Dunno. 4 years ago I doubt anyone wouldn't have said that Apple would be pushing exactly the same design ....... the 8 is just a glass version of the 6

Dunno..... Apple has been very slow updating thier products , most the phones on sale have massive bessels ;) they built a better S8.....for double the price. Problem is they are not leading..... in this regard. Not to mention the mess that is user experience across the range , touch bar on some MacBooks, touchid on some devices , faceid on the flagship , some new computers come with assortment of ports, MacBook pros USB-c ..... it's a cluster **** . They need to go back to basics and sort out the user experience across the range .

I totally agree.

I'd really love to buy the USB-C cable so I could use my MBP charger to charge the phone and not need a second wall charger. I could also plug the phone into my MBP without needing a dongle. But then when I am at my desk my iMac is regular USB so I need a different cable. Then also when I plug my phone in at night, the USB ports on the socket are regulars. There's 2 different cables just for phones and the USB-C to lightening is £25.

I also need a dongle for the headphones on the iPhone but not on iMac or MBP as it has a jack. Perhaps going wireless would work? Definitely tempted but again another £100+ on headphones.

It all sounds very petty but I always knew if I took a Rugged drive, my MBP and a cord it would all work. Now I have to check I have all the rights bit for each device. It's annoying and definitely takes up time and energy to make sure I have everything I need. I can't even buy the USB-C versions of all the cables I need as I still need the regular versions for home although I am trying to compile a travel pack with all of my absolutely necessary cords for my MBP without needing a dongle.

I dislike dongles as I've done lots of testing and found they slow data transfer. It's all very annoying.

And they will be coming back once they realize the X is not usable with one hand. Reachability is gone and they moved the control center gesture to the very top.

You know what, I hadn't even considered the reachability not being there. I use that a fair amount too, I'm still going to go for the X and see how I get on.

I'm really hoping banks update their apps to allow Face id as I don't remember any passwords and the ease of touch id has been fantastic!

I feel exactly like you.

I have tried to mitigated this current mess by getting AirPods for gym, and returned my New MacBook Pro for a 2015 unit. I am not buying into the new post jobs products, and will remain with apple while my current products are still supported. I have a good-3-5 years, to see how much more Tim messes up the product line.

I have a late 2014 iMac 5K and although it is excellent, my new 2016 touch bar MBP is in some ways faster.

I hope that either the next iMac or iMac Pro will have some USB-C ports, then I could replace all of my regular USB cables with USB-C, then there would be absolutely no risk of picking up the wrong cables or forgetting something. But for now it feels like I'm in limbo split across 2 platforms.

I have a pair of Beats Pro Studio headphones which are a fair few years old but they're perfect for at my desk and on trains/planes. I have a smaller in-ear pair that I got for free from LG which I use in the gym and when walking around. Of course, I could use the set that came with the phone but then those won't plug into my MBP. I usually take both the Beats Pro and In-Ear headphones with me when travelling but with the iPhone 8 Plus I'll need a lightening dongle for headphones or I take the Beats Pro, LG In Ear AND Lightening ones or I go wireless and still take a dongle if I want to use my Beats Pro with my phone... :(

Three Mobile: The Iphone 8 is being advertised with 50% off the first 6 months of your (2 year) contract.

Never seen that before tbh

Nobody uses reachability
I do, all the time. You can't use a Plus one-handed without it unless you have bigger than average hands.

Never in a million years would the Apple of old have allowed this complete mess. Things used to "just work". They certainly don't now - the customer isn't at the heart of anything with them anymore. In fact, the customer is barely in sight.

The more complex a system is and the more parts there are, the more likely it is to go wrong. The modern apple eco system is 100's of times more complex than it was 10 years ago.

I wouldn't say flopping but there's little differences between the 7 and couple that with the fact they're still selling the 7, its the perfect recipe for a lower rollout

Excellent point, I just ordered two 7 pluses for my grandparents. They said they didn’t need the fanciest new phone, so they’re went with the 7.

I never used reachability and Control Center on my iPhone 7 is difficult to pop up anywhere other than the home screen.

LOL.. 'fact'...

I probably use it in excess of about 70 times a day on average.
Lets be honest Apple didn't take it away because people were using it. Their data probably told them that reachability wasn't something people were using enough to justify keeping it.

I was referring to, frankly, ludicrous issues such as new MacBooks being unable to have a wired connection with an iPhone out of the box. Or the earphones bundled with the 7 being unable to connect to a MacBook. There is nothing complex about supplying users with the accessories required to do such basic things - particularly when it's their own design choices that create such faff.

The data might have been very different in a few months time when a significant portion of their users have moved from 4.7" screens to the iphone X.

Hmmm not sure. I think it was removed because the home button was removed and the screen being used didn't have a designated area for reachability built in when it was developed. The headphone jack wasn't removed because data suggested 'people weren't using it', it was removed because they didn't have a solution to keeping it with the larger home button module. Compromises were made in both instances and it's not popular with everybody.

yeah but with the headphone jack they created a work around and gave away a connector for those who needed it. So...

You know the 8s aren't selling well when the SIM Free version is available for preorder on day one.
