Corect me if I am wrong, but I don't think apple builds the modems. I don't think anyone supports it yet.
Qualcomm X16 and X20 modems already support it.
The LG V30 uses a Qualcomm X16 modem and supports Band 71.

Not sure why Samsung didn't enable it on the Note 8. It has the same X16 modem.

Perhaps they should offer to climb a pole and install the equipment. For some reason, Peter Cohen thinks "there simply aren't enough people in the industry who can climb the towers, install the new hardware, test it and get it working for them."

Perhaps re-train those coal miners into something modern and useful?

There are no existing devices that support T-Mobile's new spectrum at this time. Like Apple's newest devices, for example, Samsung's Galaxy S8 and new Galaxy Note 8 do not offer support.
Bottom Line. That's it. End of story. Band 71 isn't going to see any real rollout for 3 years. Apple has consistently added carrier coverage and I'm sure that they'll do the same with Band 71 when it warrants it.

The band wasn't even finalized till a couple of months ago. There was no way this was making it in the 2017 iPhones.
Bingo.

wow, some comments here are just outrageous for suggesting they’d cancel an order over something so small that doesn’t really affect a lot of people and even if it did affect you, it would make more sense to switch carriers, not phones...

What drives me crazy is that T-Mobile is unwilling to implement band 12 where I live, even though I'm surrounded by band 12 in neighboring counties. When I called them last spring, they said they would upgrade to band 12 by the end of the summer. So I called them again the other day to ask what was up because the service on my iPhone 7 is still not great and draining my battery much faster than Verizon ever did, and they said that they're actually upgrading right now, but it's to this 600MHz crap that nobody can use yet. I asked if they were also installing the 700MHz band 12 stuff that they said they would, and they said no, but mentioned something about maybe 1850MHz? I can't remember exactly, but I don't think that band really helps with indoor reception as much as 700MHz. It's cool that they're trying to future proof, but why did they buy all this 700MHz spectrum and not fully implement it? Their customers are suffering now and don't care if their network might be better at some point when we buy a new phone in the future. Both the 6s and 7 support it now!

Since I follow the FCC routinely, I can tell everyone here that the cell phone manufacturers knew that Band 71 and some others were going to auctioned off over 2 years ago, so regardless of T-Mobile's announcement time, somebody was going to be using it by now, so this notion that they didn't know is pure bunk. In the US, all TV channels over Channel 37 were all auctioned off for mobile use. Since it was a public auction of the public's airwaves, this has been known for years. They simply chose not to support it for whatever reason. That is the point you should be arguing.
