I would hope people not purchase the devices at that price. It's insane for something that has an annual refresh cycle.

Unfortunately, people will eagerly go into debt or use the various carrier financing (lease / lease to-own / etc) options which will maintain Apple's pricing.

Most people don't upgrade every year lol, just because a new iPhone drops every year, doesn't mean you have to get a new iPhone every year. I do, because i'm blessed to be able to. But with all the improvements being made to this year's device, based on rumors that is lol, apple can have my money. To be honest, if we get everything rumored, I think this may be my last iPhone for a year or two.

SG8 here I come....
So I can get a Galaxy S8 with facial scanning, OLED, wireless charging, and minimum bezels for $300 dollars less and the s8 is selling in record numbers. And most of these features Samsung has last year...

What exactly is the next iPhone bringing to make it worth that much more?

we don't know yet. But i'd pay extra for the fingerprint sensor to be under the display, 3d sensoring tech, and 128gb out of the box.

Just take my money already
Edit:
Actually hold up that a lot, monthly payment would be so high

Get ready for the backlash from people sick of Apple pandering to only the wealthy and elite. I myself am buying my first PC this weekend, I can't afford Apple anymore (especially for what they offer now: form > function) and am happy to finally downgrade. I feel we're reaching a tipping point with Apple.
If you can't afford it then you are making a wise decision. but it's the people who can't afford it and still buy Apple products that have a problem.

How much will you pay up front though? its not going to be $0 + $49/month. its probably more like $300-$400 + $49/month
Nope... nothing up front other than the first iUP payment and sales tax. Here is my invoice.

1. No one is entitled to things.
2. Making products geared toward people who can afford to pay more is kind of the point of business.
3. When exactly was Apple on the cheap end of the PC spectrum...ever? In fact aren't they, in the grand scheme, way more competitive now than they were 25-30 years ago?

.......Retail........Tax..........Total........Monthly

128GB iPhone 7 Plus

.......$869.00......$69.52.......$938.52.....$36.21

128GB iPhone 8

.......$999.00......$79.92.....$1,078.92....$41.63

256GB iPhone 7 Plus

.......$969.00......$77.52.....$1,046.52....$40.38

256GB iPhone 8

.....$1,099.00......$87.92.....$1,186.92...$45.79

Just some quick math. And that's the high end, factoring in 8% tax (which is what I pay). The difference would only be $140 more compared to iPhone 7 Plus of either type. That's very reasonable considering the new tech, features, and design the iPhone 8 will have.

($$$ per month is based on retail price at 24 months, because you have to pay tax up front at the carriers)

With the Apple upgrade program all you pay upfront is the taxes. I pay $35/month for my iPhone 7 128GB and that includes Apple Care. You have the option to trade it in each year if you want. You get enough credit to pay off the remaining balance and then you start over. Or keep it another year and the phone belongs to you.

Those who are complaining about the price do realise that there is also rumoured to be an iPhone 7s and 7s Plus for those who can't or don't want to pay the price of the iPhone 8? (or whatever they decide to call it) and is probably why they are rumoured to be doing it. It wouldn't surprise me to see Apple do the iPhone 8 as a kind of "iPhone Edition" that's priced higher.

Wasn't going to get one prior to this rumor, I don't see a reason based on leaked specs.. and now the prices. Can easily wait 2 to 3 years because software hasn't come close to pushing the hardware in these phones. Just give me a new interface in IOS 11 or at least a ton of new features and I'm happy.
