I wonder who started the first "10 year anniversary iPhone 8" BS? Tech rumors/sites on the web are all just copying each other. 15 websites parrotting the same thing over and over, copying the same stuff from each other.

There's no credance to the 10th year anniversary being something special, nor that it will be called the 8. There was only one computer that got a 10 year anniversary moniker a long time ago. And it was an odd ball.

If these are truthful "rumors", then let it be known that Apple itself is feeding it to us one morsel at a time.

What is the attraction with curved edges again? It's a curve away from you. I see it on some Samsung screen and I really don't like it. I don't see the point, what is the point, anyone know?

I was gonna be an ass and just say "source"....in place of that I'll just say, isn't every singe design a compromise?
No problem, I thought most people on here were familiar with that regrettable "Marketing over Engineering" compromise, but here is that link.

They've used that 'terraced' tech before in the MacBook and it seems somewhat lamentable that the only reason we didn't get it included in the latest update (after so patiently waiting for new MBPs) is because of marketing deadlines. So un-Apple like.

don't let the door hit ya on the way out

Moving over to Android is something that I've been on the fence about, especially having been using iOS since the original iPhone. iOS has been feeling very stale regardless of the updates in recent years. But anyways, not looking to take away from this thread/post.

Last time I got mad at Apple for releasing the same design a 3rd year in a row and decided to jump ship... I ended up with a phone whose battery explodes and a crappy bloated, messy OS which I hated.... I learned my lesson and will be sticking to whatever Apple releases going forward ;)

Yeah, provided that debacle doesn't repeat itself, I'm looking at either a Note, or the Pixel 2 (when that presumably drops later this year).

Wow that's a gorgeous concept though.
I like the "Touch Bar" at the bottom and a very small bezel.
Also wish Apple would allow a grid realignment that would let us choose if we want our apps in a row or in a honeycomb like the Apple Watch.
Something like this:

If the iPhone 8 is what's rumored the demand will be huge, so then this move makes sense. I don't quite dare to believe yet though... If it's an edge to edge display, I'm instantly selling my iPhone 6s and iPad Air 2 to help finance an iPhone 8 Plus. The screen area would be immense, finally striking the last blow to my poor iPad.

I think if we get an 8 it will be in short supply and cost quite a bit more than the 7s variants.
I agree that if in fact the new iPhone uses OLED it could be more expensive. However, OLED displays for phones aren't really new tech, right? The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge both use OLED and they have been able to keep the cost in line with, or cheaper than the iPhone. . Of course, we will be paying the "Apple Tax" and as such should expect the price to be higher.

I wonder where apple will get these oled panels. Apple needs to have a panel on par with Samsung. Currently LG and Sharp displays are not. Is Samsung capable of producing enough panels to supply an iPhone flagship.

The Chinese market is a key strategy for Apple, and some reports released recently indicated that this market taken an off year for the iPhone 7 in anticipation for iPhone 2017. I believe if Apple does not deliver or innovate, it will be another year of decline.

Samsung is expecting to introduce another flagship product to its Galaxy S8 line that will bend. Think about it a 5-5.5 inch phone that can unfold and be used as a 10+ inch tablet and auto switch into tablet mode. If this happens, goodbye iPhone for me. What do you think of the named Galaxy S8 Bend.
So, like a flip phone... except big? Gonna be real fun reading about stories where people trapped some object between the displays and flipped it closed.

All of these iPhone 8 rumors seem too good to be true. A iPhone 7S this year just seems more likely. I really hope I'm wrong though.

I just have to wonder if there's some truth to them because the iPhone 7, as good as it is, really seems like an iPhone 6SS.

I know there are only so many ways to design a phone, but nothing about the 7 screamed *next generation*

  • iPhone 3G and 3GS brought a major redesign and 3G.
  • iPhone 4/4S had a new design, Retina display, A-chip
  • iPhone 5/5S - first display increase, LTE, Touch ID
  • iPhone 6/6S - larger screens, 3D Touch.
iPhone 7 - faster, better camera, screen quality improvement. Not that those aren't impressive, but there's no signature new feature really. I suppose water resistance, but that seems like an obvious iteration of the design.

The glass back is daft- heavy, thick, scratches over time. Metal much superior.
Why make such a fragile device that then needs a cover?
Go figure.

It's basically a shortcut bar with a few notifications thrown in. I agree, pointless.

I guess more than appeasing customers, having a hundred million phones already in inventory at launch will allow Apple to show a more incredible peak in their sales figures during the Christmas season. The investors will be delighted!

In phone mode it will have a screen on both sides or option two screens meets when closed. When open it will be the size of a tablet or in L shape mode it will have a widescreen on one screen and touch keyboard on the bottom screen. Screen may have a little flex to it to deter from damage or a raised edge on the top or bottom so there is a slight gap. I am sure it will be covered under some warranty "Samsung Care Protection +" :D

I'd wait until version 2 if you are hellbent on jumping ship. Hardware can be sexy but at the end of the day, it is all about the SOFTWARE. I imagine there will be little to no support out the gates due to fragmentation.

if the iPhone 8 is as good as the rumours claim, I will definitely buy one, even though my iPhone 7 works fine.

I really want a phone without physical bezels or home button. I also like glass body and wireless charging. I hope they have it in black or dark blue. This could be the best phone since iPhone 4, which was an amazing piece of machinery. The build quality was amazing, if you disregard the glass which cracked easily.

Because you're like me and wanted a new toy.

But really, I like them. I'm not an audiophile nor claim to be, but for commuting on the train they are perfectly fine. I hope they arrive soon!

It was for a new toy to a degree. I'm a cyclist and I wanted to be able to listen to music quietly on those 100km rides without a cord in the way! And for when I'm doing web work. I'm pretty excited for them to show up.

OLED display supply is limited, i don't think Samsung/LG have the capacity to manufacture enough OLED screens for iPhone.

Sound advice, I usually apply the same logic for Apple products. We will wait and see, it is all about the temptation at this point. Imagine

Prior 2017:

Competitors use tech such as AM/OLED, bezel-less curved display, USB-C, dual-camera, always-on display, wireless charging, 4K resolution, quick charge, 2+GB ram, headphone jack, SD card slot, etc. (if only they would stick to Vanilla Android, however getting better).

Apple has stereo speakers, 1080p LED screen with P3 Wide Colour Gamut screen and ForceTouch, Lightening Port, dual-camera on Plus model only, 2GB ram finally standard, removes headphone jack, please add anything I may be missing (Hats off to the well designed and developed Apple Fusion Processor).

Post 2016:

Competitors use folding displays, AM/OLED Gen-X, bezel-less cured display Gen-2, laser focus, Full 4K resolution, larger battery, quick charge next gen, iris security scan, headphone jack, SD card slot, etc.

Apple rumoured bezel-less display, AM/OLED Gen-?, slightly larger battery, quick charge, Apple Fusion Processor Gen-2, 2GB ram, please add anything else I am missing.

As a tech enthusiast, Apple used to excite me with its technology. I used to look forward to Steve Jobs keynotes. As of the last 3-4 years I have not been excited by any keynote or the technology released. Apple needs to reinvigorate the iPhone, anything released now is just ho-hum its like I have seen better offered a year or more before by its competitors. Apple offers AMOLED, thanks for finally joining the party Apple. Prove your critics wrong Apple, here is your chance to make the iPhone seem less outdated.
