Doubt Intels latest offering is going to be up to Qualcomms standards and there no chance of a Qualcomm modem..

EDIT: Still using Qualcomm apparently. Their modem will be throttled like the iPhone 7 then id imagine

Yeah I was gonna say doesn't really matter

If apple has a Qualcomm variant and throttles it, nevermind carriers have their own limitations, relatively moot.

I would be curious if they go all intel this time tho. Probably depends if intel can do cDma now

Cuz that's totally all the phone does.
Well, he does have the makings of a point, what demanding software are you going to run on your app-store-only 6" max phone? And what's more, when the a10 in the iPhone 7 is already laptop level, at what point does more power stop meaning anything? Probably the biggest benefit they could bring would be holding steady on performance and massively reducing power consumption for a longer runtime.

I sure hope the Intel modem is not the exact same one.

Gawd I hope it's changed out. This Intel modem in my 7+ is TERRIBLE. I have to reboot often to get WiFi working 100%. So sad. Hopefully it's an upgraded model with better speed/quality/low signal work-ability.

Thanks for your input. But I await real world results over a forum members ancedotal opinion based off no testing bench marks.
The iPhone 7 vs the 6s is my source. The 7 was faster but not by much. Heck there was a video the other day comparing the iPhone 6 with a galaxy s8 and the iPhone 6 was slower loading each app by a whopping 3 seconds.

This is a luxury item - no one needs to buy one at all and believe it or not your entire world will not fade away if you choose not to.....in fact for this sort of money you could make a good stab towards something far more worthwhile like learning an instrument or a new language, travelling or taking up a sport...

I wouldn't be caught dead with last year's iPhone. J/K, but some do look at it like that. I was recently at a car show and overheard someone refer to a particular Ferrari (that was beautiful btw, way beyond my means) as a "poor man's Ferrari. Really?

If you wait a few weeks after release for the sim-free (no carrier) version from apple.com, you will get the one with the Qualcomm modem. 99% sure the unlocked one will be Qualcomm because it supports both GSM and CDMA.

Ah ok, might be just in the US then. I bought an unlocked 7 and got the intel version.

Again, experiences will vary based on real world applications and uses. I'm not entirely concerned about a second if a difference, where performance may be extrapolated elsewhere.

Oh God, their goes premium LTE speeds for premium pricing then, all because of Apples greed and MO of simply refusing to pay suppliers to force down component costs...
I've even read the iPhone 8 512GB model is rumoured to include faster more expensive storage then the lower sizes, you know because £1100 or more simply isn't enough money to warrant faster storage speeds......

The One Plus 5 manages to have the fastest storage you can get on both models and they still make a profit and it could be a third of the cost of the iPhone 8!!!

It amazes me how many say they can't afford the new iPhone.

Every year I sell mine and put it towards the new one. I got $500 for my 6S Plus. And now with the iPhone Upgrade Program you just pay for the phone monthly.

Even if you hand down your old phone to someone else and get no money for it, $700-$1000 for the iPhone Pro isn't bad...
Very wise I do the same thing with mine and make a few bucks in the process.

WiFi has nothing to do with the Cellular modem.... For WiFi Apple is using Broadcom as usual, like they have for all their devices including Mac's for the past 10 years..

Intel modem is the worst...
on a whim I bought a $150 qualcomm equipped iphone SE for fun on a recent BB sale. Popped in sim chip from my wife's 7+ with Intel modem and guess what, at least 10-20+ faster on speedtest.net along with much better call reception

That doesn't make any sense. All tests points to the Qualcomm equipped iPhone 7 / 7 Plus to have superior speed while in good coverage, but the Intel modem actually fared better in dodgy conditions. The Qualcomm one ended up slower in low signal areas compared to the Intel one. Sure you just didn't read into the bias and make up your own reality?

I just want to know if there are going to be camera improvements in the 7s & 8 models. We know from leaks that the double camera in the 8 will be vertical. But will they both get the same cameras? All things being equal, if they get the same cameras, I may go for the 7s plus over the 8.

It's not a question of affording an iPhone 8. It's more a question of,
"Is a freaking PHONE worth $1000?" or "Isn't the notion of a $1000 PHONE just freaking ******* crazy?"

Personally, no. I could think of dozens of things to do over the year for $1000 better than talking to most people. :D

that is completely contrary to what info is published. From cultofmac.com:

"Depending on the situation, the Intel XMM 7360 modem performed as much as 30 percent slower than the Qualcomm MDM9645M modem on LTE bands. The max throughput of both modems was the same when researchers used a strong signal. But as soon as the signal strength weakened, Intel’s modem noticeably lagged behind Qualcomm’s."

Intel modem is bunk.

You missed my entire point. iPhones have started at $650 for almost a decade. The highest price being $969.

If people could afford $700-$950+ for a phone for the past few years then there's no reason for them to complain about this new iPhone Pro potentially starting at $800+.

Of course no one NEEDS the phone and there will also be cheaper options.

My iPhone 7+ 128GB is $41.58 a month. I sold my 6S Plus for $500 cash. I can still afford to travel and do other things... Thanks tho.

I don't necessarily disagree but I doubt One Plus is making much, if anything, by way of profit on those phones.

But the same can be said about $650! Lol which the phones have started at for years. The highest priced iPhone currently is $969 which people buy.

To each their own. There will be cheaper options. It's just not hard to sell your current phone or any piece of technology and offset the cost of the new one...
