"Some" should read most. Most people like larger screens. And that is the key. Smart businesses go for the largest market. And you are advocating for apple to further splinter their product line up, which has been identified as a mistake they made in the past.
No Apple made mistakes in the past by having confusing model lineups with little differentiation between them, including multitudes of different names for the same computer (e.g. The LC 475 was also the Quadra 605, and a number of Performas).

A 3rd size of iPhone does not confuse things, beyond allowing customers to choose which particular size they like best. Just like with the iPad where you can choose the Mini, Air or Pro depending on which screen size appeals to the purchaser.

Would love to see an iPhone 7 with an all-aluminium design so no more of the lines at the back, non-protruding rear camera, better battery life even if it means a thicker housing. The rest of the improvements I can think of are to do with software.

First, offering another option is not a regression.

Second, perhaps you haven't invested much into Apple's ecosystem...for most people still holding onto a 4" phone, they likely have put hundreds or thousands of dollars into it. You seem to lack common sense.

Apple offers a 4" phone RIGHT NOW, FYI.

And that 4" iPhone is going to be phased out by next year

Well for starters this isn't wireless. A clunky, awkward, bulky charging pad that's bigger than the device to be charged. Ridiculous.

Go to ikea. They sell furniture with it embedded.

I like ikea's minimal look, but I appreciate its not for everyone. My problem is that you lose the minimal look when the charger is installed. So I guess it isn't for me either.

Still, even if they solved that problem I couldn't use it because pets.

You can't say this with any sort of authority. It's very possible that once the 5S moves out of the low price tier position that another 4" could take its place. There are a LOT of people making this request.
A lot of people also want removable batteries, SD card slots, and a less locked down OS. I believe the Rolling Stones have a song about this...

It would be nice to see them do wireless charging, and Bluetooth headphones to get rid of the headphone jack, and waterproof the speaker/mic system. Just a thought.

Bluetooth headphones are available now and don't require the headphone jack to not be there.

Move on to another phone, 4" isn't coming back
There will be a 4 or 4.2 inch iPhone 6. I am convinced, Apple wil release one in spring/mid year 2016, along with an iPad Air 3, Apple Watch 2.
In September 2016, iPhone 7 will be released. By that time you won' t be able to buy the iPhone 6 anymore. Just the 6s and the 6c/mini and of course the iPhone 7. The 6c/mini will feature Apple Pay and perhaps 3D Touch .

I would also love an iPhone 7 that comes with a brand new feature: zero cell reception!

I'm honestly curious in finding out what is so great about metal in phone (or even tablet) casings.

They scratch much, much easier, are far less impact resistant/absorbent, and more importantly, create interference with reception.

Please enlighten me.

But amorphous metallic. This will allow radio waves to pass through
What about a phone that is completely build of a synthetic sapphire material ( of course not 100% sapphire but laminated or something to make it less brittle and 100% shatterproof. Add some color to the sapphire and a fine texture to add grip. You would have an indestructible iPhone .
There are some patents of a 100% glass phone. And making it 100% glass this will add possibilities to have a phone that is just "one big button" for 3D Touch. Removing the need of mechanical/physical buttons.

High tech ceramics are very strong, the sensor on the back of the Apple watch is ceramic, high end chef knives are ceramic.

I think ceramic and/or carbon fiber, like the custom version one offered by Feld & Volk would be very luxurious

That is awesome.

If Apple did something like that, and replaced the stupid lightning connector with USB-C or micro-USB (like everybody else), then I would be somewhat tempted to come back, despite iOS's other limitations (when compared to Android).

What you just said is not a fact - it's your expected result based on past behaviors. A "prediction" at best...but an unqualified one. Get your definition of a fact straight before telling others what the facts are.

A lot of people also want removable batteries, SD card slots, and a less locked down OS. I believe the Rolling Stones have a song about this...

Absolutely understandable...but this is something that exists right now in the iPhone line and is potentially a way to prevent Apple from losing a certain market segment to the first company smart enough to make a flagship 4" phone. Remember what Apple has said about cannibalizing its own sales because this is absolutely a place that it can apply.

As far as the Rolling Stones having a song about it, they've got at least one or two for each perspective.

And smaller battery. It's a well known fact that when people go to larger screen devices, they never want to go back to smaller device.

FALSE. Some people don't want to go back. Others do exactly that. I've done it 3 times myself, and am considering doing it a 4th (aka returning the 6s and keeping my 5s).

Coming from Apple in 2016, the Lovecraftian horror that is the iPhone 7 made of human flesh. They've been working really hard on it, you're gonna love it.

Mac Otakara also received news from reliable sources stating that the upcoming iPhone would have a "completely flat" LCD screen
What does this even mean?

I guess next year is the year I upgrade from a 6+ to a 7+ or from a 6+ to an Android.
