Absolutely understandable...but this is something that exists right now in the iPhone line and is potentially a way to prevent Apple from losing a certain market segment to the first company smart enough to make a flagship 4" phone. Remember what Apple has said about cannibalizing its own sales because this is absolutely a place that it can apply.

As far as the Rolling Stones having a song about it, they've got at least one or two for each perspective.
They aren't gonna lose significant market share over 4" phones. That ship has sailed. And the ones that they do lose are pretty much equivalent to the share they loss from not having a removable battery.

I'm ok with wireless charging but to get rid of the headphone jack?! Hellllll noo.. Are you serious?
yea I don't see that happening. I have Bluetooth headphones but still don't see that happening. to many hifi heads out there who want the solid connection. though I would welcome wireless charging no doubt, water proof would be cool too though I still wouldn't chance it.

High tech ceramics are very strong, the sensor on the back of the Apple watch is ceramic, high end chef knives are ceramic.

I think ceramic and/or carbon fiber, like the custom version one offered by Feld & Volk would be very luxurious

A strong material can be prone to cracking on impact.

Oh, common MR, the new iPhones are barely released and you already start this.

1) Apple is of course already working on the next iPhone and probably has been for a while.
2) This is the rumor site for Apple related rumors.

You do realize this, right?

God I hope they bring back a 4 inch case design. Please, please, please, Tim Cook, remember Steve Jobs, who said: "No effin way we are making some gigantic game playing monstrocity..." (slighty paraphrased, expecting many attacks now).

I've tried to find a 5s to replace my iPhone 6, but can't find anything bigger than 32GB? Crazy...

I got caught in a thunderstorm last week. Luckily I had a plastic bag with me to put my iPhone in. I don't know how well it would have coped otherwise (it's an iPhone 5, not the latest models that show apparently have some waterproofing ability).

It will be interesting to see what they move to if away from metal. BMW have started using carbon fibre in mass production, so it has been shown it can be done. And there are many different types of plastic, it doesn't have to mean cheap.

Same thing happened to me! I was walking to a local store to pick up a few things and on the way back it starting pouring! I had my iPhone 5s in my pocket so I made sure to cover the outside of the pocket with my hand. After that, I REALLY want a water proof iPhone.

Yes! Ditch that stupid aluminium and use glass or smething else.aluminium sucks for something you have to touch all the time.scratches easily..and is slippery..get rid of those ridiculously ugly antenna bands..learn from galaxy s6 edge design abit Apple, they bettered your design big time this time..that stunning design killed my intention to upgrade my 6 to 6s.instead,I'll be buying a s6 Edge Plus in gold despite disliking android and owning iPhones all thee years..
so impress me with iPhone 7..and use more elegant colors instead of this boring, lifeless, matt finnshes of iPhone 6..

are people really dropping there phones in water to the point it needs to be water resistant? you can be without your phone in the pool.

I guess you don't know anybody who's ruined their phone by getting it wet. Hint: it's not because they're intentionally going swimming with it or necessarily because a pool was involved at all. There are lots of realistic ways it can happen.

I'm all for a stronger/waterproof iPhone that doesn't require the use of a beefy case.

You can't say this with any sort of authority. It's very possible that once the 5S moves out of the low price tier position that another 4" could take its place. There are a LOT of people making this request.

Doubtful. What I think (and hope) we will see Apple doing is further reducing the footprint of the current iPhone 6s and 6sPlus. Integrating Touch ID / Home Button into LCD screen would be a step in that direction.

are people really dropping there phones in water to the point it needs to be water resistant? you can be without your phone in the pool. seems like a pointless feature to add being that the speakers, mic, charge port, etc would have to be water resistant. doing this would muffle/reduce clarity. why not focus on making the battery last longer or something more important. just my thoughts...
All it takes to ruin a non-waterproof phone is one oaf spilling their drink just right and suddenly you have to get a new work phone.

Well I'm pretty sure knowing Apple they could come out with some alternative to the lines on the back for cell reception.... :/
I didn't mean to sound rude, just sarcastic. Yeah I think they would have to go with a different material, like liquid metal, if they want to go for a solid case with no lines. The radio signals can't pass through aluminum.

It would be unfortunate if Apple removes the Lightning and headphone jacks to make the new iPhone waterproof... as the Apple Watch has proven, having no physical access means that if anything goes wrong, you have to send your iPhone in to Apple for repair.

Live in a rainy area, like the Seattle and you will get concerned walking around with your phone. Unless you like $40 cases or using plastic bags.

Phones should easily be "waterproof", that is you can have a reasonably active lifestyle and not need to worry about $1000 phone.

Insightful and true.
There are many design changes needed. For example, look at the top 3/4 inch of the phone...most of it wasted space. Line up the camera, microphone and ear piece in a horizontal line, and gain at least a 1/2 inch (12mm) or more! Also, look at the home button...it takes up another 3/4 inch across the bottom...duh!
Also, wife's plastic 5C body..."I love it!" she says. I am not married to aluminum either...but at least alum is recyclable.

Wireless charging isn't a required feature, but it's convenient. You can choose to plug the AC charger or use a wireless charging pad. What is wrong with having a choice between good and better?

It is not convenient when it takes longer than an Apple 12W power supply, as it uses a lot less power to charge and therefore takes longer. No point having a choice when one system is not as quick as the current system - that's going backwards.

FALSE. Some people don't want to go back. Others do exactly that. I've done it 3 times myself, and am considering doing it a 4th (aka returning the 6s and keeping my 5s).

Well that's not the norm - you want less functionality, slower hardware, smaller screen - doesn't make sense. I thought most people were going forwards.

It is too soon to get rid of the lighting cable.
And I want my headphones to be connected by wire. Bluetooth is convenient, but I'd wind up charging another appliance every now and then.

If they aren't using metal what would the next most likely material be? Is carbon fiber a good solution?

Finally Liquid Alloy tech body with rugged design and non-physical 3D Touch home button is coming.

IMO, 10th iPhone will be something special.

Yes! I would really like to go case-less for once. Apple can make the iPhone "thinner" just by making it so you don't have to put a case on it. it's crazy that all that work Apple puts in to make their phones thin and the first thing people do is add bulk by putting a case on it.

Hopefully the new case material will enable them to get rid of that camera bump.

The only problem with going BT only is that if your headphones go dead and you're not going to be around any power for a few hours... what do you do? I think they should always have the option to plug in wired headphones of some sort.

Wireless charging on the other hand is a gimmick and not entirely useful. It doesn't charge your phone faster, you still need to be "tethered" to a wireless portal/dock now, instead of just wired in. And the biggest downfall; you can't use your phone while it's charging on the wireless plate. Don't get me wrong, it's a neat little parlor trick... ooo magical charging! But it doesn't do anything better or faster in terms of charging your phone than just plugging in.

I have imagined a NFC bluetooth speaker with a wireless charging plate so that they connect when you set it down. But Apple doesn't allow NFC BT pairing yet.

You are so right. Wireless charging is such a gimmick. Doesn't offer any advantages over wired charging other than the gee wiz factor. And the best thing about wired charging is being able to continue to use the phone as it charges.

now once they implement over the air charging...now your talking.

God I hope they bring back a 4 inch case design. Please, please, please, Tim Cook, remember Steve Jobs, who said: "No effin way we are making some gigantic game playing monstrocity..." (slighty paraphrased, expecting many attacks now).

If you want a 5s with 64GB, you have to go to used. I'm looking to up my storage on my 32GB 5s too. So I'm hoping to find a 64GB from a store that specializes in buying/selling used phones.

Also You can find plenty of people selling their old 64GB phones on craigslist or ebay.
