If this is true, it is for the plus model. Or maybe even the plus "edition" model as is being predicted.

Rest assured, the $650 regular model isn't likely to go anywhere.

increase the bill of materials by over $70, which we expect Apple to offset via a $130 price increase

This is the problem with today's world. You can't just be happy with the money you were making before, you have to absolutely gouge the customer at every opportunity. Record profits or nothing. Greed is good, etc. I make a very, very poor capitalist.

I seriously don't know if I can keep up with Apple at this point. I'm a systems analyst/BI programmer and can barely come up with the money for their products. If they want to price me out of the market I guess I'll go back to Windoze and Android. :(

At that price it won't be $49 more like $69-$79/month.
My $649 iPhone 7 is $32 a month in the iUP program, so I think 50% more at around $49 or so sounds about right for a $1,000 iPhone. Not saying that's a bargain or anything, but I think it would pencil out to around that $49 mentioned.

I think i will continue to use my iPhone 5s. I have given a lot of money to Apple over the years (i started with the Mac Classic) but don't see a need to buy this proposed device that costs 1,000 dollars. Over time, Apple has learned how to produce these products for less money. In most normal businesses the manufactures lower the cost to customers as manufacturing costs decrease. while Apple makes a great product, it does not mean that we need to spend this kind of money for it. I am receiving no benefit from that huge new headquarters, I see no reason to fund its construction.
THERE'S A REASON THEY'RE THE RICHEST COMPANY IN THE WORLD.

The reason why Apple can do this today is because no one, except the handful of suckers who buy unlocked at full retail and think they are beating the system, will see it as $1000. It is $49/mon for 12 months, then trade up and continue.

I buy my phones unlocked and use them on a $30/month plan. The average person is paying closer to $100/month for their subsidized phone plan. How exactly am I being a sucker?

How much will you pay up front though? its not going to be $0 + $49/month. its probably more like $300-$400 + $49/month

So I can get a Galaxy S8 with facial scanning, OLED, wireless charging, and minimum bezels for $300 dollars less and the s8 is selling in record numbers. And most of these features Samsung has last year...

What exactly is the next iPhone bringing to make it worth that much more?

Well, the iPhone 7 128GB is $750 USD and the iPhone 7 Plus 128GB $870 USD.

A potential iPhone "Pro/Edition" 128GB that sits higher than the Plus at $1000 USD isn't really surprising at this point.

iPhones have essentially become the primary computer for most people. At this point I feel like you should be able to buy one, like a computer, and use it for 3-4 years.

For those prices it better include "10-bit" (LiveColor / Wide Color / Vivid Color) "capture & display" ... otherwise, the 7s Plus will be the one In Big Demand in September.

Why don't you people wait and see the next iPhones features, AND declared price tag (rather than ****ing rumors) before being so damn cynical about it?
