Good to see the design leaks were spot on. I guess it’s confirmed now...straight from Apple themselves.

If this new phone turns out to have a smaller usuable screen than my 7 plus, than I won't get it.

I'll either keep the 7 plus for another year or go for the Note 8.

Yeah, Face detection (FaceID?) is way less convenient than TouchID. If the 8 doesn't have TouchID, then it's a downgrade from the 7 in my book (and the 7 was a downgrade from the 6s!). So if it truly is the case that the iPhone 8 won't have TouchID, I will not be purchasing it.

I think the mockups and rumors suggest the "8" would have just as much screen real estate as the 7+. If you take away the status bar then I guess it would be marginally smaller, yes. Depending on if TouchID goes away or stays, there is also speculation that there could be some dedicated space at the bottom for TouchID, although that is yet to be revealed, obviously. I think that part is going to be kept hidden until the official reveal, or maybe a few days before it could be leaked. That is really the deciding factor for me - TouchID and if/how it is implemented into the iPhone "8".

Also, I'm trying to figure out how watching videos is going to be on a phone with rounded corners like that.... Will the video just be displayed with cropped corners?? That's really awkward....

We'll see what happens, I just hope its not small like the 4.7", I can't go back to small screen phones anymore!

I also expect Samsung go all out on the Note 8 to make up for last year's disaster. Might be tempted to switch, had all the notes from Note 1 to 5. Gonna be an interesting couple of months.

So, it’s confirmed. This is the new iPhone design! Not that exciting :(

I like it. And if they get face detection right then it will work better than TouchID during the humid summer months.

My concern is that it will be November or December before I can get my hands on one. I'm used to getting my iPhones on launch weekend.

We'll see. Getting rid of the giant chin and forehead would be welcome, but at the cost of TouchID....not sure.

Seems like it'd be easier to "compel" someone to unlock their device with FaceID than with a passcode or TouchID. Like, "Oops... did I just point the sensor at your face and unlock the phone?? Oh how handy..."

Not a fan. Prankster friends could have a field day with this.

Or police holding your phone to your face to unlock your device. I believe it was (in the U.S.) deemed unlawful for police to force someone to unlock their phone with a passcode without a warrant. Not sure how that works with facial recognition and/or fingerprints....or ANY biometrics, for that matter. But it seems much easier to "accidentally" wave the phone in front of the users face. Especially with how quickly these technologies work now.

I was actually wondering when someone would use that argument.
Imagine how the FBI would use that ! I'm sure Apple made this solutions so they would please the FBI, no more lawsuit !

If this works anywhere near as quickly as the current fingerprint sensor. I'm all on-board.

Then implement this into Macs also and no need for putting a fingerprint sensor on a keyboard.
Make it to where I can use facial recognition as password replacement as well when installing apps too please.
