I am on a 128GB 6s at the moment, could only just about live on 64GB so hoping the sizes will be 32 / 128 / 256 and not 32 / 64 / 128 so i can go for the middle tier.

The more I think about it, the more I think I understand why Apple is only going 32/128/256 now.

Basically, Apple was waiting for the users with 64gb iPhones to adjust their usage habits such that they are using more than 32gb of storage. This way, they won't (or can't) downgrade to a 32gb iPhone as that would in turn represent a net loss in margins for Apple. The only real option they would have is to opt for the 128gb model, which in turn gives Apple another reason to increase the base price of their devices.

I have no idea who might want a 256gb iPhone (much less actually need that much storage) though.

That does seem like an interesting idea, though I still don't use the full 64gb after years of use, so I don't know whether that is their actual plan. It's probably more to do with the fact that more storage space means Apple can fit more apps (which they earn revenue from) and more lossless songs (rumor about Apple introducing a new format for Apple music) onto user's devices

You don't need to have used the full 64 gb, just more than 32 gb. I have 16 gb spare on my 64 gb iPhone. No way 32 would be enough for me. I would have to opt for the 128 gb model.

I'm using about 28 right now, but most of it is saved spotify playlists. If I undownloaded the ones I don't listen to, I would have a lot more space and could easily use a 32gb device. But I'm not everyone, and storage use is so varied it's impossible to generalize it.

If thats true that new iPhones will have dual camera and so on, video might be very good option. I have seen music videos shot on iPhone and they are amazing. With dual cameras, its going to be great and videos do need a lot of storage. Another option is high res music (also rumored). Lossless music files are also very large compared to usual mp3 and mp4 files.

Lol yea

Agreed although if we can keep prices at even the same current price points I could be happy. I'm one of those ones who has to commit to a 20-some month payment plan as is so if I can't do that and have it be worth it or affordability is an issue I may as much as I love Apple have to say bye bye once my 6 becomes a brick

Good news I installed iOS 10 public beta on my 16GB iPhone 6. No signs of bricking, lagging, or any other kind of slowing down. So your 6 should be good for another year.

In related news iOS 10 will need at least 13 gigs of available space to update your phone ;):apple:

It didn't require that much memory when I installed iOS 10 beta on my 16GB iPone 6 OTA. I had a little over 3GB free when I started the installation and have a little over 2GB free after the installation. The installation worked fine with no errors and iOS 10 is running on my 16GB iPhone 6 with no problems or slowdowns.

Well thanks for sharing but good or not in the software dept I've other reasons and motivation for upgrading to the 7 or whatever comes out next. Including getting back a larger tier of memory and some out of warranty repairs that frankly aren't worth fixing

Don't you understand the art of exaggerating for comedic effect ?
o_O

64GB is far from enough for me. I was wondering how they use iPhone 5C with only 8GB?
I prefer at least storage of 128GB just in case.

Thats another version of the same theory about Apple's strategy I keep hearing, and I think if true they're idiots.
They make money on the insanely high margins of their overpriced phones ALL across the line. Offering a crippling amount of space in the base model is only making them a few bucks, while building a healthy dose of ill-will from the people they hope to keep making money from in the future.

It's like if an nice restaurant charged you extra for bread before the meal. Even if it made them a buck or two that first time, how many customers would never come back because they felt that was an ****** move? Sometimes squeezing that extra one or two bucks out of the customer isn't 'smart buisiness' at all.

I agree on the first part, they waited a couple of years so their customer could get used to having 64GB. Most of them won't downgrade to 32GB and Apple won't lose money.
But they may sell 32-64-128 and sell the 256 tier only for the Plus to squeeze an extra $100.
