Based on things I'm hearing that the banking industry is seemingly sceptical regarding FaceID or similar technologies for payment authorisation. I can see a lot of banks pulling out of ApplePay or not allowing payments via iPhone with such a technology until Apple provides security as though as TouchID which is pretty much proven to be secure (yeah, I know it is not 100% secure).

What if HomePod will have facial recognition? It's possible it wasn't ready for demo at the keynote and why it's not being released till December... why would a smart speaker be taking so long anyway..

Again, the phone is in my pocket, so "hey Siri" does not work. The camera can't see me, and the mic can't hear me. Tried it today just to double check. I've got no problem adding a facial recognition protocol, I just hope TouchID sticks around, for safety when I'm driving.

Fiddling with your phone in your pocket while you’re driving is not safe. Get a dash mount, for the sake of other road users.

It stays in my pocket for the sake of other road users, so there is no dash display for distraction. And I don't fiddle with it. I just push the home button to summon Siri, and the touchID. When I had it in my dash mount, It was there to look at, which is less safe. That's a real benefit of Siri for me, is eyes off operation. Maybe someday I can afford a car with Siri Eyes Free built in.

Siri development. The hardware is easy compared to the software.

A $349 speaker won't have cameras. Not in 2017.

The headphone jack on the iPhone went away because it's not really needed with wireless earphones, but on the Mac people use it for editing purposes whether that's audio or video.

You can use wireless with macs :) Same pros/cons apply. Fact is wired is till superior , as you stated, having a delay editing video is not ideal....;)

It can't work this way.
I guess it would be similar to Apple Watch, you double tap and is ready to go. With FaceID you unlock the phone, enter Wallet then place the phone near the reader to pay and you have an amount of seconds before the authentication expires

Let's see how it works out. If the next SE phone has Touch ID, that's my next phone, I'm over this gimmick crap be it Samsung or apple

You might be right, but I doubt it. All the rumors are saying that Apple is rushing for a solution to the Touch ID issue.

The rumors might be true, but Apple may also be doing something like what they did with the original iPhone: develop 2 interface solutions simultaneously. They tried very hard to bring the click-wheel to the iPhone but hit many constraints, in the end they managed to make their preferred touchscreen solution work. I'm seeing some possible parallels here. Once they are sure the fingerprint sensor under the display wasn't going to work for whatever reason, they probably went all in on the facial recognition.

Has anyone seen this? It appears Reddit have had issues, https://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/6rkgv2/a_note_about_leaks_on_rapple_from_ufoxconninsider/ the leaker has proved mostly accurate in the past so next months iPhone event will be telling.

Those who are desperate for Touch ID from all reports sounds like the 7s is the best option

Personally I'm not bothered about it because I know that if Apple are planning to replace it, they make whatever is replacing it just as good. Next month is gong to be very interesting.

This might be true.

Maybe this is why there are so many conflicting rumors.

I keep it in my pocket while driving and have Siri read and send messages frequently.

So if you’re interacting with Siri by voice, then the mic can hear you. If the mic can hear you, then it’s possible to ID you by voice. If it can’t hear you, and the phone is in your pocket, there’s little that you can do with the phone today without looking at it.

Nonetheless, CarPlay will cover the use case you’re pointing out. It’s the safest way to interact with your phone while you’re driving. If your car doesn’t have CarPlay, like all other new features, eventually you start to miss out when you have older hardware.

Hey Siri can’t hear you but you push the button to summon Siri. This story is unraveling rapidly.
What do you want, a video? I summon Siri, and that engages the car's Bluetooth mic. Just because it's different from your setup doesn't mean it's not accurate.

Yeah, CarPlay I'm sure would be great. The mic in my car is not active until I summon Siri. Otherwise the car's Bluetooth is in play for bluelink stuff. It's been great with my iPhone 6s. I'd just hate to lose the functionality.
