Those reviews doesn't cut if for me. I want real reviews from customers who actually jas it. This 4k video edited looking reviews doesn't impress me. I want to see the real low light video recording.

Price is likely the only reason people won't upgrade to the X, which Apple likely knew and priced the X accordingly in order to limit sales while production capacity was constrained. I think what will more likely happen, is that they'll see higher than expected X sales, just like what happened with the 6+ intro, and they'll be playing catch-up for 6 months.

By that time, there will be rumors of the XS models, which may keep some from upgrading to the X, figuring they'll get something better for maybe a similar price, or less.
The rumors started already for a larger version of the OLED iPhone, some people are waiting for that. And the wait might be well into first half of 2018 and it will be only a few months before the new X iPhones will be around the corner as you stated

I've had an iPhone since day 1. Yes the day they came out and when they introduced the camera I thought, hey this is great. Well, I have NEVER been able to take a photo like the ones they show. I don't know how on this planet they are getting that kind of look etc and night time photography is worse. Unless there is some sort of app they use in conjunction with the camera, I just cannot believe these cameras produce what they show. It's gotta be me but man, how in the hell do they get perfect pictures? For me they are grainy as hell at night no matter what I do with focus/lighting adjustments etc...

I'm going to make a lot of popcorn and follow the iPhone X Preorder thread in a month when everyone here is crying about having to wait 2-3 months to get their new iPhone. iPhone X will turn into a 2018 iPhone very fast when pre-orders open and initial 4-8 weeks of supply sell out immediately.

In what photography world does this look good?
No kidding. That's horrible... I'd be embarrassed to show someone that.

Martin added that even his high-end DSLR can't achieve the kind of exposure he achieved with the iPhone 8 Plus.
That's because Martin either doesn't know how to use his DSLR or doesn't have the time or skills to make adjustments to the photos in post like the iPhone does (whether you like it or not) automatically.

A current sensor phone will never take as good of a photo as a current big sensor dedicated camera. The one legs up that phones have as they've proven to be superior in their ability to share photos and alway be on a person. they say the best camera is the on you have with you.

I do not know about you, but what caught my eye were the Leica rangefinder cameras included side-by-side to the iPhone8/8+.

Analog and chemistry: No digital *****-footing allowed.

You of course know that your analog picture with chemistry is made with chemical dots, and that different films differentiated themsevels based on how many of these dots existed on the emulsion, among other things.

Digital chemistry.

If that "photographer" couldn't get his high end DSLR to achieve better results than the iPhone, I don't think the DSLR is at fault.

Why are they so focused on iPhone 7 owners? The majority of iPhone owners do not even have a 7 or 7+ so are most likely to be the target audience for the iPhone 8 & 8+.

To be fair, in The Verge review, the sentence right after that is: "Of course, if you're upgrading from anything older than an iPhone 7, the improvements in the camera and the overall speed of the phone are going to really impress you."

Clean design is ruined here in Europe.

Wow!!

In addition, the camera attached on the glass in that way it's not as stylish as the 7.

I wish Apple would stop giving review units to the usual suspects for a change. Let them wait like the rest of the public. Give it to technically inclined people, not Apple worshipers and YouTube stars.
That's why i don't trust "tech reviewers." Real reviews would be from average consumers.

the phone looks like a good quality iPhone. it's the default iPhone. if you like iPhone you'll like the iPhone 8.

However, the $50 price tag increase on the base model really hurts the value of this if you're on a 6s or 7 already.

Reasons to upgrade if you want these features: 4k @60fps camera, wireless charging.

Nice to have's but likely won't be noticeable in everyday activities: A11 chip over A10/A9. is the A11 the best mobile chip for smartphones? yes. Is that difference between the last two iterations super noticeable in day to day usage? no. the A series CPU's have hit a point of diminishing returns and it's now up to iOS and developers to actually create compelling Apps to leverage that power.

things that ultimately are the same: Design. day 2 day camera usage is probably not going to be noticeably different.

Essentially, the iPhone 8, is the iPhone 6sss. There's nothing wrong with that. I think for a mid-tier phone the iPhone 8 would be the best device at 599, or even at $649 that it used to be. But at $699, it's indicating a trend in the wrong way. We're seeing essentially a phone that manufacturing costs should be decreasing due to economies of scale and long term consistencies and efficiencies. existing tech, many of the sensors, boards and layouts aren't changing so there's less engineering that needs to go into the phone. ultimately, the price should be coming down. INstead it's going up. Like almost all of Apple's other products, they've raised the prices to a point where they're losing "premium" price point and starting to move into "Apple Tax" pricing.

Lol what's up with the iPhone 7 geekbench scores? They should be identical to the iPhone 7 Plus.

My daughters will be upgrading from hand-me-down 6 and 6S. They're getting 7's. The 8 series just seems like 7S level improvements. My wife and I already have wireless charging. If the girls want it (they don't) a simple $20 case solves that problem. To me iOS 11 is the true upgrade. The 8... meh.

As others have said, the 8 is effectively a 7S, which in any other year would have garnered mostly positive reviews. But because the 8's are now second fiddle to the X, the natural thing to do is to question why someone would upgrade to the 8 instead of the X.

For those currently using a 7 or 7+, it likely is a stretch to think upgrading to the 8 makes sense. I've been using my 6S+ without feeling the need or want to upgrade to the 7, and the I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that the obvious upgrade path is going to be the X. For early adopters, why would you not skip the 8 and go right to the X?

Totally agree with you. I also see the iPhone 8 as basically the iPhone 7s, and the iPhone X as the iPhone 9. I am not sure why they went with this naming convention and what upside they think they are getting from this, considering the confusion they have created. One of the major issues that Apple had before Steve Jobs came back to Apple after the NexT years, was that they had too many product lines. I feel we are heading back in that direction and this is very expensive ....

Of course, if you're upgrading from anything older than an iPhone 7, the improvements in the camera and the overall speed of the phone are going to really impress you.
Not sure there is really much to justify upgrading from the 6s either. Sure the processor and camera are improved, but still the same form factor and 1920x1080 non-native LCD display. Other than the benchmarks scores of the A11 (which of course don't mean that big of an improvement in day-to-day use), I'm not all that impressed.

Plus I'd be forced to run iOS 11 and lose 3D Touch to enter app switcher as well as 32-bit apps and iTunes 12.6 support.

Only if you consider new features to be the only difference... but literally every component was upgraded from the screen to the cameras. I don't think it's fair to say there are no major upgrades outside of wireless charging.
According to apples spec page cameras are the same except for 4k/60 fps
Shiller said larger sensor in keynote but its not mentioned there.

For everyone complaining about the boring recycled design: to get rid of the bezels on the 8 Apple would either have had to move Touch ID to the back of the phone or remove it all together and move to Face ID. But that of course assumes they have ample supply of Face ID components for both the X and the 8. And if Apple did that what would be the point of the X over the 8? Just OLED screen? Also if Apple considers OLED and Face ID the future of iPhone why would they waste time/money on modifying the LCD screens? And for what reason, just so some wouldn’t call the 8 boring?
