Let's see how good battery life is with a quad HD display in a super thin package. Ain't happening.

Doesn't Apple partially or wholly own TSMC? This is just smart of Apple, because Apple had wanted to ditch Samsung for several years now, but couldn't because TSMC's manufacturing wasn't up to snuff when Apple first invested/purchased TSMC. Now that they are, this makes sense.

That is a pretty damn big news that nobody has heard....
[doublepost=1455179305][/doublepost]Intel, Global Foundry are all rumored to be partnering up with Apple in the future.
It's likely Apple might just ditch TSMC as readily as they did Samsung.
There is always a risk of intellectual property theft. Why rely on unknowables?

I understand that that pic of the iphone is a "mock-up" or "rendering" of the possible design of the new 7 but if that "mock-up" holds true with those antenna bands being present its a bit sad given that when I read recent talk about the antenna bands being removed I kind of expected it to be "free" of the antenna bands altogether, in this case the antenna bands were simply "moved" giving things a much more (cleaner) look in my opinion but personally I was hoping they would of have pushed to have it completely clear and free of those antenna bands being present at the rear. I guess maybe current tech or whatever other reason didn't allow for such a big change that they must still be part of the backing of the 7?

We? You talk like Gollum. 'I' just care if a phone actually performs or not. What kind of chip is being used is not important for me, as long it delivers. Bragging about phones is something I think only four years old do, but I understand that even "adults" are busy with bragging. I guess that everyone is entitled to have a hobby.

I agree. Despite of the rhetoric between fans of various companies it's just as simple as what you're stating here.

Scruff was being sarcastic.....but factual at the same time...

good. no more of this ridiculous "chipgate". you'll get TSMC and you'll like it. always found it ridiculous people get so worked up over who made their SoC/SSD/LCD panel.

no doubt these people will find another "-gate" to go on about with the iPhone 7.

That's a quite risky business decision for both companies, Apple and TMSC actually... If anything goes wrong, Samsung will be the only one walking out of this, laughing... So I keep my fingers crossed on this one, hoping for the best!

How many times have Apple pulled away from Samsung to have to just go back within a year because yields are not as great bla bla bla, Seems like a bit of "lets put this out there and then re-negotiate the current deal" type of trick.

However for those saying this is going to hurt Samsung, grow up it wont hurt them anymore than apple is doomed due to error 53. Dont forget they signed up Qualcomm their own competition to produce there 820 chips for them, and seeing as most competition flagship phones will use either exynos or qualcomm chips (apart from percentage of smaller game players i.e huwaei, mediatek etc) i think they will be sitting pretty for a while.

Well i think the problem is that 10nm will be in very limited production in 2016 and thus Samsung will priorities their own products and thus Apple is forced to work tighter with TSMC to get the production that they need.

The risk is ofcourse that TSMC cannot give the qty needed or delays in production.

I agree. Samsung is such a big player in both the SC, NAND, Display, IC and Battery business that this wont matter inf the long or the short term.

Anyone think it will actually indeed be waterproofed? This is the only thing IMO that the Xperia has over Apple, along with Samsung and others. I'm wishing and hoping that it does get a waterproof treatment. I believe the Apple watch is currently waterproof already, right?

So TMC will be the sole supplier for the iPhone 7, chip production will start off slowly in the second half of 2016 and ramp up in 2017. Perfect! Now the iPhone 7 will be in short supply for 6 months after launch creating a mass shortage.

Who said the next iPhone is coming in September? For be benefits of 10nm from TSMC Apple could move the launch of iPhone 7 to be in line with being able to use 10nm.

Worse case - 16nm in iPhone 7 and the 7s gets 10nm? Who wouldn't want an iPhone launch moved back from September a little if they could get a new phone that's faster and better battery life efficient than the 6s in part from the step to 10nm? (Plus whatever the A10 improvements give)

The iPhone business has gotten too big for such a move i think. The whole world is expecting a new iPhone in September.

10nm is very unlikely to be ready for the A10 from all i read. But there are enough improvements to be made to the 16nm process of the A9 to make substantial efficiency progress for an 16nm A10.

If you were a savvy consumer you'd be more worried about getting the absolute best hardware in your phone that you can get...

But carry on waving your Apple pom poms....

Because our job as consumer drones is to extract the maximum possible value from every purchase, ignoring any principles or ethics we might have? Sounds a lot like what the 'greedy corporations' are accused of every day.

If somebody wants to avoid some company or other, and is willing to sacrifice some personal gain to do so, then good luck to them. The alternative isn't so pleasant.

FWIW: After 7nm Quantum Uncertainty kicks in and get ready for tricks and gimmicks until carbon based polymers arrive to breach the barrier. You won't see improvements at 10nm to warrant people to be bragging versus 14nm FinFET.

Unless the Semiconductor industry has been hiding this news for years, this 10nm hype won't materialize for several more years.

TSMC is fixing their 16nm which is actually 20nm planar with FinFET strapped on presently. You think this goes live in June then people are truly dead where it matters most: between their ears.

I hope I relay that correctly for the average user:

7 nm is a touchdown, if FinFet
tries to ferberize his plantar size 20nm
and 16 virgins bring uncertainty by barring all polymers.

If anybody breaches the carbon barrier the A10 police will arrest them
and everybody gets 7S years in battery prison.
