One of the biggest advantages for Apple is that solid rumors will come out earlier, pre-emping sales of new competing products - including the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

of course it will start sooner than later.

the iphone 7 is just an iphone 6. the tooling was slightly different.

Hopefully earlier production would allow for a greater abundance versus a six month shortage. Unless they are starting production early due to part suppliers having constraint. Perhaps both reasons could be why.

not if they sell it any earlier. but yes your logic that building an inventory could offset a sellout

The 2016 MacBook Pros were announced last October which was the 25 year anniversary of the PowerBook (October 1991).

All the rumours about the iPhone design this year being more radical than a mere S update explain this as a celebration of iPhone's 10 year anniversary.

If the rumours have any credibility then it doesn't seem too outlandish to further suggest the announcement will time exactly with the original iPhone's month of release- June.

Therefore I will optimistically be expecting an announcement at WWDC, with a release by end of July.

As for how this impacts iOS, which tends to get major updates with new iPhones, I have a few ideas.

It could leave a smaller window for beta testing iOS 11. The last couple of iOS have had some interesting additions in point updates which could signal a shift in approach, from impactful major updates to continuous smaller updates through the year. iOS 10.3 contains features discussed at WWDC last year- for example, APFS and additions to SiriKit. So a smaller iOS 11 release with less beta testing could work. They could still discuss forthcoming features at WWDC.

Or, the iPhone could release with 10.4 with iOS 11 following later.

There are many possibilities but announcing and releasing this iPhone closer to the iPhone anniversary date just feels right!

It'll look the same as the 7 (unless we do get a full redesign but I can't see it happening) but will sell even more. And people think iPhone is declining. Funny really.

The Chinese market is a key strategy for Apple, and some reports released recently indicated that this market taken an off year for the iPhone 7 in anticipation for iPhone 2017. I believe if Apple does not deliver or innovate, it will be another year of decline.

Samsung is expecting to introduce another flagship product to its Galaxy S8 line that will bend. Think about it a 5-5.5 inch phone that can unfold and be used as a 10+ inch tablet and auto switch into tablet mode. If this happens, goodbye iPhone for me. What do you think of the named Galaxy S8 Bend.

"that will bend"

They are just copying again.

Apple did that already.

SAMSUNG S8 FLEX

if you really want a name:)

So they're just going to skip the 7s and go straight to 8?

Not sure why Apple just does not adopt the year of release and call it iPhone 2016, iPhone 2017, iPhone 2018, etc. Maybe rethink the whole Plus thing as well. iPhone 11, iPhone 11S, iPhone 99.

Apple did an "unintentional" bend, Samsung is doing an "intentional" bend. ;):D

Samsung S8 FLX, got to sound cool. :)

This is why I'm wishing my life away... waiting 'til September!

If Apple was innovative they would release an iPhone that when unfolded it turns into an iPad. Sickest product to be released. Who am I kidding, that will never happen as we may have better luck them releasing a new dongle.

On june 29, 2017 to be exactly..10 years!

If Samsung releases the rumoured bending/unfolding phone the iPhone will look outdated the day it is announced. This is coming from a long time Apple users 20+ years.

Apple needs to seriously leapfrog the industry and spark some excitement. Apple the company that has #simmereddownnow.

If Samsung replaces the Note line with a Galaxy S8 foldable phone, that will take away from the Apple excitement pretty fast. You can either have a chocolate bar phone or a foldable phone that may turn into a tablet.

I think they are starting earlier as they are putting less into the phone. No headphone jack. Next will be no lightening jack or home button. Following the MacBookPro's design, pretty soon the volume and power buttons will be gone too. You will have a phone that will magically turn on and finally we understand why you need an Apple Watch... to be able to adjust the volume on the new iPhone ;)

I'd really love this next iPhone to be amazing... something really evolutionary.

I suspect i won't buy it - i like the headphone socket, and form factor of my SE - but I want Apple to regain that sense of excitement and leadership.

Apple can embed pressure sensitive buttons in the rim of the phone, they still have the liquid metal license. No buttons will be seen just invisible and pressure sensitive. Boom magic.

I have the feeling it will still be crazy difficult to get your hands on the upcoming iPhone 8 (or whatever they decide to call it). I'm hoping the phone doesn't let down, otherwise I'm going to jump ship to Android!

Waiting for the foldable Samsung phone, I want the future today not an iPhone with a bezel-less display that has already been done by competitors years ago. Apple does the past today, sad considering this companies history.

What if you had a phone the size of the iPhone SE and when its unfolded it is the size of an iPad Mini. Revolutionary product, market will be caught off guard Apple innovates again. Nah that will never happen, this is Apple we are taking about.

I hope that Apple reconsiders its thinness fetish. Make the 8 thicker, for a larger battery, and so that the camera does not protrude. That would truly be like a sheet of glass....

That's not what the leaks indicate.

If it has wireless charging capabilities, Apple may not have a choice other than to increase the thickness.
