Calling it now: "iPhone X".
I've been telling ^^ to everyone (friends, family, co-workers, etc) who ask me about  info and release dates for well over a year (when I actually realized that 2017 would be the 10th anniversary edition). It just makes sense. If they don't call it that, I'm going to be overwhelmingly disappointed. This is the year to get out of the naming rut and make a badass phone with a badass name to go along with it. I mean, (this is a question to everyone, not just OP) when someone asks you what iPhone you have, don't you just wanna be able to say, "It's an 'X'"?

Oh my, how times have changed. That render reminds me of Galaxy S phone. Remember when MR would constantly post a render of the Apple Watch. It was a nice traditional looking round watch. Everyone here got used to seeing it, but then that nerdy, cheap looking square watch showed up. Lol

Unfortunately iPhone 7 was the 10th iPhone, it doesn't feel quite as neat once you consider that.

If this is true, it means one thing: the margins–at least initially–are going to be meaningfully worse than the current iPhone, beyond what you would normally see for tooling changes. The reason Apple moves production dates well ahead of intros is so that they can use sea freight to deliver the bulk of the shipments, instead of air freight. The cost of a 747 load of merchandise is many multiples of the cost of that shame shipment via the slow boat from China.

Assuming these plans pan out, look for this to be a topic of discussion in the quarterly earnings call in October and January.

Makes sense, the next iPhone will probably be one that celebrates the 10th anniversary, if it is a complete redesign like the rumours have suggested then Apple may need the time to test and then make them, especially if they are expecting huge sales which I think will happen. Also it makes sense since Apple more or less kept the same design for the iPhone 7 (still a great device tho I love the dual lens camera). I'm looking forward to what they announce, I just hope they have enough to pre-order without dates slipping very quickly.

Also if Apple have new components then they will may need more time to trial them, if things like wireless charging are true then this may be the case and or the OLED rumour, yeilds for OLED will probably need to be taken into account as well.

I think we're totally gonna get a 7s and 7s Plus to appease all of those not willing to pay more for the next iPhone/people on iUP. Then we'll get the fabled new 'iPhone 8' or 'iPhone X' or something ridiculously more expensive than the other two, with a new design (though not as radical as people are hyping) with a bunch of new features/materials/colours. Then next year all phones will meet that same design and will get a spec bump.

My issue with this method is fragmentation of the iPhone line up. But I just can't see them redesigning all iPhones this year, it's gotta be a special edition that people have to be willing to fork out significantly for.

Apple love an opportunity to hike prices.

I think if we get an 8 it will be in short supply and cost quite a bit more than the 7s variants. I just don't see where apple gets all of these oled panels for the every mans iPhone

I agree that if in fact the new iPhone uses OLED it could be more expensive. However, OLED displays for phones aren't really new tech, right? The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge both use OLED and they have been able to keep the cost in line with, or cheaper than the iPhone. . Of course, we will be paying the "Apple Tax" and as such should expect the price to be higher.

Hey bros, can you ramp up production on the airpods I ordered 6 weeks ago?

Seriously? You ordered 6 weeks ago and still don't have them? I lucked out and got a pair from Verizon. . .They were happy to sell them to me even though I'm not a customer. In fact, I received them about a week after release.

I should have just picked them up at the store. I forgot why I even ordered them now ;)

Because you're like me and wanted a new toy.

But really, I like them. I'm not an audiophile nor claim to be, but for commuting on the train they are perfectly fine. I hope they arrive soon!

If the iPhone really is an upgrade from the last several, i will finally get my first iPhone since the 3G model. :)

I have the feeling it will still be crazy difficult to get your hands on the upcoming iPhone 8 (or whatever they decide to call it). I'm hoping the phone doesn't let down, otherwise I'm going to jump ship to Android!

Last time I got mad at Apple for releasing the same design a 3rd year in a row and decided to jump ship... I ended up with a phone whose battery explodes and a crappy bloated, messy OS which I hated.... I learned my lesson and will be sticking to whatever Apple releases going forward ;)

So the design is pretty well finalized then? They likely are expecting huge sales numbers and want to ensure adequate supply quantities for the holiday shopping season.

I just hope they didn't make design compromises to meet that goal, like they did with the new MBP's battery that was supposed to be terraced for more capacity, but those plans were shelved at the last moment due to technical reasons.
I was gonna be an ass and just say "source"....in place of that I'll just say, isn't every singe design a compromise?
