Why doesn't Apple cut to the chase and make it 1mm thick.

How else are they going to be able to milk the cow over the long term? They've got to screw the customers year after year, just slightly upgrading it here and there. Customers call it progress, they call it business.

At least they aren't like Blackberry, where they upgrade a feature but cripples an existing one.

"ONLY"? Then you're wrong, for one Wireless charging is slower for another, believe it or not people still sync their iPhones. I sync mine every day still to update my playlists also back up my playlists and apps to iTunes.

They might have wireless charging though... but I think until they have a significantly "Apple" form of wireless charging (maybe one that includes high speed data transfer as well) they might go "bag of hurt" with it. I mean the inductive charging standards have been around longer than NFC at this point and have only been adopted by more than a handful of phones on the market.

You do know we have wifi syncing don't you?

Hmm. All it takes to beat Apple at its game is to introduce all the features at once that Apple already has, but holds back so that they can dribble them out a little at a time.

Makes sense, move to a digital sim card, get ride of the jack.... The Jack would be a pain.. but if they add wireless charging, then we really move to a wireless world and then I'm happy to ditch the Jack!

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has issued a new report that suggests next year's "iPhone 7" could be Apple's thinnest smartphone yet,

i suggest the iPhone 8 will be even thinner than the iPhone 7 making the iPhone 8 the thinnest iPhone yet.:p:D

The report also states that the company will stick to a similar Force Touch technology in next year's version of the iPhone, due to the heavy amount of time and investment Apple and its suppliers have put into adapting it for this year's "iPhone 6s" and "iPhone 6s Plus."

Watch them make an iPhone with a 4K display before they make a 4K Apple Thunderbolt Display. Sigh, I miss it when the iPhone didn't exist. Back when only nerds were addicted to computers.

Why not make THE back of the phone THE battery. Spread all over the back, apart from Camera and flash of course.

Making this device thinner and thinner every year, like its the most important thing to customers just makes no sense any more! The iPhone 5 had the right size and thickness, imo. Also, no round corners, which make the iPhone 6 even less grippy ("grippy" ? :) that problem (glitchy round aluminum corners) was a problem on the original iPhone, and they first solved it on the iPhone 3G with another material, and dropped round corners completely with the iPhone 4. Now they're back and I just don't get that decision! Also, I don't see any point to make a device that needs to be held most of the time with a secure grip on the sides thinner and thinner, while sacrificing battery life, that isn't great at all already.

I don't think that matters to Apple anymore . they're just looking at the iPhone to power the Watch and stream Apple Music . everything else will become secondary.

Smaller batteries reduce the customer experience on the watch and phone.

Apple should be cramming in as much battery as possible, not creating bulging cameras and phones that bend with casual use.

An iPhone 7+ at that size and that thin would have no rigidity at all and would easily deform with even 7000 aluminum without a ton of internal bracing for strength.

But is Tim Cook that out of touch...yup...

How could you possibly fit twice the battery into a case that's just 10% thicker? (…).
well, simply by using this "10%" for a larger battery and optimise software/hardware <;-)
but me too, i didn't get these mm fights … it is okay to minimise an "unusable thick device", but i don't care if 6mm 6,1mm 6,5 mm …

BTW, who is this "KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo"?
did you mean "the well informed and respected KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo"?
:D

I can honestly say that out of all the features of the iPhone, I cannot recall anyone ever saying it's just too thick. This is even back to the iPhone 4 days. Camera could be better, yes almost yearly, screen could be better, sometimes. Never ever that it's too thick. Is there that much kudos in the industry for having the thinnest phone???? I have a 6 plus with a terminator-like battery that never dies, but if I had a 6 I'd prefer thicker and more battery any day.

In all honesty 4k on a phone at this point in time would be an absolute waste. It would be nice if they upped the 4.7 model to 1080p tho.
Agreed, it would be like having a 7.1 Dolby hds on a 2 speaker tablet.

4k, even on the iPad pro may produce little discernible benefits vs cost of implementation. 4k in larger screened iMacs do make more sense

All I want is iPhone 6 Plus to get shorter so it fits into my pocket. For anyone who is worried about the camera sticking out more, I'd wager that Apple will use the rumored multi camera setup that's said to cut camera thickness in half.

I doubt it that the iPhone 7 will get the dual camera setup, it's probably reserved for a later model. The iPhone 7 will probably get a slightly tweaked version of the 12MP camera.

For the record - someone wants it thinner - me as a starting point. I hated the iPhone 4S thickness. I don't like the overall size of the 6 but can live with it. A thinner smaller phone is better for me n- get rid of the audio jack as well and the home button and the bezel and I will be happier.

Fair enough. Personally I feel Apple crossed the "event horizon" by making the current phones too thin so that the camera protruded. I do agree that the top and bottom bezels need reducing, and soon.

Totally agree on the camera protrusion. It is like a catwalk model with a giant zit.

Make it 8-9 mm, and with a much better battery life + flat camera instead.
Nobody would complain!
