If they are using series 7 aluminum, as the leaks suggest, this new model will be more than twice the strength of the 6/6+. If you buy into the "Bendgate" BS, this is significant.

And let me guess... 16GB storage on the base device. Very forward thinking Apple...

It makes perfect sense if you think of it from the standpoint that Apple will make an extra $100 from everyone who goes with the next model up... which is probably most of it's fan base rather than the cheapskates who are only willing to buy the base model.

As a business model it's VERY smart, lower tier base model makes 64gb model seem like a bargain.
As a consumer it sucks cause we're not getting a "great deal" but, "wah"... if you can't afford to play in Apple's yard go play in Google or Microsoft's.

IPhone 7/+ will be wireless charging only. You heard it here first.

"ONLY"? Then you're wrong, for one Wireless charging is slower for another, believe it or not people still sync their iPhones. I sync mine every day still to update my playlists also back up my playlists and apps to iTunes.

They might have wireless charging though... but I think until they have a significantly "Apple" form of wireless charging (maybe one that includes high speed data transfer as well) they might go "bag of hurt" with it. I mean the inductive charging standards have been around longer than NFC at this point and have only been adopted by more than a handful of phones on the market.

Form over Function.

I agree with you, slimming these things over and over is getting counter productive. Although the protruding camera can be seen as function over form, which is just as bad :p

They could please both users AND Jony Ive's sadistic quest for thinner devices by having an iPhone 'air' and an iPhone 'pro'

Seriously. I'll take 8-9mm thick with 2 day battery life over 6mm

I want to be able to use my phone longer on a single charge.

I would like thinner and smaller. I don't care about battery, it never runs out on me, i'm always near chargers at home, in the office, in the car, even walking around its easy enough to have a backup battery hidden in your bag which can charge your phone tens of times. Not sure why everyone has so many issues with battery unless they're all camping with no chance of reaching a charge for two days at a time...
We are not "camping". More like working. Yes, we are near chargers but we don't have opportunities to constantly get it back up to 100%. Making it 10% bigger to get us near 18-20 hours battery life should be the goal in the near term. Batteries of 1-2 days better be 2 years out.

It's a very smart strategy because you force people into the "not ****" product tier. Them restricting it to only 16gb is a slap in the face to the customer, not everyone is a "cheapskate" because they buy the lowest version. How can you say something so incredibly stupid like that and have self respect? Their cheap because they don't want Apple to downright screw them over?

Apple, just do this.

• iPhone Mini - 4 inch
• iPhone Air - 4.7 inch
• iPhone Pro - 5.5 inch

Quad Core A9, 2 GB of Ram, Wireless Charging, Adaptive fast charge, 1080p resolution, 12MP camera. Put this in all 3 so there aren't differences. Make the phones thick enough to accommodate larger batteries (and maybe the cameras flush) so the devices can last at least as much as the leading competitors. kthxbye

(For those of you eagerly waiting to say "get an android", no. I don't want a POS android device, I want iOS.)

I'd buy an iPhone mini pretty quickly!

You can do all of that wirelessly, your example is irrelevant because you literally have an option that works exactly the same.

It's slower wirelessly. And what of people who are happen to be off of Wifi? Or when you need to top off and you're not near wireless charging base? Calling my example "irrelevant" just how not thought out your declaration is.

I cannot visibly discern the pixels on my 6 + without using a loupe. I'm don't know what double the resolution do for the display....

THEY aren't cheap... THEY'RE SMART.

This is Apple... it's like YOU'RE new to how they have run THEIR business for decades. If you don't like how they practice business, take it elsewhere. You have Google and Microsoft to buy products from if you don't like how Apple does it.

As many have stated, my wife being one of them, not everyone needs more than 16gb. That and they are pushing their cloud services.

How is it that you are so ignorant to the matter that other people's needs are not the same as yours? The "cheapskates" are the ones that cry and complain that Apple is "screwing them over", they're not screwing you over, they're here to sell you a product, not give you what you want for the minimal amount of money you're willing to shell out. You are welcome to NOT buy their 16gb phone cause it's "under spec'd" or buy their 64gb and 128gb option for 100-200 bucks more. It's pretty simple. Just because you and I know the cost to build a device doesn't mean they have to set the market to our knowledge. If it wasn't selling at that tier, then they wouldn't build it at that Spec. /economics-101-lesson.

Actually I hope THEY drop the 16gb option in the future and only sell the 64gb option at $749 to shut the whiny cheapskates up.

Sony just announced their 4K phone. Which is ridiculous IMO. But I imagine it'd be like looking into a little window into another world. :p

I've always been an advocate of the same/slightly thicker for more battery life. However, I have fantastic battery life from my 6 - usually around 80-85% at the end of the day. I use my phone as a phone and enjoy the day, I'm not glued to it so YMMV.

That said - I have an iPod touch 6G and I can't help but think every time I pick it up that THIS is the optimal thickness. That device feels absolutely extraordinary in the hand. Not too thick, not too thin, really just the epitome of what an iOS device can be in this day and age. If they can keep the battery life the same and get it to 6-6.1mm, I'm all for it. After that, quit making it thinner and make the battery life better.
