on our asses because there won't be better? Wireless can be better, for many it is already better. I for one, don't want wires tangling all over me. If you don't make a move, the time will never be right. Now that the 3.5mm is removed, they can focus on improving wireless and making it even better. And am sure it will.

First of all, Apple does this 'shortage of units' thing literally every single release. It speaks volumes to me that this is the first time ever that they won't be announcing weekend sales.

Second of all, it's going to take a bit before the effects of not having a headphone jack are felt. People believe they won't mind at first, but let them lose that dongle a few times. Let their BT headphones run out of a charge in a moment they need private audio most. Let them lose their BT earbuds. It's going to be a massive inconvenience to most consumers, by that reasoning I believe it may be one of their lesser selling iPhones to date. I do believe it will return for the redesign. Not enough people want to ditch the convenience to rely on BT.

I love how someone is disassembling a perfecting functional iPhone 7 while others are waiting in line to get theirs.

Just wait a day or two when all the videos going up on youtube of people testing to see if a brand new iPhone 7 or 7 plus are able to be shot with a gun, dropped off a 5 story building, submerged in liquid nitrogen, etc... All while others who actually want the phone are waiting.

Really impressed that we have all of these engineers on MacRumors offering their wisdom on the headphone jack. So many people on here are apparently capable of engineering the iPhone 7 with a headphone jack- I'm shocked that Apple doesn't start and end their employment search right here.

I'm a design engineer, I design Bluetooth speakers. I can see where Apple could have put a headphone jack - right in the space where that enormous "Taptic Engine" sits - oh but I hear you cry "but then there would be no feedback for the home button", fear not - I have a solution to that too: A physical button! You're welcome.

Don't come out with any rubbish about waterproofing either as there are many examples of phones that offer it all, and better, as people often point out. A 3.5mm jack is inherently low voltage and waterproof anyway. Why even put fake speaker holes in and create a problem for nothing? They're literally pointless and require an additional part to be made - that's terrible design.

Wireless can't technically have better quality than wired, ever, but it's fine - the problem is battery life, you'll always need to charge wireless devices, another inconvenience.

Oh please! You are probably one of these guys who said the same last year when they sold over 13 million phones on a launch weekend. Apple knows better then you guys, they make money by selling stuff and not by holding the stock. Hype?? They don't need that. Hype already exist. It's one of the most (to not say the most) wanted smartphones on the planet.
