You a 3 figure phone guy, I am a 4 figure phone guy. Yeaaaaahhh Yeahhhhhhhh!! Our phone is iPhone, our phone is iphone ... well point to the android then

Compare the latest iPad Pro and MacBook Pro prices in both US and UK. UK prices are just 50 cheaper, and it doesn't seem to matter if it's $1300 or $2000, the UK prices are just 50 below in each case. Since those products came out the £ has fallen further against the $... so it's certainly likely that we'll see one-to-one pricing with the phones. Even if not, the current model would mean that if the US price is $999 then the UK starting price will be £949.

Well yes I don't deny that Apple can do whatever they like with their pricing strategy. I guess we will know in less than two weeks

With a price like this, it's fairly likely that the phone will be called "iPhone Pro", not iPhone 8.

I don't understand what 'pro' even means. Professional? As in something used by someone to earn a living? As in my 'Pro' toothbrush which I guess is aimed at people who get paid to clean their teeth?

it's just a meaningless and overused marketing gimmick which I thought Apple would have risen above. Although their completely nonsensical use of 'Edition' is no better.

Well didn't the Note 8 get announced at $960? Not exactly a big jump to this rumor - and they are the "flagship" models in the end so it doesn't surprise me too much... not that these are cheap by any stretch

Most Phones in this "modern era" have always been at least $800, it's just that the cost was hidden by 2 yr contracts. At the end of the day while the cost is RIDICULOUSLY expensive at $1,000. Most people won't pay that because carriers will offer decent deals and with your trade in, you'll probably get at least $300 off whatever the final price of this thing is.

Going by past iPhone releases it probably won't be widely available until next April or May anyway, at which time there will be even bigger deals. Look at carrier deals for the 7 now - $300 off + plus $250 trade in means you can get a 7 now for almost $500. I also got the Virgin Mobile $1 deal so I'm saving $900 on my Cell bill which covers the cost. :)

While I don't talk on the phone much, I use it for everything else - Camera, iPad (I don't need another one now that iPhone screens are bigger), MP3 player, and Voice Recorder. So for me the price is sort of worth it.

I’m still using my iPhone 6, so this year it’s time for the big upgrade. I’ll bite the bullet and go for a 64GB iPhone 8 - trading in the 6 might take some of the sting out of the cost.

Yeah, on the white phone it's especially ugly.

It's like the designers were given some arbitrary requirement that the bezel must be no more than a few millimeters all round. So this carbuncle is the stylistic contortion they settled on in order to address the engineering realities while still meeting a nonsensical requirement that adds negligible functionality to the product.

If the leaks are accurate and there is this screen cutout at the top, it’s not Apple designers driving the decision, but rather Apple trying to give consumers what they want (or think they want). I don’t think there is a good, functional reason to go bezel free, other than it can look “cool”, but because other manufacturers are moving this direction, it’s almost impossible for Apple not to do similarly.

Hopefully at some point in the future, they will figure out how to make sensors and cameras work through the active screen, which at that point you could have a bezel free device as sensors and camera modules could be almost anywhere behind the screen.

Haha analysts have one warped idea of what the term 'premium' actually means!
It does NOT mean a premium price for a device with low non expandable storage and a potential wireless charging pad you pay extra for...

And considering all the tech rumoured to be used in the 8 already exists.. that's not an excuse either.
You wait till those storage tests are made, I bet if their is a 64GB model it's storage speeds will be slower then the higher models...

Yeah, not premium.. just more excessive price gouging from the fruit company...

My guess for Brits...

£899 for 64GB (£14.05 per GB)
£1099 for 256GB (£4.25 per GB)
£1499 for 512GB (£2.92 per GB)

Why on earth are people moaning?

It's meant to be their special edition iPhone and it's priced around the same as the top end iPhone 7+ ($969 before tax) currently is.

If you don't want to pay premium prices then it's probably not a great idea to go for the special premium model.
Because they can.

Same reason you commented and why Apple tests the absolute maximum price they can get away with barely before sales tank.

If the new features and design warrant it I'd consider it. I'll determine that after release and what all you day-one suckers have to say about it. Thank you for your service.

The Apple brand has always been geared to wealthy customers. If a person doesn't have the money for Apple stuff there's a dozen other companies offering a similar and in some cases better product for less.

That was true in the past yes but what allowed Apple to take off over the past 10 years has been ensuring they have affordable models for those on a more modest budget e.g Mac mini, iPod shuffle, iPhone SE. This has allowed people to get in on the ground floor when they were, say, a student, once hooked there would be a decent chance they'd buy more expensive gear later on in their lives.

That approach thus far, has allowed Apple to become what it is today, an almost perfect balance (for them) of market share and share of profit. It's market share (in part) that allows them to keep iTunes going and the App Store going, enabling them to offer content to their customers and it's the content, in part, that keeps customers coming back. The design, software, content, market share and profit all rely on each other. IF Apple were to shy away from this, I think they would come unstuck quite quickly. I don't believe they are going down that path though, there is still an entry level iPad, the Mac mini still exists, the iPhone SE still exists. However, the cheapest Apple product (that's not an accessory) is definitely more expensive today then it was a year ago, with the demise of the iPods shuffle and nano.

Apple need to tread a careful path, appeal to too small of a market and that perfect balance will be lost. For now I think they're getting it right, hopefully they won't succumb to hubris or complacency.

So at £1k we are talking £41.67 on a 2 year plan here without any air time. Sadly my work only pays out up to £35/month...

That price doesn't surprise me to be honest. Based on those prices, I am expecting UK prices to start at £799 for the 64gb, £899 for 256gb and £1020 for 512mb.
I guess I will go for the 512mb as I have budgeted for £1100

I will expect the $ will just be changed to a £
