Over a $1000 for 64GB? HELL NAW, to the no no no!!

I've got a 64GB iPhone and have been struggling with the space for the last couple of years and made it my personal objective to never buy anything below 128GB.

For that price, the least I'd expect is 512GB and no ugly bar at the top of the screen. Apple are really pushing it, especially for us folk in the UK where the price is the same as the US with the $ sign switched to the £ sign. £999 is equivalent to $1281.52 in USD, we're getting ripped off as it is.

When Tim Cook announces the prices at the Keynote:

Ha ha I don't do porn. I have a girlfriend who satisfies all my needs.
I may not need 512 GB of storage but my current 256 GB phone is 80% full with movies and music. Besides I think that most people go for 256 gig so it will be harder to get and I will get most of the money back on the 512gb model when I sell it on next year

A year ago people were still buying the 16GB model, I'm on the 64GB model and I have half of it filled up.
It seemed strange to me that someone could fill up 512GB of space on a phone.

Based on those prices, I am expecting UK prices to start at £799 for the 64gb, £899 for 256gb and £1020 for 512mb.

The base model will definitely be £999. How could it be anything else? As the article says, the UK prices now mirror the US prices. The current top-end iPhone 7 plus is £929 so we can assume the iPhone 7s Plus would also be £929. So how could the new Pro models, a whole tier above this, be lower? They can't, so the Pro will be starting at $999 in the US and £999 in the UK.

There will be a price point for everyone.

iPhone SE - $399
iPhone 7 - $549
iPhone 7+ - $649
iPhone 7S - $749
iPhone 7S+ - $869
iPhone 8 - $999

The iPhone 7 is almost a downgrade - nicer screen but no more headphone jack, new colour but it scratches easily, faster processor but no more physical home button. The SE is tiny and the 7S will most likely not be a huge upgrade.

The 8 is what the 7/7s should have been, instead of apple having a ton of models and giving us less stuff for more money.

You've touched upon a good point. This phone originally leaked as "the camera, Touch ID sensor and speaker will all be under the display" https://www.macrumors.com/2016/05/11/2017-iphone-edge-to-edge-display/

Now we're seeing a much less ambitious phone (which might not even have Touch ID under the display, the most "realistic" of all those futuristic rumours), which apparently can't be mass produced, meaning we're also getting an iPhone 7S.

Frustrating, to say the least!

I want an Apple exec to stand on stage and show us something that even the most die-hard Samsung/Android fans will admit is years ahead of the competition.

At what point do phones become too expensive?

I guess we will know it after they will post the quantinity of phones they sold :) Im keeping my money for a white 64gb or an 256 gb model depending on the pricing. From where I come from,Poland, the 7 plus phones wich were out a year ago were very hard to get on the premiere day. Guess the same situation will be in this year, sucks

I can't see Apple matching pounds for dollars. They haven't done that with the current models

Please stop with that bump-out at the top of the screen. Absolutely inexcusable design.
Yeah, on the white phone it's especially ugly.

It's like the designers were given some arbitrary requirement that the bezel must be no more than a few millimeters all round. So this carbuncle is the stylistic contortion they settled on in order to address the engineering realities while still meeting a nonsensical requirement that adds negligible functionality to the product.

512 GB iPhone 8 Pro €1,399 (est.) + 512GB iPad Pro €1,229 = €2,698 (est.) paid by Debit Card. Ouch! Just as well my iOS update schedule is this time next year together with all the improvements to both devices. :)

Compare the latest iPad Pro and MacBook Pro prices in both US and UK. UK prices are just 50 cheaper, and it doesn't seem to matter if it's $1300 or $2000, the UK prices are just 50 below in each case. Since those products came out the £ has fallen further against the $... so it's certainly likely that we'll see one-to-one pricing with the phones. Even if not, the current model would mean that if the US price is $999 then the UK starting price will be £949.

What is this discussion about a “premium” model. iPhones were always premium priced. This price is not premium, its extrotionate.

No there is a standard upgrade set of phones this cycle with usual prices and a third 'anniversary' phone that is 999. All have new designs but the premium one has the edge display and a few other things.

Remember when the original iPhone was released? No subsidy and priced at $500-$600, which I promptly went out and bought two of them.

Doubled pricing in the span of 10 years may seem a bit excessive, but when viewed in the same vein as other high value complex items, like a car, you can better appreciate both why the prices have increased steadily and why more and more people are willing to pay the price each year.

There is no doubt that some company will eventually disrupt this higher end of the smartphone market, putting pressure on Apple, but there will always be a group of people willing to pay more for something different. That is, after all, what made Apple what they are today.
