iPhone 8 Plus vs the X:

Identical CPU
Identical GPU
Identical RAM (3GB)
Nearly identical camera
Superior battery in the 8 Plus

Sure, I'd love to get it all in a smaller package, but it's not worth an extra $300 to me. Maybe if they'd thrown in AirPods I'd go for it...

Basically, the 8 Plus is the apex, the pinnacle of what an iPhone with a Home Button will ever be. Refined, tested and true. The X is a prototype, a cool trick that points in the direction Apple is moving, but will take a couple more models to get *just* right.

The base model 8 Plus is still $1200 after tax. For a phone I'll keep 2-3 years. If I spend $1500 on the X, I'll feel like I need to go the full 3 years before upgrading to get my money's worth. I'm trying to remind myself that this won't be the last iPhone I own, just my 4th iPhone, with many more to come. I'll have Face ID 2 years from now when it's been perfected.

Prices in Canadian dollars.

This comment nails it. My sentiments exactly. Too many people look down upon the iPhone 8 series because it looks the same as the iPhone 6 / 6S / 7 but there are quite a few little changes underneath the hood that add up to an overall kickass upgrade. Even though iPhone 7 / 7 Plus users don't need to upgrade to an iPhone 8 series, I personally think it's a much bigger jump upgrading from the iPhone 7 series to 8 series than it is going from an iPhone 8 series to iPhone X.

I’m on my second 6, my first one had a bulging battery, and I think my second one is starting to show signs of going down the same path. I have two smart battery cases that I blow through most days... I’m headed towards an upgrade, just not a pre-order day one launch. I’ll end up with either a 7 or 8 depending on how long this 6 lasts. I really think the X is going to be a guinea pig situation-at least from the aspect of third party developers navigating around the notch... I was going through the Tech Specs pages while waiting for the store to come back up and noticed the phrasing when calling out the spec for the display size, about Hotwire the screen rounds along the case, so it’s not a true diagonal, but if it were it would be 5.85”... I’ll wait till apps have time to adjust to the notch, at least the ones in my work flow.
This year iphones is the biggest split between model 8 buyers and x buyers.

Nobody cares about iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. It's great to see honestly. Shows that the greediness has a max. The same design for four years in a row, must be a new record.
I do! iPhone X too big for me. The Plus was too big for me and the X is even bigger.

Marketing simply doesn't work like that.

The longer you wait, there more competitive noise there is in the market. Unless there is no competition (i.e. Tesla), Apple faces real risk of a decrease in hype and attention.
There's not a single phone coming out this year that's gonna out hype the iPhone 10. This is a device that's been rumored and hyped up since last year. The demand for the 10 will be insane come late October. Hell just based on the delivery dates for the 8, it's clear that the overwhelming majority of people are waiting for the Ten.

iPhone 8 Plus 256GB Gold and a Space Gray Series 3 Watch, both arriving Friday, Sep 22.

The pre-qualification process for the iPhone Upgrade Program made it smooth as silk. Plus shipping back the old phone is much better than waiting in line for my appointment at the store last year.

The main target is U.S. and China.

Last year, the revenue from China alone was bigger than Europe.

I hate to be blunt, but the UK isn't on Apple's radar. Look at where Tim Cook and Elon Musk spend most of their time during business trips.

I don't think you understand business. Tim and Elon spend more time in China because they don't have China. China is a global superpower that is fast adopting Western trends, much more so now than ever before. Indeed, China is bigger than the US, more powerful than the US and could eat the US for breakfast.

The UK still has iPhone 8 stock left, we certainly are on Apple's radar.

I also think there are some people that don't want to get an 8 or 8+ because they want something new, but don't like the fact that is no touch id on the X... I think some are opting to sit this one out and others are jumping ship. Apple will sell a lot of the X version no doubt about it. I got the 8+ and it will look just like my 6 Plus, but I am ready to upgrade and I am really just not interested in a phone without Touch ID. I don't think I am alone.

The X is smaller...

As for the person earlier saying Touch ID is easier to unlock your phone while driving, I can only hope you don’t end killing anyone you psycho.

You do realize that even though the iPhone X has a bigger screen vs the iPhone 8 Plus, the actual physical of the X is smaller than the 8 Plus. Quite a bit smaller.

That’s what I thought as well. It’s barely bigger than the iPhone 8. Just had the larger screen

50 mins into pre order and I can still get a release day / store pick up for all models in the UK. Wow

iPhone X pre orders are going to be the hunger games by the look of things

Apparently... who wants to wait that long? Other than dedicated buyers.
I tend to agree with you... I think the majority will be headed towards the X with (most likely) limited supply. I think Apple will likely have their last event before the holidays prior to X pre-orders to “remind” folks and re-hype, while showing off HomePod and iMac Pro before the holiday rush.

I’ve learned after a few purchases to wait for the ‘tock’ or rev B/C, faster TouchID, Can’t wait to see the improvements come next year.

I did not realize that. I’ll be happy with the 8. I actually really like Touch ID. Wish the X had it.

If I was Tim, I wouldn't even announce x model till later this year. It might piss people off, but it would tend to maximixe sales on both models.

I'm guessing this is because the UK isn't cranking out competing smartphones with "borrowed" design features or controlling the market to make it more difficult for foreign competition.
