Such courage... A plastic bumper covering the fake speaker where the headphone jack should be. ;)

HKE5xh2dBgS6rEUv.huge

just think of the time and money they spent engineering that piece just so they could have holes on both sides. Too bad they weren't brave enough to have asymmetrical holes, they could have used that space for far more awesome things than a butt plug

You just made something up to fit your agenda right? Because wireless audio functions just fine with a jack included. Also you still have a jack and wired head phones called earPods. Nothing changed except you now have an Apple proprietary lightning jack, the "firewire, omg, why is there nothing to plug into it" Apple audio jack...

Just wait a few years and compare wireless headphones then to what we have now. There will be a world of difference.

Here's Jobs on courage and dropping old tech, it still rings true today.

"The iPhone 7 Plus camera array is as expected, including two separate sensors, two lenses, and two sets of optical image stabilizers."

Confused.. wasn't every writing that the zoom lens didn't have optical image stabilisation??

(like DaringFireball: "The telephoto second camera has a few limitations. It does not have OIS, for one thing.", http://daringfireball.net/2016/09/the_iphones_7)

So many are complaining that apple just put a piece of plastic in place of the headphone jack. Did no one read the freaking article? It is a piece of plastic, but it is not JUST a piece of plastic. It serves a purpose.

in place of the headphone jack, we find a component that seems to channel sound from outside the phone into the microphone... or from the Taptic Engine out.

I suspect it has a dual purpose. However, most obvious is to generate the click sound. They need the taptic engine to generate a sound that can be heard externally. So, I suspect it's mainly part of the taptic engine. If they had a headphone jack there instead you wouldn't get that nice click sound.

People can still debate about whether removing the headphone jack to have a taptic engine was a good idea, but the piece of plastic isn't just there to cover the holes. It has a clear purpose.

They remove the headphone jack because space is at a premium, however a SIM card tray larger than the A10 chip is fine o_O

It's 2016 do iPhones even need SIM cards... Why not just have the ability to log in to your carrier account within the Settings App.

I don't think people are arguing that, perhaps more to the point why is the taptic engine such a "vital" feature? Because they removed the push button? Was that necessary? Maybe not when a full-screen buttonless iPhone comes out but this isn't that phone. We've quite literally got solutions put in where there was no problem in the first place and lost some functionality (3.5mm jack) for it - also some fake holes that needed additional waterproofing components (and cost) for nothing, quite literally nothing.

I think the button was a problem. On every phone I've owned after a few years the button stops clicking properly. I think getting rid of the button is a good idea. Dust can't get under it. Water can't get under it.

I was thinking the same, thought I was going crazy. Top comment, 22 votes and it's plain wrong.

intel modem in gsm, qc in cdma.

intel cat 10 450 mbps / qc cat 12 up 13 down (600 mbps)

verizon model has the advantage. Unless intel's silicon in more power efficient.

Cosmetic speaker holes with plastic bumper? this is so wrong on so many levels. I thought Apple doesn't do frivolous design for cosmetic reasons... much less faking something which adversely affect functionality.

Still dumb that there's no legit alternative to the headphone jack on the iPhone 7! If Apple moved over to USB-C, I'd be sold. But Lightning headphones are a terrible idea. End of story!

I want to know if the Lightning EarPods and 3.5mm adapter have DACs and amps built into them, or whether Apple have enable analogue output from the Lightning connector with iOS10!

Read the actual iFixit article dude. The plastic has a purpose beyond just covering the holes. It funnels the sound from the taptic engine out so that you can hear the click!

Has anyone tried plugging in USB headphones into the lightning-USB adaptor? It's inelegant but would be interesting.

I thought the tele-lens does not have OIS?!

Of course we understand that it has some function. But it's a function to solve a problem that Apple created.

Or he's just being as obtuse as most of the pro-headphone jack removal crowd has been for months now. :D

TWO sets of optical image stabilizers. Looks like telephoto has it after all and people were getting up in arms over nothing!

Great. Now we can clearly see the battery is ... SMALLER than the 6s.

Also, that the haptic engine is massive and had it been 2-3mm less in height the headphone jack would clearly still fit.
