Well, at least we know how it looks, most of the features and the price. This way the price won’t sting as much when Apple officially announces it.

Why on earth are people moaning?

It's meant to be their special edition iPhone and it's priced around the same as the top end iPhone 7+ ($969 before tax) currently is.

If you don't want to pay premium prices then it's probably not a great idea to go for the special premium model.

With that logic i would just slap a premium tag on anything in any market. iPhones always used to be updated in the past without drastically raising the price. Now they r pulling the same crap as on the iPad „Pro“ line

It will be interesting to see what people on the upgrade programme say as it will be a hefty increase on their monthly payments and either they stay with what they've got and pay off the balance or upgrade to the new phone with increased payments for 20 months

It can cost whatever they want, and I will still see you in the line.

Cheers until September guys :p

I don't do lines. I will wake up at like 1:58 am and zombie my way to a preorder, drooling, mumbling, and incoherent like a normal person. Then wait by the door on delivery day and pounce on delivery dude while crying. Like normal.

The Apple brand has always been geared to wealthy customers. If a person doesn't have the money for Apple stuff there's a dozen other companies offering a similar and in some cases better product for less.

At what point do phones become too expensive?
At launch, the sky's the limit. Remember the scalpers who were clogging up stores and snappping up all the new phones? Then selling them for double, sometimes offshore? Apple wants that money for itself. (Frankly, I don't blame them)

After a month or two - once the silly money's been mopped up - Apple will give other retailers permission to start running discounts and deals. The smart money will wait until then.

Apple tried a ridiculous price hike once, remember the Watch Edition? Seems like that didn't really pan out.
So, I'm guessing there's a limit as to what people think is fair for a unit they'll replace every 2 or 3 years.

Yeah, sure, they could price it $3000 but then sales will be pretty slow I recon.

At what point do phones become too expensive?

"The owner of Carphone Warehouse and Dixons has warned that more expensive mobile phone handsets and lower EU roaming charges will hurt its profits."

"Dixons Carphone said customers were not upgrading their phones as frequently because handsets had risen in price."

They are, of course, upbeat about the iPhone 8 - but then, they would say that, wouldn't they?

I'm sure they'll sell shedloads of iPhone 8s while they're the next big thing - the question is, how many people will want to upgrade those $1000 in 18 months time?

The $64,000 question (or 64 iPhone question) is what will the new iPhone do that last year's model won't? If the face recognition can be made seamless: i.e. you don't have to consciously mug at the phone for 3 seconds to unlock it, then maybe.

I am expecting UK prices to start at £799 for the 64gb, £899 for 256gb and £1020 for 512mb.

I think you'll find that you've forgot to add 20% VAT to that. $1 = £1 is a pretty good rule of thumb nowadays.

I'm obviously missing something here... but are people *really* so lazy as to not want to physically plug their chargers into their phones rather than just lay it down and have it charge wirelessly? That would reduce the cost a bit if that feature was removed. I wouldn't care that other makers are doing it - it's something for something's sake at an extra something cost.

These prices man. It doesn't even make sense. Like, at all. $1000 for a bloody smartphone, come on.
All hangs on the fact that people WANT it. They don't really need it, but they want it and they buy it. Don't buy and let them know. If enough people do that pricing will be adjusted.

Prices in the EU if the $999 for 64Gb rumor is true:

64Gb - €1189 ($1414)
256Gb - €1299 ($1533)
512Gb - €1409 ($1663)

YOU AMERICANS SHOUDL STOP COMPLAINING IMMEDIATELY!

Even if the salaries are higher in the EU, these prices are still immoral to ask here!
1200 EUR is not that much these days, but on the other hand it's a lot.

I think Apple are about to find out. Though their ignorance and greed knows no bounds.

I know I'm probably asking a lot from this forum, but look at little deeper than simply "greed". This isn't Apple simply pushing the price of the iPhone up.

If the phone is too expensive, don't buy it. That's what Apple are better a lot of people will do, allowing them to only need to make a few million of the iPhone 8/Edition/Pro.

Remember how back ordered AirPods were, despite them selling (relatively) few compared to iPhone? Now Apple want to build in technology like a 3D facial recognition sensor, which is as difficult to make as AirPods. They don't want them on every iPhone because then they would have to produce one million sensors per day!

What on earth could you use 512GB of storage on a phone for? How much offline 4K porn do you watch?
Ha ha I don't do porn. I have a girlfriend who satisfies all my needs.
I may not need 512 GB of storage but my current 256 GB phone is 80% full with movies and music. Besides I think that most people go for 256 gig so it will be harder to get and I will get most of the money back on the 512gb model when I sell it on next year

Over a $1000 for 64GB? HELL NO, to the no no no!!

I've got a 64GB iPhone and have been struggling with the space for the last couple of years and made it my personal objective to never buy anything below 128GB.

For that price, the least I'd expect is 512GB and no ugly bar at the top of the screen. Apple are really pushing it, especially for us folk in the UK where the price is the same as the US with the $ sign switched to the £.

I still can’t believe that they will also release another facelift of the iPhone 6 as the „standard model”.
Back in the day there was a real new iPhone every two years for about the same price as the last one.
Now you have to spend even more to get the new model.

For me it is iPhone 8/Pro or nothing. I will definitely not buy another iPhone 6 update.

I swallowed the idea of iPhone 7 being an update to the 6 because there was an "iPhone 8 super cycle" coming. If Apple knew the 7 design would stick around for 2 years, why not be more ambitious with it, and at least begin to address the bezels? Or release the glass/metal design rumoured for the 2017 iPhone 7S?

Well because there's not much 'premium' about this phone, it is a logical upgrade (bigger screen, better camera, wireless charging). Apple figured out a way to charge more for what should have been the iPhone 7 or 7s, which is a dick move.

I'd say that's why people are pissed.
