If this is true, it seems counter to Jony Ive's overtures about a material or product needing to 'be true to itself'. There's nothing less 'true' about a purely cosmetic feature appearing to be something it isn't.

Perhaps because in the past something very, very useful was not being removed and replaced with holes. Past holes were just cosmetic- like the colors of the phone. This time, people are losing something pretty useful and thoroughly ubiquitous and getting holes plus maybe an adapter "tail" hanging out of the bottom. Even the "Apple is always right" crowd is having to work overtime to keep trying to rationalize this one to their fellow consumers.
None what ever, unless you are ant man and can fit in between the two, even a set at the top is a stretch, it just makes the phone louder. This may sound like sarcasm but it's not: is there actually any benefit to having two speakers that close together?
Except they've done this already with the iPhone 1 and iPhone 5/5S/5SE. Sorry that doesn't fit the template of "something is seriously wrong at Apple", but it's the truth - unless you are arguing something has been seriously wrong at Apple for the last 10 years.Absolutely agree. In addition to breaking this important rule of design -- which is a rule of general applicability -- this would run counter to the philosophy actually espoused by Apple's design chief. If this is true, something is seriously wrong at Apple.
It's all that internal space that matters. They could put a fake audio jack on the bottom for all I care. Your old headphone plug would only go in a millimeter or so.We got our audio jack removed and now that space is left for fancy holes,Really Cheep idea Tim cook![]()
There will be two speakers but it won’t be stereo.I'm not believing this article at all. It makes no sense to do this. If there are stereo speakers, Apple will probably touch on this at the September Keynote.
Apple will most likely have the second speaker functional with the microphone equipped.
Hardware is hardware. And some of what Samsung is doing there these days is impressive. But at the end of the day it's still running Android. Lipstick on a pig.
Yes . . . for your hamster or kitten. This may sound like sarcasm but it's not: is there actually any benefit to having two speakers that close together?
Oh my heck... I mean I've seen fake dual exhausts before, but that's a flipping AMG Merc. That's a cop-out of biblical proportions. Unless the AMG badge is fake too...Nothing new here.
Even cars have dual exhaust exits but only one with an actual exhaust pipe...
Age of the looks fellas...

b/c it won't fit on the next iPhone, and they'd rather have the bad publicity on a phone they know is not going to sell as well.So why tf did they remove the headphone jack???
Wait wait wait.... not having a headphone jack is an entirely different discussion from including dummy speaker holes. Case in point, the iPhone 1 and 5 which had both a headphone jack AND dummy speaker holes. I'm not defending the removal of the headphone jack, I'm simply pointing out that dummy speaker holes have a long history at Apple. This is nothing new.
are disgusted and flabbergasted by it.
This would not be new for Apple. Didn't iPhone 4 appear to have dual speakers cosmetically but only one actual speaker? Seems like I recall something else too that had the same appearance of dual speakers but only had one? Maybe one of the iPad models?
I feel like your capitalization is working against your statement in that second sentence. They would remove headphone jack and not replace it with NOTHING, and that's not a big deal?? APPLE HAS EVERYONE hypnotized
Eh, increased volume maybe? This may sound like sarcasm but it's not: is there actually any benefit to having two speakers that close together?
Read a article yesterday that basically stated that the headphone removal is going to be done this year so that all the negative opinions will be about this phone and not next years 10th anniversary phone. Not sure if I believe they would make such a bold move, but we will seeb/c it won't fit on the next iPhone, and they'd rather have the bad publicity on a phone they know is not going to sell as well.
