Those who are complaining about the price do realise that there is also rumoured to be an iPhone 7s and 7s Plus for those who can't or don't want to pay the price of the iPhone 8? (or whatever they decide to call it) and is probably why they are rumoured to be doing it. It wouldn't surprise me to see Apple do the iPhone 8 as a kind of "iPhone Edition" that's priced higher.

I suspect you are correct and we will something like we have now with the iPad. The standard 7S and 7S+ mainstream model and the "pro" iPhone 8 spendy model.

So I can get a Galaxy S8 with facial scanning, OLED, wireless charging, and minimum bezels for $300 dollars less and the s8 is selling in record numbers. And most of these features Samsung has last year...

What exactly is the next iPhone bringing to make it worth that much more?

We don't really know what Apple is releasing for a physical design this year.

The S8 is a nice device. But the facial recognition is not a compelling feature for me to want to purchase the S8 at all. Wireless charging Has its limitations.

The trade off for me is...Apple's ecosystem, fluidity with iOS, security and Continuous software updates, coupled with their customer service. If Apple makes the appropriate changes to the hardware, everything else Falls into place.

Get ready for the backlash from people sick of Apple pandering to only the wealthy and elite. I myself am buying my first PC this weekend, I can't afford Apple anymore (especially for what they offer now: form > function) and am happy to finally downgrade. I feel we're reaching a tipping point with Apple.
Congrats. The PC I built blows away anything I've ever owned from Apple.

Okay Sheeple... where is the value of a $1k iPhone?

A larger screen and touch sensor in the back.

Maybe "3D" photos.

Is anyone else bothered by the potential pricing ? This is Apple Tax and nothing else.

I paid $969 for the 7 Plus 256GB. I use it for everything, it is my main computing device. It comes out to about $48 per month. I am guessing the $999 phone should be about $52 per month. I spend that on a lot worse than a device I will use / enjoy daily. Screen size, phone size, OLED, wireless charging, fingerprint sensor in the screen, updates to both front and back cameras, speaker improvements, and an updated processor are all selling points for me.

If this is true, it is for the plus model. Or maybe even the plus "edition" model as is being predicted.

Rest assured, the $650 regular model isn't likely to go anywhere.

You're right. The $650 will still be the iPhone 7. Take a look at how they jacked up the prices on the MPB and maintained entry price point by still selling the older model.

Not that much more than the current 7+. I have a standard 7 now which will go to the wife as soon as this comes out. Really looking forward to it. (Not to mention what it may be doing to Apple's stock prices, lol). If I hold just a bit longer I can buy a few dozen of these with just the profit made off the stock!

As if $1000 is that much, my first Nokia GSM which I bought in 1997 was 1300 Dutch Guilders, probably about $1500-$2000 in todays money, it also had internet, although very limited, made a small fortune (with it) on the forex market.
Earned it back in no time.

I have to agree with a previous poster— I don't see the justification for such a high price based on the rumors. Even if the godPhone 8 comes with *everything* rumored, it still doesn't warrant that very premium price IMO. Unless, of course, there's something(s) huuuge about it that we don't know of yet.

I think it makes sense considering they did the same with the Apple Watch. If it has OLED and 3D sensing capabilities that lets users unlock the phone with facial recognition and so on and all the stuff that is so far rumoured it will be the all out model to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, the question is how many people will opt for it over the 7s and 7s Plus, personally if it has all those features I will buy one since I use my iPhone everyday so the value I will get out of it is worth it. It does however need to be a really great phone and I supsect it will be.

These prices are insane. Smartphones should have gotten cheaper since their inception, not more expensive. They shouldn't cost the same as a very powerful desktop PC.

Apple's head is well and truly in the clouds when it comes to pricing. At this point, they're just testing how far their customers will allow them to rip them off.

Apple need to stop being so delusional if they want to stay relevant. Consumers WILL start revolting, as they already are.

So I presume this person doesn't predict Apple will sell many either then? That'll be £1000 in the U.K, about £400 more then the S8.... oh and Samsung are rumoured to be relaunching the Note 7 with fixed battery for around £360 when if it's launched in the UK.
Apple will have a tough sell at that price, even more so as they will not allow it to be discounted.

Apple's pricing is totally whacko for all their products now...it was bad now its insane. I pretty much have always bought Refurb and upgraded components to fit my needs. Ofc this process is over. My 2012 MBP is still trucking along nicely and does my pro work very well, 6S and iPad Air 2 is holding up too. I have been offered countless upgrades but refused as its all good. Overall my ESXi cluster and AWS does the rest.

All i know how painful it is to say to my clients to replace something is 2-3 times the cost of something else. So hence why we are moving back to Dell XPS and HP workstations for many employees. We can flip platforms so easily now Creative Cloud, O365 or Google Suite.

I love supporting Macs in many respects so much easier and at scale maybe cheaper to support than a PC, but the price if products is out of control.

Apparently not as they have predicted large sales numbers. Don't forget those who are on the Apple upgrade programme and those that pay a monthly bill will probably not notice an increase as much as those of us who buy our phones outright. Apple are also rumoured to be releasing a 7s and 7s Plus so those who don't want to pay the higher price tag can get one of those.

So that will make it something like $46 or $47 per month on the iUP...thats not a huge monthly increase over what I am paying now. Likely the iPhone 8 128 GB will be my iPhone purchase this year :)

$999 US would mean the price would likely be 1399 CAD.

Probably have carrier subsidies making it available for 499-699.

that's a very tall order right now for the Canadian market, which is seeing costs of living skyrocket due to dollar disparity.

Going to be a tough sell in many international markets at that price.

Anything less than 64GB is a waste of time as apps continue to be bloated messes done by kids who couldn't write slimmer code if you threatened to pour hot lead up their bum.

16GB user here and it works fine for me. People have different needs.
  • I have 94 applications installed. This is more than I need really; I don't use most of them.
  • With an unlimited data plan everything is streamed (music, podcasts, radio, and video media), not stored. Streaming libraries contain far more than I could ever sync anyway. And frankly I don't really enjoy watching TV/movies on a tiny screen.
  • Photos, videos, and data backups go to the 50GB iCloud for 99c a month. This is far cheaper than bumping up iPhone memory size, it is an off-site backup which protects me from data loss, and it propagates to my iPads and Mac which is super convenient.
I have no idea what anyone would do with 256GB, but I don't declare that it's wasted space. Like I said, we all have different needs.

How do you figure pricing should go down lol? They add more features better hardware, that cost money. that's the problem with consumers we want all these great features, but, we don't want to pay for it. I'm not saying $1000 is fair, i'm also not saying it isn't the phone hasn't been announced yet, so we don't know what they will have. But if it's everything rumored, take my money.

For me it depends on what it can do. If it has truly wireless charging, accurate iris scanning, color accurate OLED display, Touch ID in the display and not on the back, a minimal bezel design with a larger screen in a small form factor, and an improved dual-camera system, then $999 would definitely be worth it. I pay monthly using the iPhone Upgrade Program, and my three-line T-Mobile bill is usually around $50/mo ($100/mo promo, $20/mo Verizon switch discount, $10/mo per line under 2GB of data) vs. $138 at Verizon, so I'm now saving more than enough money to justify getting the nicer model.

For most users, $999 will be too high if it's basically an iPhone 7s with a newer design, uses a charging mat, and has Touch ID on the back. But I still might get it since it will only cost around $10/mo more than my 128GB iPhone 7—unless the Touch ID thing is too annoying.
Yikes, we pay $38 per month per phone for verizon unlimited with taxes/fees. I prefer $30 but need 4 more peeps to join the plan to get there. T mobile has horrible coverage here...
