I have owned every iPhone since the 3GS and am very much an early adopter. I am really excited to see what Apple can achieve with the iPhone 8, however in the last year or so Ive gotten to the point where I have my own personal limits on how much I spend on a product. So if the iPhone 8 is a wildly priced 'Edition' there is a very high chance I will either not buy it, or buy it but stop upgrading every year after that.

I guess maybe Apple products (and the competitors) are just reaching their peak for me and I may be losing interest. The again the new iPhone may be incredible and get me excited again. Saying that the new Mackbook Pro has taught me not to get my hopes up too high.

The price is off-putting. Back in the days of the 4s I played the "where can I find it" game and wasted a lot of time. I no longer play that game. I like to order phones months after they've been released and it's kinda nice not having to wait.

That said, I've owned OLED phones before (Note 3, Nexus 6, Pixel) - they were ok but their use outside was horrible so I'm not looking forward to that. As long as iOS has a dark theme, I could see OLED working. I always found reading on the IPS screens of an iPhone for long periods of time better than OLED screens.

But these phones are REALLY getting expensive. $44/mo for the Apple Upgrade Plan for my 6s+ kinda hits the limit for me. Really hope this "Edition" iPhone isn't more expensive. But yeah, got my Macbook Air 11 at Best Buy for like $700. My iPad Air 2 was $500? I use both a lot more than my phone. I'll probably be holding onto my 6s+ for a long long time. It's what, $80? for a battery replacement?

I will likely upgrade. But I agree, the installment payments will increase and Apple Care will likely follow increase as well. Hopefully, it's not to steep of a price.

Knowing it's gonna exceed $1000, do you guys think it'll be much more than that like something crazy? $1800? I really hope not..

You realize it will be about the same size as current 4.7 model?

It will be a little bigger, I think.

Apple can't shrink the 5.5" screen down to 4.7" even w/no bezels. And I think having zero bezels will be less than optimal from an usability POV.

Have no fear...$1800 is extreme and unlikely.

Well, this is what Samsung is coming out with. 5.8 and 6.2 screens.

Not sure how Apple fails to meet launch demand every year. It must be intentional at this point with a company this big, with this many resources.

I'll tell you why there is always a shortage.

Look at how many wave 1 countries there are now versus the original few iPhones.

For the 3GS, from Wikipedia

USA, Canada, and six European countries on June 19, 2009

For the 7

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, UAE, the UK, US Virgin Islands and the US.

That is 29 countries for anyone that doesn't want to count.

China being in this list is a huge deal, being there are a billion plus people in the country, how much of the day one supplies do you suppose it earmarked for them alone.

If Apple wanted to get enough phones in the hands of western customers they totally could. Unfortunately, Apple has gone for the "lines around the block, all over the world" route. It's great for marketing and news stories, bad for western customers.

And I think they are making a mistake by not offering a phone that is smaller, but it wouldn't be the first time Samsung bungled the execution.

When are the phone manufacturers going to realize that there is a market for a smaller phone.

Those Samsung phones...there is no way everyone's thumb can cover the whole screen, all four quadrants.

Wait till users actually use the phones...

There's a market, but how big is it? Sony sold a smaller phone for years and no one bought it. Samsung had the Galaxy S Mini phones for years and no one wanted them. From what I understand iPhone SE sales aren't all that strong now that the small group that wanted them have them. So who else is going to buy them?

We'll see how well received the S8 is then.

Not saying 4" is making a strong comeback, but I'll take that over the S8 on size alone.

4.7" is the largest I'll go.

Regardless of sales, the SE is still a fairly strong iPhone with A core demographic. Apple brought the SE back for a reason, because there are consumers that have no interest in a 4.7/5.5 inch iPhone. The SE is popular due to the affordable price point and it offers the current specifications of the 6s. I think we will definitely see a refresh of the SE again in 2018. I previously owned one for six months and it was an outstanding iPhone. I know there are a lot of Content forum members with the SE.

Tim Cook, supply chain genius, set to release AirPods in October, delayed until a few days before x-mas 2016. Fine, engineering problems, some kinda something, fine.

Fast forward approaching mid-March, and still 6 weeks before receiving them from apple.com

I got mine early in January, but :O

A quarter will be nearly wrapped up with massive delays still

Wise people will wait until 2018 and 2019 when all models might become OLED.
[doublepost=1489223089][/doublepost]
and at $1000, its going to be a 'runaway success'

Is the 7 plus a bigger seller than the 7 4.7"? Most iPhone I see are the smaller one.

Please explain how it's 'wise' to wait a further 1 to 2 years and make do with the same phone for up to 3 years because other models 'might' become OLED?

Buy the 4.7" S model instead until the the rest go OLED. It's a shambles Apple is not refereshing the whole line of IPhones anyway. Samsung don't bring out new models with one being a premium price.

Sounds like stupid reasoning to me. If a much better iPhone is out there with features I want on a phone, I'm not going to buy a lesser and smaller screen phone just because they've not updated the screen on all models.

The demand for Jet Black 7+ was already crazy enough. I preordered mine like two hours after the site went live and didn't receive my phone until 3 weeks after launch.

I can't imagine what's in store for the 8.

You realize what Apple is doing or don't you?

We know thru many past cycles that the iPhone gets refreshed in design every once in a while.

Now, Apple wants to charge for the 'privilege' of getting those design refreshes first. Packaged as an anniversary model...the new phone will sell (I have no doubt), but the standard models will get the premium features a year (or more) later.

That's what is shaping up, I think.

price in hong kong for SIM free model with 64GB around USD 1200
price for highest spec model maybe USD 1400

china price around 1.2x HKG price
japan price around 1.1x HKG price

I'm saying Apple is going to charge you more for that privilege.

I get that. Just wasn't sure why you quoted my response to say that.

As for speculation of prices maybe as high as $1800, surely not. I'm sure Apple will want to get as much money as possible out of people, but they have to be careful they don't exclude too many people. I upgrade every year and the cost has never bothered me. But no way I'm willing to pay that much, have to draw the line somewhere.

Of course, it's all just speculation and rumours. The pound being weak is more likely to be the biggest reason behind a price hike.
