Macrumors of course only highlights the positives.

You of course did not read the entire thing and only highlighted what you cared to pay attention to.

I read a bunch of review quotes that did not like these new devices in the same post.

I have a 6 and a 7 and both phones are going to the 8 and 8+. For one the X is way too high of a price without not enough feature to convince me, maybe the x2 will do that. And touch ID was another reason ill stick with the 8

Price is likely the only reason people won't upgrade to the X, which Apple likely knew and priced the X accordingly in order to limit sales while production capacity was constrained. I think what will more likely happen, is that they'll see higher than expected X sales, just like what happened with the 6+ intro, and they'll be playing catch-up for 6 months.

By that time, there will be rumors of the XS models, which may keep some from upgrading to the X, figuring they'll get something better for maybe a similar price, or less.

I don't regret buying a 7 Plus now that it's $100 off, I knew I wouldn't be a fan of the glass back and the smaller battery is almost insulting. If the A11 is more effiecient, put in the same battery and get more out of it. Don't put in a smaller one and get 'about the same'.

Plus you can't beat that Jet Black.
Jet black yuck! too many scratches I've seen online with that color. And the glass body back on the 4 was the best design, glad it's coming back.

Nice to see the speed of the new devices. Not really sold on some of the photo effects, but, the raw camera images appear to be great on these devices. Be curious to see the X compared to 8, and long term how these devices hold up.

Currently happy with my 7, and since it took years to get a fully black phone without any stainless / chrome, I plan on holding onto it for another year. Perhaps the successor to the X will be in the cards for me in 2018!

It's not whether it looks good or not, it's just going to extremes to show just how capable the native editing tool is.
Judging by that picture, the native editing tool is not that capable. That photo looks absolutely horrible. It literally looks like a really bad photoshop. I'm pretty sure if Apple was highlighting that feature they would have chosen much better photographic evidence of it's capability.

Man, you have no clue huh.

Only if your delusional and blind and forget the Iphone X too.
Almost everything but the body is changed.

Well actually I don't even like the iPhone X (no touch id, no promotion display, 1k and not very good for one handed use = no buy for me). But your the one here who is bringing up the iPhone X. The iphone 8 is boring af you have to be a fanboy to deny that fact. Yh yh everything but the body has "changed" oh please. It's so lackluster we will barely notice a difference to the 7.

There’s no full size image galery in CNET’s camera review as far as I can see. Those resized images does not look impressive.

Only if you consider new features to be the only difference... but literally every component was upgraded from the screen to the cameras. I don't think it's fair to say there are no major upgrades outside of wireless charging.

Every component was upgraded? I think you've got a highly inflated view of what has actually been updated inside of the 8.

Hope you are not concerned about the price tag. I think it will be fair upgrade for you over your iPhone 6. Which color are you deciding. I am going for silver 64 GB model.

Pricing is the reason why I am torn in between 8Plus and X, but honestly I really do want the X. Hopefully it’ll be good enough to last perhaps 3 or even 4 years with me.

I’m probably getting the 256Gb Silver X, which is an overkill but I’ve already reached 64Gb and there isn’t a 128Gb option.

Cheers!

I wish Apple would stop giving review units to the usual suspects for a change. Let them wait like the rest of the public. Give it to technically inclined people, not Apple worshipers and YouTube stars.

The reviewers all seem to be trying REALLY hard to ignore the AR aspect entirely. Pretty funny. I'm sure the Bionic will turn out to be the baseline standard for AR use in time. iPhone 8 is essentially the bridge between "first 10 years of iPhone" and the "second 10 years of iPhone".
There's really nothing out there to showcase AR. Apps that make use of it are required for it to be mentioned.

As others have said, the 8 is effectively a 7S, which in any other year would have garnered mostly positive reviews. But because the 8's are now second fiddle to the X, the natural thing to do is to question why someone would upgrade to the 8 instead of the X.

For those currently using a 7 or 7+, it likely is a stretch to think upgrading to the 8 makes sense. I've been using my 6S+ without feeling the need or want to upgrade to the 7, and the I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that the obvious upgrade path is going to be the X. For early adopters, why would you not skip the 8 and go right to the X?
I'm struggling with this question. I have a 7 and already ordered the 8. Besides the fact that my 7 is all scratched up, which is a stupid reason to upgrade but did play in to the decision, I'm also future-proofing myself in case I don't want to go to the X style even next year. It's too expensive and basically just for a bigger screen. This way my tech is pretty up to date and I don't have to spend $1150+. Beyond the 8, it all depends on what they release next year. Maybe I'll hang on to it, pay it off and go from there.

If I'm really not impressed I guess I could take it back and keep the 7. We'll see.

If you look at iPhone 8 Plus as an iPhone 7S Plus and pretend the iPhone X doesn't exist, this is a wonderful update.

I'm glad to be receiving my 8 Plus on Friday! The iPhone XS is going to be even more amazing when it ships in 12 months. (i.e. 8 months after most people finally get their iPhone X) :p

Is there a filter to remove unsightly buns from people's hairdos? (ok, that was mean)

But seriously, they really are afraid to show any marketing photos of the 8's front aren't they.

Maybe because it's indistinguishable from the iPhone6...

My Aunt Martha should start reviewing iPhones

"After spilling melted butter on it making cookies for the kids, it still works! oh and photos of my 12 cats came out great!"

In what photography world does this look good?

These features they've rolled out over the years, portrait mode and portrait mode lighting are some of the sloppiest things I've ever seen. Embarrassing. They might as well call them Bad Photoshop modes

Those benchmarks and that camera are hardly minor

Lol. It is such a waste of money to get the iPhone 8 or 8+ because the upgrade is minor. Benchmarks are just tests, not indicative of the user's experience. The camera is a minor enough of an upgrade because it is just better. Did the 7 and 7+ stop recording in 4k, using dual cameras (7+), not offering OIS, no optical zoom? No, the 7/7+ cameras are not obsolete.

The 7/7+ are worth getting because those phones offer some semblance of a modern smartphone like dual stereo speakers and water resistance. The 8/8+ are lame duck phones especially when Apple created a 20 minute timeframe that they were somewhat relevant. Everyone knew the iPhone X was the one to get. Not this piece of junk known as the 8/8+ since it is the same design and very little changes.

Your fake truth, of course. BUt who cares.

You obviously care, considering that you took the time to respond. If you want the 8/X go for it. Not at all worth it to me so it's an easy pass.
