Even cars have dual exhaust exits but only one with an actual exhaust pipe...

Age of the looks fellas...

that's not OEM.

Purely decorative speaker holes would give the iPhone an overall fakey image in my opinion. Kinda like the plastic paneling made to look like brick that my Mom used in the kitchen in the 70's (love you Mom).
At least your mom used plastic paneling. My dad used contact paper printed with fake bricks! That was for the kitchen backsplash. For the rest of the kitchen he used dark green "wood paneling" that was also contact paper! It's still there to this day, though the fake brick did get covered over with orange flowers. The 70's were so cringe-worthy all around.

As for these alleged fake speaker holes, well of course it wouldn't be the first time I've seen such a thing, and not just from Apple. But if it is all true, I would not be surprised. Even Samsung Note 7 which everyone including myself keeps comparing to the IPhone 7 disappointed loyalists by failing to include specs everyone was expecting Samsung to include. From politics to flagship smartphone releases, 2016 is shaping up to being a huge ball of wth?-ery.

HAHAHA!!!
removes the headphone jack to make the phone thinner/ phone stays same thickness.
removes the headphone jack because they need the space/ doesn't put anything in the empty space.
removes the headphone jack because they want to make it more waterproof/ puts lots of holes to let the water in more easily.

Please realize that Apple has been putting superfluous "speaker" holes in iPhones on and off for almost 10 years. The iPhone 1 and iPhone 5/5S/5SE all had "cosmetic speaker holes" in them. But now somehow people are disgusted and flabbergasted by it.
Nah, I don't care about it because the SE has a headphone jack.

Guys... let's have a real discussion about the potential use of the headphone jack space. I see a lot of bickering and not a lot of rumor discussion. Here's a shot of the iPhone 6S with the headphone jack space highlighted green. This is what will be removed. Note the red space on the logic board that was designed with consideration to the full depth of the headphone jack assembly. Above that red box is where the taptic engine lives (you can see the outline on the case).

So bear with me here. Imagine that the logic board no longer needs to be as wide/tall as the headphone jack at the bottom there. The new limiting feature will be the lightning port, which is much shallower than the headphone jack. So I'd imagine the low hanging fruit would be to move the logic and circuitry in that red box there, down to the area of the green headphone jack. This in turn allows them to push the taptic engine further down, which in turn allows them to add a larger battery.

I have no knowledge of what Apple plans on doing, but simple deductive reasoning leads me to believe at the very least, it allows them to shoehorn a larger battery in the same space. Isn't battery life the thing that everyone complains about the most around here? I suspect pretty soon it'll be the headphone jack...

I don't get why they would do this. The space that the audio jack with D/A electronics will leave some space. Why would they leave that unused? And fooling people to believe there are two speakers will only make people pissed of when they realized it's a dummy

Read a article yesterday that basically stated that the headphone removal is going to be done this year so that all the negative opinions will be about this phone and not next years 10th anniversary phone. Not sure if I believe they would make such a bold move, but we will see
If they aren't changing the external form factor, I can't think of any other reason to get rid of it this year.

This may sound like sarcasm but it's not: is there actually any benefit to having two speakers that close together?

You probably won't notice the actual stereo image, but two speakers move twice as much air. So there should be an increase in top end volume.

Anyone notice D12 below? Seems to indicate a strobe lens and LED on the front of the device. I haven't heard anyone talk about this...

There will be two speakers but it won’t be stereo.

If both speakers are fully functional, then I'm fine with that if their not Stereo. If one of the speakers is set to be a microphone and mimic a speaker, this would annoy me.
