Why is my Watch still tethered to my iPhone even when I have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth off sinceupdating to watchOS 4 and iOS 11??
The switches in control center don’t turn off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. They disconnect connected devices but not all of them and only temporarily. To turn Bluetooth and Wi-Fi off, you have to do it from Settings.

With iOS 11 that activates the SOS mode.

I'm so confused. I thought pressing five times on the power button did that.

Or is that clicking the heels on your ruby slippers while chanting "There's no place like home"?

Oh wait, no, it's "You put your left foot in, you put your left foot out, you put your left foot in and you shake it all around, you do the hokey Pokey...". No that's not it either.

Damn you, Apple! It used to be so simple!

The iPhone 7 and 8 has the same physical layout so why have they broken consistency?

Makes no sense to me either. o_O

Pressing the sleep/wake button 5 times rapidly activates SOS on the 7 Plus.

It does that on the iPhone 8 also. You can toggle it off.

Here is the settings screen from my iPhone 8.

Interestingly, with it off, pressing the side button five times still disables TouchID, but no SOS screen comes up.

On one hand, I can see your point, on the other, I remember a huge number of people ten years ago who were absolutely certain that virtual keyboards were the devil's tool and would never work, or be as quick as hardware keyboards, and were just a fad. Look how that turned out. Apple is tasked with finding button combinations for a few things (like SOS and hard restart) that are possible to do while being nearly impossible to do accidentally. There was nothing intuitive about "hold side button and home for 10 seconds" to power off, nor about using the same combination for a split second to get a screen shot. The new ways aren't worse, just different (and they had legit reasons for changing them). We'll adapt, and in a few months it won't be a big deal.

What the...?

What was wrong with pressing the side button and volume button simultaneously?

Ridiculous combination.
The emergency/SOS activation....

Migration to new OS and hardware. Start the adjustment now.

Oh I'm just having a bit of fun anyway. Not really worried. :D

This is quite the problematic launch.

Good thing The Ten wasn't launched concurrently. It probably would have added even more headaches for Apple, USA.

I had to checked while in the AT&T store the salesman kept talking about the 'X', the 'X', when apple wants it to be known as the Ten. That's a missed Mark, as well.
“X” also means “error” in students assignments. ;)
So I recon iPhone X is a wrong iPhone. Or not an iPhone. Whatever.
[doublepost=1506210349][/doublepost]Hmm? Why not just five rapid clicks?
What about removing all god damn buttons and then figure out a gesture on the god damn screen to activate god damn SOS feature? This is god damn insane!

It’s literally like an old video game cheat code.

And what kind of name is “side button” 3/4 (or 3/3 on iPhone X) of the buttons are on the side. Confusing. We all know people will continue referring to it as the power (or lock) button.

It takes courage to take something simple and make it much more complicated.

IPhone X procedure:
Vol up
Vol dn
Vol up
Vol dn
Side

Wax on
Wax off
Sand floor
Paint fence
Sweep leg
Dude, that's the fatality move in Mortal Combat X

I guess they want to keep it the new format going forward on new phones sold. So seeing that the 8 and X are new phones they updated for these. The 7 is old so they won’t change it for the millions of people who already own one.

TimMAY says
You put your right hand in,
You put your right hand out,
You put your right hand in,
And you shake it all about.
You do the Hokey Pokey And you turn yourself around
That's what it's all about. :D

But seriously though, I think this is going to go down as one of the worst Apple launches of all time for both the 8 and the X. But we'll see.

The 7 is available in their current lineup and is hardly “old”.

Go figure.
