Yep, I see it on the camera side of your device in the 3 picture as you tilt it towards the camera. Its all about the angle of the photo.

You keep pedling that line of the angle of the camera almost like we are trying to deceive? Tell me, why would anybody do that? Why would I order a phone , it be perfect but think "I know , ill go on macrumors and try to fool people"?

The gap issue is just that , an issue , an issue that I am not alone in. The theory that its not waterproof blah blah is stupid as Apple make a point in stating its water resistant. I don't want to submerse it in water but I also don't want the hassle of trying to convince Apple that its their shoddy quality control as to why my phone has stopped working and that its not me damaging the phone.

Matt

Please, God no. No more "gate" nonsense. This is really a non-issue and it will remain a non-issue until someone can fully prove that this tiny "gap" actually caused water to leak in.
Same, no more gates! I must say I am worried the X is going to have some major problem due to how new it is. I really hope we don't get some -gate related problem out of it's release.

You have zero proof that this "gap" will cause water to leak into the device. If it was truly such an issue, over 30 devices at the Apple Store would not have the "gap". There is no way that every single assembly line has this defect issue. Its within the margin of error and until someone can prove that it reduces the water resistance, its a non-issue.

Personally, I find it non-issue, but looks like OP has a complaint about it.
I completely agree. Its a non-issue until someone can prove otherwise. There is no way every single assembly line has the same "issue" creating a gap.

The same way you didn't have 6 iPhones that were faulty?? lol

You can't have your argument both ways.

Its not an issue because YOU say it isn't an issue? You are 1 person. There is multiple people saying the same thing about the gap. A bit more credible don't you think!!

As I have mentioned multiple times in the thread. Photo angles are everything. The one showing the gap is clearly at a different angle and therefore cannot be accurately compared. It exaggerates the issue.

As Strelok said. All the seals are on the inside of the phone.
Doesn't matter the angle. I have two eyes. The gap doesn't appear and disappear depending on how I look at it. If I can slip a piece of paper down at least 2-3MM, then there's a gap. And I don't feel comfortable with it's water resistance at that point. I paid $900+ for this phone. I'm not settling on some random person online saying it's sealed and I'm exaggerating. Because if it gets water damaged, I'll be the one to pay for their mistake.

Actually, all 6 of my faulty displays came from the same factory. That was determined by the serial number and Apple Corporate actually reached out to me because of the issue.

There is no way that your phone and the 30 phones in SoCal came off the same assembly line. Guaranteed.

Or, don't bring it near water, like any other electronic device? Its been proven that these phones are sealed from the inside. All you are doing is separating the glass from the outside plastic seal. There is water resistant seal on the inside of the device.

Like my ignored post said, the waterproofing is on the inside portion. The display is glued to the housing, that’s why you need one of those suction cups and a plastic tool to pry it off.

Which you wouldnt have known about but would still have been pi$$ed off and thought it was an issue , just like me

You cant say that , you dont know that for sure , the same thing you are accusing me of , not knowing its an issue.

It does. I can clearly see the seal between the display and frame on the left side of mine, but the right side, I don't see it at all. It seems it goes under the display about half way on top and bottom and non existent on the right side at all.

I guess I'm lucky because I just checked the "gasket" all the way around my 8 Plus with a magnifier and it's absolutely even all the way around. Dodged one! :D

I do hope you get yours sorted out with Apple.

Just had my iPhone 8 Plus delivered and happy for the most part. Only issue I have is that if you look at the phone the left top seems to have a little more gap between the glass and the aluminium than the right top , don't know if that would decrease its waterproofness? I don't plan on getting it wet but you can never say never. 4k 60fps video seems good quality!

Matt
It shouldn't affect waterproofing, cover glass sits on adhesive to seal the surface, sealing is not on the side, check iFixit.com, it is a cosmetic defect only.

I am from India and i have Same problem to my new Iphone 8 plus there's a gap on the right top corner of the phone , it will obviously effect waterproofing of the device and any repair will costs you lots of money so gave it in the service center they might replace or repair my device

It does not affect the water resistant rating because its sealed from the inside of the device. That has been said many times and has been verified by iFixIt tear down.

Off to the service center for you since stores in India dont really do an exchange.

I had a similar gap on my iPhone 8 out of the box. I even had remnants of of dried glue/sealant visible inside the gap (as well as some residue visible on the metal frame, which I was able to wipe off with my finger). I took it to the Apple store and they swapped it out immediately. I was told that no gap should be present and that it was an obvious defect.

My new unit has no gap whatsoever.

Good luck!

Sent mine to Apple and they told me the gap was “normal” (which I doubt) and that it “should not affect waterproofing”. I don’t know, maybe I just got a guy on a bad day or before his break. Their display models also exhibited a gap which leads me to believe that the manufacturing process might not be so good…
